Points: 175.43 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 175.43 | Hi. New to board, not new to PCOS. Hi everyone. I'm new to the board! I just wanted to introduce myself and ask a question--I'm not sure yet if this is the right place for this question, so please bear with me!
I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2002, after 2 years of fighting with doctors. A fantastic nurse practitioner finally took one look at me and said "you have PCOS!"
So my PCOS was very well controlled with metformin, diet, and exercise for about 3 years. I've kind of got a weird version of PCOS--mostly insulin resistance, all the weight gain, but no cysts in my ovaries, no acne, no hirsutism.
However, I'd been feeling really bad and gaining weight rapidly over the last year or so--and experiencing menopause-type symptoms. I found a new endo and got the full work up--again, no ovarian cysts, and they ruled out sleep apnea and Cushing's disease, but discovered I was hypothyroid. I've been put on levothyroxine. I don't feel any better, but it's only been about 6 weeks on the thyroid meds. Here's my question: in my last labs, my thyroid was normal, but my testosterone has shot up dramatically. The endo said she doesn't want to do anything about it yet, just wait for my next appt. in July, when she'll draw blood again.
Any idea what's going on, if this will even out, what kind of questions to ask next time I see the doc? I still feel bad and sluggish and can't lose weight to save my life, despite all my best efforts.
Thank you, and I look forward to "meeting" y'all!
