Glad to know I'm not alone. I'd consider my situation mild to medium - not as severe as some of the pics I've seen out there. I don't get anything under my armpits anymore - just the genitals, upper thighs and the "taint" area.
What kind of Doc should I go see to get an official diagnosis and potentially get some medicines to start treating it? A dermatologist, GYN, or an endo doc?
I was once diagnosed with folliculitis but I totally believe that was the wrong diagnosis because of the boils. The medicine for that never helped either. I'm not a doc but I'm 100% positive that I have HS.
I wish this disease was being actively researched. I hate wearing a bathing suit because of the marks and it makes me really paranoid.
If anyone has been officially diagnosed with a doc, please help me out and tell me what kind of doc I should be going to about this.
I have pretty severe HS. Even though there's no real evidence that its hereditary, my grandma, mom and aunt all have it. My aunt actually had her sweat glands stripped from her inner thighs and hasn't gotten a boil since (It's a pretty major surgery though!). My GP is the one who "officially" diagnosed me but my OB/GYN seemed to know exactly what it was too. I don't think the type of doc matters as much as finding one who is actually knowledgable on the subject. I've had to tell several practitioners what it even is. Doctor's have given me antibiotics when I get a severe flare-up but it never really helps anything. I don't think there's technically any infection involved so that's probably why. The only things I've noticed that help me is using antibacterial soap and staying as cool and dry down there as possible. Heat really seems to aggrivate it for me. I try to avoid having them lanced open at all costs because the pain is HORRIBLE. I just use heat to try and draw it out. My mom's symptoms improved after she had her hysterectomy so I'm guessing hormones play a role in HS.
Good luck getting a dx. It's such a horrible thing to have to live with but knowing what it is does help!
ive had horrible ones , too. Got a massive one surgically removed a few years back. Not a nice time. A cyster recommended that i drink 2-3 cups of green tea a day, and 2 cups of ginger tea which seems to have helped me.
I've done a alot of reading about it. I wonder if treatment for the adrenal glands (like prednisone) would help this problem - it's definately hormonal and tied to the adrenal glands.
WOW i never knew, i always have thought that it was bad acne or just a result of being over weight! Now I know what those painful nasty things are. I get them on my upper/inner thighs and my armpits. sometimes they gat really bad but here lately I havnt really had many. Thank You for all of the information, i will have to bring this up to my Dr. Next time i see her.
