I too have very unwanted shadows on my face. I have been shaving my face since I can remember. I've tried cheap razors, but I still had the unwanted bumps. So, one day my hubby was at work, and I seen his electric razor on the counter, and I said what the heck? I too, was willing to try anything, so I tried it. I was really smooth!!! The only bad part, is that when you get home from all day at work (say midnight) the bumps are back. But it does get you very smooth! Hope this helps anyone, because it really has helped me!

Like you, I'm a firm believer in men's-type electric razors. I've tried other means of shaving, but easily the best have been men's-type Norelco rotary-head razors. I first started using them at about 13 when I "borrowed" my father's Norelco to shave off my moustache and I've found they do a marvellous job on the face. Nowadays, at 54, I have to shave my moustache and beard area every day. If I shave in the morning I'm OK till about 10pm, but if we're going out at night I'll shave again in the late afternoon or early evening.

I'm a great enthusiast for the Philips Norelco razors for shaving my face. They're not much use for shaving other areas, but for me they've certainly taken all the worry out of having male-type moustache and beard growth. If I shave in the morning then no-one through the day has any reason to suspect that I've got any facial hair. And it takes only seconds to shave, with no side-effects at all.

I have been using Nair made for facial hair. I use it every other day and it seems to do the trick. I hate having to deal with the hair!! They say to use a warm compress on your skin first before shaving or shave after a hot shower...it softens the hair.

i can totally relate to this conversation. my problem also includes hair on my legs that is so course and ingrown that even RIGHT after I shave it looks like I haven't shaved for a week or something. ingrown hair and my legs are STILL scratchy...i HATE it...I can't wear skirts or even reveal my legs. On the very special occasion that my man gets to feel on my legs I have to shave like 2 times and then dowse myself in this really creamy lotion that magically makes my skin feel silky. It's awful though....I hate always worrying that a part of my legs or ankles will show...and my poor man...he must be craving some smooth legs to put his hands on....he mostly just gets stubble from me

oh i can relate to any attempt to try and cover up facial hair! years ago when i first had to start shaving my face i remember using that spray cover up stuff for your legs and it worked ok. now i use a foundation stick by max factor and mousse foundation over top of that and i doesn't really look like a lot of caked on makeup. i wish i could afford lhr i found a place that is $80 a session but right now i have more important bills
i went to school for skincare to do facials and makeup and stuff and i can't do it bc i am so embarrassed about my own face and the facial hair. i feel like it is so noticable. my friends and fam say they can't even tell but i feel like they are just saying that. its funny though the other night at work (walmart) this guy came in looking for something for his wife like a lightning cream or something so i was asking him what it was for and he said his wife was shaving her face and it was making it very irritated and he didn't want her to do that. so we picked out some products for her and before he left he told me i was very helpful and that i had beautiful skin. i wanted to tell him i had the same issues as his wife but i didn't. he was a complete stranger that wasn't (i don't think) able to tell that i had tried to cover up my own facial hair. it was interesting and actually made me feel a little better about myself.

Hiding the effects of plucking and shaving is my biggest problem, too. I have so much hair that I can never get rid of it completely, no matter what I do. As I'm getting closer to menopause ( I'm 47) the hair is getting worse and worse. When I was younger, I managed to keep it under control just by plucking 15-20 minutes a day, but now I pluck sometimes for more than an hour and after that I shave, trying to get rid of as much hair as possible. It isn't perhaps the best option but I really don't know what to do. I wonder if an electric razor would do a better job than plucking and using a wet razor. I don't know how to get a smooth, close shave without obvious black dots and a bumpy appearance of my skin. I've tried exfoliating as well but it doesn't help.
Some advice could be helpful.

What works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another, but I've found great success with the men's range of Philips Norelco rotary-head razors. From my early teens I've been shaving my moustache (started off at 13 by "borrowing" my father's Norelco after school and before he came home from work) and progressed to shaving every day at 15. My beard growth started to come in when I reached about 40, but I just extended the area I shaved. Shaving takes me only a couple of minutes in the morning and though I've a very sensitive skin, the Philips Norelco doesn't irritate me at all. I've tried other electric razors like Braun and Remington, but always come back to the Philips Norelco models. I've now reached menopause (about three years ago) and I would reckon that my beard growth is probably about 90% of what a typical male would have, but once I've shaved in the morning there's nothing visible, my skin isn't irritated and I'm generally OK as far as what anyone else would notice right up till about 9pm. If I'm going to be out later than about 8pm I'll normally shave again before going out.

It's nice to hear that I am not the only one with this problem. I have not even told my boyfriend but I am sure he notices the hair. I have been shaving since I was a teenager and it seems to have gotten darker as I have gotten older. We are also trying to have a baby with no luck. I have taken 200mg of Clomid with no luck. PCOS is very frustrating.

I have to shave my "beard" everyday...I try to skip a day whenever possible to avoid the razor burn and bumps and such, but usually by the evening of day two I feel so gross that I have to go take care of it...I like the idea of the electric razor, and may just try using my bf's tonight and see how it goes!

I find a men's-type electric razor great -- though remember that your skin may take weeks to get used to a different form of shaving. I also think it's very special when DH and I are away from home to be able to share his electric razor on occasion -- I'm sure you'll find it special to be able to share with your BF -- a little bit of sharing that most couples don't have. We've both got sensitive skin and find that the Philips Norelco rotary-head razors are non-irritant. And we also refer to my moustache and beard by these names -- after all, I have as much growth as many males do and shave at least once every day.

I'm not sure what my bf would think if he saw me shaving with a man's electric razor. LOL I can see it now. I haven't even told him I do that. I am sure he knows but doesnt say anything.

I have a home kit and a work kit. I have a disposable razor in my work kit and some replacement makeup.

It drives me crazy. I can never just get up shower and go. I always have to put on make up or I feel like people are staring at my chin and neck.

I don't reckon that it makes much sense either to try to hide beard growth from boyfriends or to keep them away from the bristly areas -- they'll soon figure it out. I don't think it's the beard growth that upsets most boyfriends, but the fact that they're kept away from the person they want to be close to. Most of them will accept the beard without much problem, if any, but none of them like to be kept at a distance -- they take it as rejection of themselves.

I agree with Joy, your BF or hubby will probably figure it out sooner or later.. before I started out on the transition path i often had discussions with guys online about shaving etc.. and beard growth and none of them were grossed out by the fact they were talking to a female who had to shave... they were only too glad to offer advice on shaving...

I use a Gillette Fusion razor for when I bother shaving, the one with the battery in, and I find the 5 blades give me a nice clean shave, the other razor I use which I leave at my GF's place is the Quattro with 4 blades and that does a good job too. When I shave I always make sure I wash my face with warm water and a facial wash, then I shave and put a hot face cloth on my face afterwards and then moisturise my face with a non greasy moisturiser.. since doing that I have never had a problem with redness or bumps... If using electric get a good one, I have tried the rotary ones before but they just shredded my face, but each to their own.. the best one I had was a Remington sensitive electric razor.. I prefer to wet shave personally. I have been shaving since I was 14.
