Smile Hi new here

I was told I had pcos about 4 years ago, after years of Oh its just willl power to lose weight there is nothging wrong with you kind of thing no matter that even after one semster of singles tennis, slimastics, some weight training, lots of walking, general gym work and watching what i ate and not losing any weight. the Major hair problem since I was 14, and the general doctor said there was nothing was wrong with me. Then I found out by accident about PCOS. I went to a gyn and was told. After much discussion I found out that I had pcos way back in 5th grade when and let me tell you this story. I was wearing a small size bra and it was friday the day of field day at school and the strap broke and of course it being the last day of the week my others were not clean so my mother being very small up top said I would just wear one of hers and we would pin it to fit. Well we got a surprise her bra fit me to well without the pins. And of course the next month I started my period and one day at school the other girls in gym locker room were pointing at me because I had hair down there when they didn't, so I started growing hair, having my period etc early. my mom thought it was just early pubety at the time so wasn't worried until the hair problem starting showing up on my face so that I had to start shaving some not much as I do now. so it turns out I had pcos back th en.
From the time I graduated from high school and from college I went from a size 16 to 24 w and now I wear a size 26-28w depending on what it is. no matter what i do losing the weight is hard. I realize that this story is similar to lots of others but I didn't know of any other way to introduce myself. I have been looking into curves the gym, for at least reducing stress. is there a diet out there that works and doesnot cost a ton of money to do also. I have the problem of losing my head hair also to the point now that I can color it or have a perm put inl. I used to do perms. Now its so fine that I have to have it cut short to be able to do any styling with it at all. any suggestions or advise would be nice. Thank you.

PS. Does anyone else with PCOS stay tired all the time even with 8 hours of sleep or also where they can't sleep.

Hi, welcome to Soulcysters. Yes, your story indeed sounds like many others here around the boards, but that`s what`s so great about this place - to know you´re not alone.

As far as dieting goes, have you tried going low-carb? I have changed my way of eating to lc, and I`ve lost a bit of weight. Could be more if I was more consistent. But it's certainly worth a shot.

I was also wondering if you have been tested for hypothyroidism and insulin resistence?

Have a look around the different forums. Lots to learn, lots of cysters to meet. Welcome again.

Welcome to SC! I'm on a modified low-carb diet and it's working for me, but I still feel tired all the time, even with the weight loss and healthy eating.

crystalkenobi -

I too have extreme fatigue, even with an arsenal of vitmans and a health nut forever, and I suffer from extreme insomnia, I mean I don't fall asleep for days at a time sometimes, im up alllll night till about 6 sleep for 2 horus wake up and not tired anymore...like right now, its 5:53 am here in NJ, i was diagnosed with pcos about a week ago...on the 13th, apparently i've had it since i was 13, and never told about it...but as for a diet, ive been on the south beach for 5 days now, and i think its working, ive actually lost some weight (i was always thinnnnnn gained weight very fast without overeating or anything in like 3 months....)...I would try it, buy the book and follow it precisely, the meals are yummy too!

but i wonder if my LIFE LONG insomnia is from PCOS?

Thank you for the warm welcome. Yes I've been tested for all the various stuff and the all come back saying i'm fine. I go to my gyn on the 28th of this month for my annual stuff so it could be different then. My being tired and not sleeping well only started about a year and half ago. I've been reading this book which I will have to remember to write down the name of it and bring it in to work to post tommorrow, but it was saying that being tired all the time they have been finding to be part of it also. Also the sudden development of allerieges also. Thats something else that started about 4 years ago. I can't wear perfumes, can't have my nice smelling candles around me anymore either I also started with the migranes about 5 years ago when I only had servere headaches in the past. this book was saying that simple things around you can cause you to feel tired or depressed such as if you room is a clutter.

I've tried the south beach thing, but for financial reasons its hard to follow because having rice, noodles, bread and potatoes is what helps stretch the budget if you understand what I mean. I can make sphagetti and have 4 meals out of that verses only stuff that makes one meal. I have been trying to cut back on portions and no caffine and no cokes. just plain water. not easy especially around tax season. But I will look more into trying to cut back on carbs as much as I can.

Have you looked into the IR diet. You can eat about anything as long as it is balanced with a protein and has the correct portion of carbs. You mentioned a lot of carbs that you eat and that can put you on a rollercoaster with your insulin levels which can make you tired with high and low sugar levels. I was very tired and had a hard time sleeping. I found out from a saliva test that my progesterone levels were extremely low. I was almost in menopause at 35. I started natural progesterone cream and actually have more energy.

If you could afford it I would suggest getting a full workup.
