Hiya! I'm Jamie, a 21-year old college student from Michigan. I was just diagnosised with PCOS this month, after my GP DR blew me off for about a year now. I've gained about 60bls in the past 6 months and have really bad acne on my face and arms. I was under the impression that i had nothing to worry about she put me on Moxyprogestin for the first 10 days of NOV and DEC and after that going on birthcontroll would take care of everything "no problems"-from what she said. Now that I understand PCOS i'm starting to get worried. The weight wont stop, I gain about 2bls a week no matter WHAT I do, i don't even want to leave the house or even DTD anymore which is hurting our relationship. This is now starting to effort my work too, I work in a male dominated profession and it's hard enough to get respect as it is, now I have this weight, acne, and horrible moodswings... I'm so confused and hurt that my GP DR didn't fill me in more. I go back in JAN to talk to her and get the birth control pills, but i have so many questions that I don't have answers to yet. My main one is Pregnancy, we really aren't ready yet but I was told by some people at work here that if i don't do it soon there is a greater chance of it not happening down the road. We are getting married in sept. I have one more semester of college and he has about a year and 1/2 left. This couldn't have came at a worse time. Atleast I found this site, I don't feel so alone anymore. Thanks for being there!
~Jamie~
Welcome! This is a great place to be!
For weight-- first of all, your DF probably doesn't mind that you've gained some extra pounds, but there are plenty of tips on the Diet and Exercise forum here to help you get healthy. The biggest tip is that low fat is not the way for us to go-- low carb or complex carb is much better. There are plenty of diets and eating lifestyles to choose from. I preferred slowly easing into a complex carbohydrate lifestyle by swapping out all of the refined carbohydrates in the house with complex ones, so normal pasta swapped with whole wheat pasta, white rice with brown rice, white bread with whole wheat bread, and so on. Also upped fruits and veggies intake and started trying new whole grains like quinoa. There are plenty of other diets to explore here, from weight watchers to south beach to IR to GI and more. Poke around to see if there's one that works for you and join their thread! Also, I didn't start losing weight until I started taking apple cider vinegar shots before meals (two tablespoons of organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar)-- check out the vinegar and IR thread in the diet section.
You're still very young and ttc can be a long road... don't worry about pushing for it in the next 6 months (or until you're ready)-- focus on getting healthy so that when you do ttc your body is in good shape for it. Some cysters conceive very easily but some take a little longer and/or need medical assistance. It is by no means impossible-- check out all of the women on the pregnancy and mother boards.
If you need to get something off your chest, there's the rant forum, if you're feeling really down, there's a depression board... basically anything you need or any questions you have there's someone here to help.
Welcome again! I know SC has made me feel a lot better about myself and has definitely helped me get healthier too. I hope you have a great time here too!
Thanks you two! I called to switch DR's this morning so I can get a fresh start on this and take care of it. I'm starting a diet plan that I found that sounds like my type (even though diets are really hard for me with my liftstyle), went out and got that "Bye Bye Blemish" cream from walgreens that was brought up on the acne forum. I'm feel better already and i haven't even started really treating or coping with this yet but having the knowledge I gained reading all the threads has helped me alot!
