Cool HI New Cyster, been lurking....

HI I was diagnosed with PCOS a couple of weeks ago though I now feel I have had this since I started menstrating at the age of 10. I have always had irregular menses and most doctors just wanted to put me on the pill and send me on my way even before I was sexually active. I knew deep inside something more was wrong but didn't know what. I was never regular unless I was on the pill and had been known to skip several months in between.

Well fortunatly I found a doctor that would listen to me. I went in because I has a couple of months of very heavy periods with heavy clotting that lasted 10-15days. He did an ultrasound and found my "ring of pearls".

He talked to me for a bit about what has been going on with me and said he felt certain this is what I was dealing with but had to get some labs done first. So I went in a couple of days later to get the blood work done. He called a couple of days later and said that he was now postive. I feel he is a great doctor.

I was doing some researching on the web (by the doctors advise!) and found this board. I am so glad I did! I was scared at first but after reading so much on here I feel so much better. I am also glad to finally know what is wrong with me and that I can finally get better. I never realized how much of this other stuff I have been dealing with had anything to do with one another.

I wanted to share the results of my test and see if anyone can help me disifer them?

LH 8.0 mIU/mL
FSH 5.1 mIU/mL
Testosterone, Serum 78H ng/dl
Free Testosterone(Direct) 2.5H pg/mL
TSH 1.957 uIU/Ml
DHEA Sulfate 42L ug/dl
17-OH Progestrone 79 ng/dL
Glucose, Plasma 80 mg/dL
Insulin, Fasting 11.9 uIU/mL
Prolactin 7.3 ng/mL

What does all of this mean? Can anyone help me with that?

All test were done fasting. Thanks!

Hello and welcome to SC! I think everyone on this board experienced the "relief" as well as sadness in finally being dx'd with PCOS. It sounds like you have found yourself a PCOS friendly doc and that he'll be getting you started on the right track - kudos to him for that! You didn't mention if he has started you on any meds as of yet?

Sorry I can't be of any assistance with the test results - hang in there tho, I know some of the Veteran Cysters will be glad to help ya with them!

I wish you the very best of luck and I look forward to reading more of your posts!

Again welcome and Keep posting!

I'm sorry I didn't mention the meds, I did me to, lol. I will starting the vaginal ring and starting with 500mg of metformin. He said he would be starting me low then working me up on that to help with the side effects. After what I have read of the side effects of metformin I am glad of that. I will actually be filling my prescriptions today and go back in 8 weeks for a check up.
Thanks for your responses!
