My Mood: Points: 292.61 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 292.61 | I was diagnosed with HS 3 wks ago, though I had one surgically removed from under my arm in 2004. If only someone had diagnosed it correctly!
Now I have a cyst on my bikini line that comes back with AF every month! It took me 5 months to dig out the PCOS book and make the connection!
Now I'm going to assume anything happens to me is PCOS related! |

Now I'm going to assume anything happens to me is PCOS related! | I know the feeling. More often than not, I keep finding that most of the weird stuff that happens to my body is PCOS/IR related.
These boils pestered me for years and I never made the connection until a few months ago.

Just wanting to know what else i can do, the doctors cant do anything but put me on antibiotics and surgery is a waste of time. Thanks Ladies. |

My Mood: Points: 585.55 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 585.55 | I have HS too! They are so painful. I had surgery on my left armpit to remove my scarred over sweat glands in 2001. I have them both my armpits, groin, butt(sometimes) and now are starting to come out on my neck. It is starting to get really bad and I also have PCOS and had no idea they were related. I live in Houston and would like the name of your doctor hopefully my insurance will cover it. Will a regular endo doc deal with this too?
Any info will be so greatly appreciated! |

So...I really want to try some drawing salve but I have a few questions...so if anyone has used it I'd love fome info
1. Where do you get it? I've seen places online selling "black drawing salve" from anywhere from $2.99-$19.99. I'd like to pick some up on my own if I can...ordering online usually ends up costing more because of shipping and it saves materials (box & packing).
2. Does it hurt?!
3. Is it ok to put in um....sensitive places? Of course I wouldn't put it IN those places but I do have some boils that are pretty close to my girlie parts.
I'd love any info! Thanks | I swear by this stuff. You can get it at any pharmacy. I went to Acme to get mine - I asked the guy behind the desk. The real name is "Ickthomal". The guy looked at me like I was crazy and the head Pharm. came over and knew exactly what it was. It was $4.50 for the tube. When I get one - I put a huge glob (stinks like TAR) on the lump and cover it with a huge bandaid. Sometimes I will leave it on 12-24 hours and then take it off and it brings it right to a head. I remember one time I propped my leg up on the toilet to remove the bandaid and pulled the bandaid back and the boil/cyst (whatever you want to call it) drained right onto the floor... TMI - sorry but that is how good it works.
My sister gets them so bad that she has to get them surgically removed and she is out of work (and they put her on a pic line) for 4 weeks or so. She has had this done about 4 times in the lsat 2 years. She had also being trying to have a baby for about 8 years with no success. Ins. won't pay to find out what is wrong but now reading all these posts.... I wonder if she has PCOS or a hormone imbalance....
I get them here and there... More lately then before. I am a recent diabetic and I am on Metformin 1000/mg per day...
Interesting site... Good luck to all of you... Def. try the black salve (Ickthomal). My sister can't use it because her's tunnel in the other direction - not out of the skin.... |

Since I got pregnant I've noticed I have more boils. : / I guess it's because of all the hormone surges or something. Regardless of why...it's annoying.
Does anyone know...will a heating pad do the trick for helping bring these to a head? I know the trick about using a wash cloth & the hottest water you can stand...and then unfolding it as you go. I do that but I find it annoying. My washcloth always seems to get cold really fast.

I do that but I find it annoying. My washcloth always seems to get cold really fast. | I have a 6 month old son. I had them too while I was pregnant. He is just fine. I don't see why you can't use the salve while pregnant. You do not ingest it or use it "inside". It is just like an ointment. Ask your doc. But like I said I use it the entire time.
They say that sometimes they go away when pregnant and sometimes they get worse - its a 50-50 thing. Its the hormones your body is producing right now. Congrats on your pregnancy.
I read on here once about a chick that put some epsom salt on a hot wash cloth and applied it to the HS. Then they put a heating pad directly on top of that and this chick said it worked every time. |

My Mood: Points: 2,194.42 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,194.42 | i think i had/have this. i haven't had a boil since abandoning the junk food diet. when i used to get them i'd heat the boils with a washcloth soaked in boiling water (as hot as i could stand it, and then some) before stabbing them with a sterilised darning needle. disgusting, primitive, but got the job done. then drain and a wipe with tea tree oil and a very large bandaid over the wound.
at the time i was too embarassed to go to my doctor. i've got some nasty scars from the boils but they're fading. i took the darning needle advice from a roald dahl book, in which dahl describes his stay at a boarding school. he was in the infirmiry with another boy who had an absolutely enormous boil. the doctor came to visit both of them, had the poor boy look away and then plunged a scalpel into the boil, twisting the scalpel around while the boy "squealed like a stuck pig" (iirc). i'm not entirely sure taking third hand advice from an author's memoirs is the best course of action with hs, but i didn't think i had any other options . |

I had no idea it had to do with pcos. luckily I don't get them all the time, but when I do they are sooooo painfull. I think this year so far I've had 3. THe ones in my armpits after the go away I get those skin tag thingies. IDK

Sometimes i just put a plain dressing on them and they come to a head by them selves because the moisture under the dressing. I have massive scars in my armpits and groin area and one constant one under my belly roll. |
