OMG. I can't believe I'm over here crying after reading this.

I was dx with PCOS when I was 19 but I've had HS since I was 15-16. I've been SO embarrassed about it and it's really effected my confidence. DH knows about it & it doesn't bother him in the least bit but it bothers me. I don't have a horrific case (not like some I've read about) and I've never needed surgery. I do have a lot of scars and darker skin patches where they've been in the past.

My gyn & my regular doctors kept telling me they were ingrown hairs. No. They're. Not. When I was 15-16 my mom took me to this doctor who did dx it as HS right away and then told me no caffiene, no peanut butter, no deodorant, no tight fitting clothing. I'm not even lying, she suggested I wear a moo-moo around then house. She actually said moo-moo. Yeah....a 16 year old is going to be REALLY receptive to that.

I'm blown away that there are so many other people with this and that I'm not alone.

I know that tanning is a NO NO but, I have found that it also seems to help. SO I tan twice a week, it and meds help the flare ups for me.

I've been thinking about going tanning too actually. I know it's not good but I also have eczema and the tanning helps with that a lot too. Maybe I'll kill to birds with one stone!

I honestly thought that I was so crazy because I just couldn't get my body to behave! It breaks out my periods were weird, and I always had this weird feeling that getting preggers would be hard...since I was like 10. I am very glad now that I have found this site and I can talk to others like me. I have also found that my body likes secret's new clinical strength deodorant. It works well and doesn't seem to clog my pores.

I love this thread!!!

I was just posting on another topic about my "boil". I had no clue that this could be a side effect of PCOS. My doctors all just blow it off too. Tell me that it is just a ingrown hair or scar tissue. Well a dermatologist finally told me the truth...I need to have this surgically removed. I am way scared to do that but it is on my right inner thigh...below the crease of your leg. So no shorts or bikini bottoms for me...Not that I would wear them anyway! LOL

And this boil is insane, it is hard all the way around it. Very odd. I am glad I am not alone in this!

Hot baths sometimes help. I was told that it was bacteria that LIVES UNDER the skin not on it. See if you can get some antibiotics to help kill the flare up. I had to take them for 3 mos to get it better under control. This was before I found that I was PCOS.

I was put on a cycle of tetracycline (sp?) years ago and the doc told me it should help but he also said it was a short term thing, obviously you can't stay on them forever because you become resistant.

That's when I learned that ANY time I get put on an antibiotic I DEMAND a rx for a Diflucan too. TMI (but I know I'm not the only woman who gets this) but being on antibiotics gives me yeast infections. As if I needed another thing to deal with! It did help with the inflamation though.

I've been pretty lucky lately. No horrible ones...although I have one of the usual ones acting up a little...and there's a nice little hole the size of a pinhead. Lovely.

Smile Not sure if its this?

So while looking online I can across this word (aka Acne Inversa) I get cysts on my sides and armpits. Gross! I hate them and they are painful. My PCP sent me for blood work to check my sugar and I mentioned to him this word and if it could be PCO related. He wasn't sure... Bloodwork came back fine. No problems with my sugar at all. He prescribed me Benzaclin.. It definitly worked! I just wish I knew how to prevent it or if It is completed associated with PCO... Anyone know?

In the first post the OP was saying that there is a link between HS and PCOS. So it probably IS related to PCOS.

IF you have HS and bezaclin is an antibiotic it's a short term fix. At least that's what my doc said. Different people treat these differently. I've heard losing weight can help HS, being on BCP's can help....some people it's so bad nothing but surgery seems to help. All I know is that it SUCKS!

Hi Everyone, this is my first post. I've been reading all the msg's about boils and scarring - I found that when I went tanning and at the same time was using jergen's self tanner, the scars under my arms were barely noticeable! However, after coming back from holidays, and I didnt keep up with the tanning, I lost my tan and now you can see them again. Just thought I'd add something that helped me at least MASK the scars
