Hi my name is Heather. Im 27 years old. I was diagnosed with pcos in Nov. of 2007. I was prescribed Metformin. That seems to be working okay, except I havent got pregnant. I did lose about 30 lbs after being on it for year. Im still about 35 lbs over weight. Ive ttc for about 5 years now. Actively trying for about 3 years. I had a daughter who was stillborn back in May of 2002 from a previous relationship. Me my current SO have been together for almost 6 years now. Just hoping that my time is coming soon. Looking foward to getting to know people and if you have any questions about just ask.
Hi Heather! I'm new here as well. I will be starting my Metformin as soon as I get my blood tests back, so that'll be sometime this month. My husband and I have been TTC for almost/about three years as well, and we haven't gotten pregnant yet either. Matter of fact, that was exactly why I went to the doc about this stuff. And that's what started me on this journey. I hope all is well and I look forward to getting to know you. Have a great evening! - Ashley

Welcome to Soul Cysters. What dose of Met are you on? I couldn't conceive until I got up to 2000mg of met. Some cysters need the met/clomid duo and others need different methods in order to get pregnant. Just wanted to let you know that sometimes its a matter of dose. At 1500mg of met I got my periods back regularly and lost weight- 2000mg- I stopped loosing the weight but gained a baby, I think its a fair trade.

Well thats good to know about the dosage. Cuz im only taking 1000 mg a day. I think Im going to tell my doc that i want the dosage to go up. My periods took a while to get back to normal but I did lose weight pretty fast. I have to admit Im not the best at taking pills so on occasion, quite often, I forget them. But My cycles the past few months have been 29 or 30 days. And I did O two cycles ago. But now Im on CD33 and nothing so thats kinda weird. SInce Ive been on the Met. I really dont think Im ovulating. Do you think if they up the dosage I might start O'ing normally?
I was diagnosed with PCOS on 12/10/08 and i am still confused about it all. I'm 25yrs old, and me and my husband have been ttc for two years (What fun though!ol). We have three boys already from prior relationships one of which is biologically mine and two his. I've never really had regular periods or a real sense of when i ovulate and then one day the periods just stopped. No I'm more confused then ever, will it come back? I have a real go go go life, between 3 small children and a 50hr work week(I know, " how are you gonna have another baby?") and in the past year my weight just skyrocketed from 150lbs to 200lbs and im only 5'4, OMG! I only went to the doctor to find out why I have'nt had my period for 6 months, and then the news. So I'm taking metformin but other then my weight and the cysts on my ovaries I have not yet had any other symptoms I just wanted some help to figure this out
Hi Heather! I was just diagnosed last week myself and am still adjusting to the idea of having PCOS. I'm waiting for AF to begin my Met. I'm glad to hear that you've had weight loss success with it, as that is a major benefit I'm looking forward to.
We've been TTC for 12 months now and I can definitely say this experience has changed my life. And for the better!
3 rounds Clomid - Sept-Nov '08 - no response
1st RE appt - 12/29 - PCOS Dx
Started 500 mg Met XR Jan '09 and worked my way up to 2000 mg after 4 months of trying - bad GI issues
HSG Feb '09 - good results
Horomone panel Aug '09 - high DHEAS level 390 - prescribed Dex
Starting Dex next cycle
Letrazole w/ Ovidrel cycle after that???
Currently waiting on flow - silly body!
Oh yeah - how prescribed the Met? OBGYN or RE? If you're not seeing an RE yet I would definitely recommend it. They should be able to come up with a proactive gameplan based on the fact you've been trying so long.

It actually wasnt either. I have just a family practitioner. But shes the best. I wish she could be both my OB and RE. All I have to do is ask her to refer me to a RE and Ill be good to go. I just really like her and Im so comfortable with her. She knows about my TTC struggle and the PCOS. Shes tryin to help with as much as she can. So when Im ready to leave her I will. I just started going to her about a year ago. I wish I had found her sooner. Anyway, best of luck to you. The met should most def help with the weight. I really wasnt expecting that. Take care!
