Default Hi. Sorta newbie here

Hi. I used to read a lot but I was kinda forced to take a break from ttc while I waited for an op (don't you love the NHS?) and stopped reading or anything for a while. Anyway, I'm back now and thought I'd introduce myself.

I live in Croydon and was diagnosed in 1998. We've been ttc #1 for a few years now. My symptoms are fairly under control, except the weight and the periods/ovualtion (both are lacking). I've been on met since April and recently increased the dose to 1500 mg/day. I've been doing weight watchers online off and on since then and have lost about 20 lbs, with another 40 to go.

I'd like the chance to talk to some fellow PCOSers in the UK. It kinda depresses me sometimes to hear how quickly the US girls get treated compared to us. Has anyone else had problems with the NHS, or is it just me?

Hiya! I live in the UK again now but was diagnosed while living over seas and had fertility treatment resulting in my beautiful son whilst still out there. I now want to have another baby and so went to see a GP a few days ago and she agreed to refer me straight away as I was having no periods so she said messing around with progesterone and clomid was prob useless. Just have to wait and see how long it takes to see a consultant now I guess. Good luck with your treatment. Caroline

Hi, Bob. Isn't this place great? You learn so much from other people and if you want, you can just rant away to your heart's content! Seems I have been doing that quite a lot lately, mostly born out of frustration. I agree with you completely about the NHS. Maybe other parts of the country fare better than we do here in Cornwall, but it has been a long uphill struggle to achieve anything here.

I waited 7 1/2 months for my first gynae appointment, was told if only I lost some weight, I'd be fine. Being IR, that's a problem, was told that at my age (48) menopause can't be too far away and everything will sort itself out then anyway, so there's no point putting me on Met.

I've just had a letter from the hospital with a follow up appointment to check on my test results (bloods and endometrial samples). That's at the end of May! I told my G.p. I wasn't happy and would like to see an endo; she said there's no point, as they don't know anything about PCOS, they only deal with hormones! Such is the knowledge at G.P. level.

Anyway, as usual, I seem to have pottered on for an age, just wanted to say hello and hope things go well for you in 2005.

Thanks for the welcome. I really like this site, even though sometimes I wish there were more UK orientated info. At least in this part I can complain about the NHS and people understand.
