Hi I have just found this website and am very glad! I haven't actually been diagnised yet with PCOS but have had a scan showing multicystic ovaries and blood tests done which show hormonal abnormalities. I wondered if anyone knows of decent doctor in London, I have an appointment with an NHS gyno next week but I suspect he won't be any good. I would rather not pay obviously but if I have to I will! thanks for any advice in advance, nicola
Welcome to soul cysters, I'm sure you'll love it here
Sorry, I don't live in London, so I don't know of any London Dr, but I'm sure someone will be able to help.

Hi Nicola
Welcome to Soulcysters. Glad you found us. I know lots of cysters have had bad experiences with the NHS but I saw a wonderful doctor yesterday who spent time with me and talked through everything (He's in Edinburgh, so no use to you, sorry). You never know you may be lucky too. Take with you as much info about your condition as possible - dates of menstrual cycle (if any), symptoms of pcos, any tests you've had done and that will start your discussion. Also a list of questions so you don't forget what you want to ask.
Good Luck
Love

How about getting as much info in the meantime about treatments etc and being prepared for the Gyne, sure you will get help here!!

Hi , thanks for the replies! I don't know what TTC means, so I don't know if I am or not! I would like more info on the london bridge endo if thats ok.
TTC means Trying To Concieve (clever heh?)
As for the london doctors I do not know of any to speak of, except that St Mary's hospital is suppose to be good.
There is a documentary on Miscarriage on Channel 4 at 9.00 on this thursday. That might help ya!
Email me of you wanna talk!

But there are lots of places in London that do this. You could try looking in the phone book. Wait untill you have had as many tests done on the nhs as possible as the cost heaps private.
I am registered with Hammersmith Hospital, who if you are TTC are very good ! They have a very good clinic. My Friend is with St Marys and she finds them very helpful.
Hi everyone, thanks for all your help, I am not TTC yet, maybe in a few years, but am concerned I will not be able to, thats why I want to get the treatment started now!
I have had testerone, oestradiol, prolactin, glucose, LH, FSH and SHBG tested, what other tests do you think I need in order to help me on my way with treatment and the road to fertility?
I am seeing a Dr Moran in Primrose St tomorrow, has anyone heard of him?
I'm actually an Australian living in Japan and married to a English guy, and this is why I have a bit of experience with the London RE scene. Well not much, but enough to feel like I'm receiving proper care, and as you all know, that is a major part of the battle these days.
I too, when in London go to the Hammersmith Hospital (Lisa Sainsbury Wing). I see a guy there called Mr. Trew who definitely knows his business. He advised me that what my doc in Japan was doing was utter garbage (gee what a surprise), and since I can't be in London too often these days, put me in touch with his mate in Sydney, who happens to be the clinical director of SIVF (the best one in the country), and this guy is brilliant too.
In two years when I return to London, I'll definitely be going back to Mr. Trew. Anyway, following are some details I just pulled for him off an Imperial College data base - they're probably not right for appointments and so forth, but a secretary might be able to point you inthe right direction.
Sorry this has been so long

I'm english living in Oz, my doctor in London was Mr Thonet at parkside hospital in Wimbledon. he is lovely, he diagnosed PCOS really quickly then removed an ovarian cyst and did ovarian drilling while he was "in there"
He does NHS work too, might be worth seeing if you can get a rererral if you are in south london.

If you want a good Dr - do NOT go to St Mary's - well at least not to see Prof. Stephen Franks - he was dreadful - he may just have been having a bad day but he made me feel even worse about myself. If Shira is around she will tell you a really great doc to see, I think she went through 8 or 9 to find this one !!

thanks everyone for your help, I went to see Dr Moran in Primrose St, who was very good but I also saw an NHS gyno this week and he was very good as well, confirming the diagnosis of PCOS and putting me on Metformin. he couldn't get me out of there fast enough though, I suppose they have no time! I think I might be having a bit of trouble with metformin though, keep getting severe pain in my chest, where you usually get heart burn. don't know if this is related or not!!
