Default hidradenitis suppurativa

I did a search and found this:

http://www.capederm.com/info_hidrade...uppurativa.htm

It says to wash with anti-bacterial soap and use topical antibiotics. I recently started using Tea Tree Oil on all my skin problems and it works great and Wal-Mart just started selling it. It's something to try at least.

Sounds like it to me too. You can also try hot packs to try and bring it to the surface and drain. If it becomes too uncomfortable or lasts a long time, see your doctor. I do not recommend long term antibiotics because they have their own set of problems and generally don't cure HS.But your doctor can do an I+D (incision and drainage), or inject steroids into the cyst to shrink it.Bot options are painful, but very affective and maybe you can avoid it getting worse. for more info about how to cope day to day, there is a Yahoo club listed in the cyster sites that has a wealth of information about what people have tried. Hope this helps. Email me for more info.

Ok, I've been reading up on this now and I think this is what I have. My doctor told me I had a staph infection and she prescribed Bactroban for it. These are very painful and I have scars on my upper thighs and my armpits. I'll have to tell my doc this is what it must be.

Since I've been reading up, the best treatment is wash with antibacterial soap. I am washing with Clearasil Daily Face Wash that contains Triclosan. The websites I have read say to apply benzoyal peroxide to the area. I am going to apply my Persa Gel instead of the Bactroban and see what happens. If I don't see an improvement with that then I might try applying Retinol.

Hope this helps.

I have had these boils as well, and have been told different things by different doctors.

The doctor I am seeing now, says that they are staph infections, he has prescribed oral and topical antibiotics for them.

I have not been getting them as much since my blood glucose and insulin levels are under control, but anything to tip the balance triggers a breakout of them.

I had a bad sinus infection, and my blood sugar shot up for a couple weeks until I got over it. As a result, I developed a few of those nasty boils.

I get them anywhere there is a lot of fatty tissue on my body. Groin, thighs, buttocks, hips, upper arms, sides of breasts, sides of abdomen, under belly apron, pubic area, etc....

Never on my back, chest, lower arms and legs.

They are big reddish purple boil like things that do one of two things. They flare up, cause a lot of pain if in a place that gets friction or pressure, and start to go away on their own, leaving a purple round bruise. OR, they spontaneously rupture and drain this really nasty sticky dark blood occasionally with pus mixed in, but usually thick dark nasty blood.

If they rupture, they take forever to heal and leave a major scar. Sometimes they leave a crater behind that really concerns me as I am diabetic and infection could be catastrophic.

I'm dealing with two that are almost healed right now. One on the top of my upper thigh, right at the edge of where my stomach rests when I sit. The other is in the crease under my stomach apron. The stomach one has given me the most worry and problems. It was very very bad, and has taken probably a month to finally finish up healing. The thigh one came up quickly and is healing quickly.

Eventually over a long period of time, the scars generally fade, in the worst cases, leaving a small pockmark or faint purplish bruise mark.

What are they? Are they Hidradinitis, or are they a staph infection? Can they be both? I have been told that hidradinitis sores have pus in them, these are filled with blood.

It's always puzzled me, in the past doctors said that they were from poor hygiene habits and had me use all manner of antibacterial washes like Hibaclens. Recently I am told that they are related to insulin resistance.

They're not as worrisome as they once were, but I am still very puzzled as to exactly what they are, why they are filled with blood, and what exactly I can do to keep them in check besides from maintining a good insulin/glucose level.

I have this same problem. I hate them so much. Mine do the same thing.... leave either a purple scar or a crater.... and they are located on the inside of my thighs and under my arms.

My doctor said it was just a skin inflamation. I was prescribed some sort of steroid cream but I'm a little scared to use it because she said if it came back worse then we would know that that wouldn't do the trick and I would have to go to the dermitologist.... COME BACK WORSE? I don't know if I should chance it.

If you guys know of anything that helps with these... please share!!

Hi Ladies,

I have been getting these "boils" or cysts for years, since I was a teen. I finally found out that mine, which almost always occur in my groin area or under my arms are always staph. My doctor said that I am a staph carrier and that is why I get them. I had no idea it could be related to PCOS. Anyway, I have finnal found that the best way to deal with them is to use Bactroban cream at the FIRST sign of one developing. Also, although it is hard not to, picking at them only makes them worse...unless they need to be drained because they are Really bad, and then I go see the doc to have him take care of it. They offered me long term anti biotics for them but with no guarantee that they would work so I turned those down. They are terrible, but I guess I just have to live with them...I had no idea others had this problem!

Default Sounds familiar...

I sometimes get these little places (nowhere near gumball sized) on my genital area. I thought maybe they were just like a different form of acne but this sounds kind of serious. Can someone explain in plain english what hidradenitis supporativa is?

Okay, this is totally a new term to me: hidradenitis supporativa, but it sounds like the "things" I get from time to time up high on my inner thigs, and once under my left arm. They only happen maybe once or twice a year, so I guess I am lucky, and they always go away on their own in 1-2 weeks...but man they HURT! MY QUESTION: is this hidradenitis supporativa related to PCOS??

Cool. I'm not the only one who gets these blood filled things. I generally wipe them with alcohol and prick them with a steril pin if they are painful. Otherwise, I let them go. My body reabsorbs them eventually, though they do take longer than most things to heal. I get them on my legs and stomach too. They are a pain, but not horrible.

when i first made this post, someone suggested that tea tree oil helps so i went out and got some that day. it was much better a day later and almost normal two days later. now i wash every day with tea tree oil soap and use a little tea tree antiseptic if i feel like ones about to appear.

I get these in my groin area, I have one in the same place that flares up once or twice a year(when it flares up it's like gumball or larger size blister like, very painful, and inbetween it's painless, but I can feel it like a pea under the skin). When it flares up I just soak in hot bath several times a day until it comes to a head and drains on its own, and wash with tea tree oil body wash. Mine are definatly hormonal, they only come around AF-and they are much worse when I have taken Provera(I had the one come up off and on for years, but it wasn't until I took Provera that I got another one, about 2 inches from the original) I have been told many different things by different Dr.s, and although I've never been officially diagnosed, after talking to many who have HS, I do believe that is what mine are. And MANY PCOS'ers have HS-I think it is related, and hormonal.

Default Hidradenitis Supporativa - Boils - Years

Hi Everyone,

I have been getting these things for years, ever since I was in my early teens. My doctor used to tell me about the anti bacterial soap as well. Even though I was practicing good hygiene they always seemed to come back. I have found in my experience with them that the more my weight goes up and down or if my hormones go crazy than they flare up. Our family are staph carriers; diabieties; pcos in the family too.

In the past, I have used a stiz bath when they have flared up and have popped. They can be painful in the groin I find.

Default I feel you

I was getting thos constantly, so bad at times I had to call into work because I just couldn't move at all. After I started taking metformin I noticed they dramatically reduced. They do surface once in a while now but rather then progressing I notice they go away in a day or so. Anyone know any treatment for the scars? Mine are horrible.
