Ohhh fun fun fun! I also get these! Mine aren't huge, maybe the size of a blueberry. I get them in the crease of my inner thigh. OW! I thought they were from too tight undies or ones that didn't fit right..LOL In fact I had one just a few days ago. OMG that hurt so bad! I haven't had one since I got on the pill in Mar '06. I just got off in Dec '07..We are TTC so I need to get on Met not the BCP. At least the BCP did take care of mine.

I also got one on my cheek just before the thigh one. The one never got a head on it and it just went away. It hurt too, my glasses sat right on it. Actually I can still feel a tiny bump under my skin..AHHH! It's still there!

Ugh..I can't believe I have had these since I was about 11 when I hit puberty then I got them back again every once in a while..til 06..and now..ALL PCOS!

It's so nice to know that ONE syndrome causes ALL these lovely symptoms! YAY!...

I must admit I've never gotten them anywhere the sun (or anyone else) might have access to. I suppose I should be glad to not have to worry about the scars. I must say they are rather difficult to see and tend to, though.

I have been using the pure tea tree oil. I found it at the local food coop. It's wonderful to hear that GNC has it as well and it is readily available. Let me know how it works for you if you try it.

~TMI~

Yeah, I'm definitely going to get some tea tree oil and hope it works. This morning I had one ooze a little & I didn't know. It dried and little did I know when I pulled my undies down to use the bathroom I'd have to try not to scream because the undies were essentially fused to my skin at that point.

I FRIGGIN HATE THESE THINGS!

Question Re: Hidradenitis suppurativa (boil/cyst in armpit or groin)

I've learned so much from reading the posts in this forum it's amazing!!!!!! I've been getting these very painful boils in my underarm for the past few months and I've had some in the past in my groin area but never knew what they were. I thought it was just my body's way of getting rid of some kind of infection. I was diagnosed with PCO in 1996. Met and married DH in 1998. We've off and on talked about having children since then, but recently decided that if it happens we will be happy, but if not we will continue to just enjoy each other. I can so relate to all the self image issues many have discussed here. With the extra weight (being what's called a "super apple"), excessive hair, and they painful boils/cysts. I've tried taking the Metformin so many times I can't count anymore. I've lost weight with this initially, but could never take it long enough before my liver enzymes would elevate and the doctor would take me off of it. I've also gone thru many doctors over the years because none of them would take me seriously and would just want to put me on BCP and "watch me". I've dealt with pelvic pain, scanty menstrual cycles, recurrent yeast infections and it's only recently that I've realized just how serious my PCO was. My currently doctor has done so much for me it brings tears to my eyes because I've finally found someone who it trying to help me. To give you a little synopsis of my situation, several months ago my GYN performed an endometrial biopsy that was normal, no detection of endometial hyperlasia, but all she would offer to do was but me on birth control pills. I declined this as I took the pills in my late teens early twenties and it seemed my symptoms started after I stopped taking them. I started seeing an RE because we wanted to become pregnant. He ordered an HSG that turned out normal. Then he ordered an ultrasound which showed a 22 mm mass on my left ovary. He drew a series of labs that confirmed that my hormones were unbalanced and that my free testoserone was like 3 times the normal range. He gave me a one dose shot of Lupron to suppress my ovaries and ordered an MRI. The MRI confirmed his findings on the ultrasound. I will go back on May 12th (exactly 4 weeks after the Lupron injection) to have my labs drawn again. Per my RE if my hormones have gone down then the most likely cause of my imbalance is coming from my ovaries (although someone how I already suspect that). If not then it is coming from my adrenal glands and we have to come up with another plan. Either way I will have to have surgery and the mass will come out. Someone how I think I will fill alot better and I think many of my symptoms will go away once this mass is removed. So sorry for the long post ladies.

Iralex ~ It's great that you found a doctor who is looking after you. You mentioned yeast infections as a symptom and I wanted to encourage you to look at some of the info on here about candida control. Some ladies have apparently seen improvement in their PCOS symptoms and become pregnant when they were treated for excess yeast. It's just something for you to look at. I suspect you will find a great deal of relief when that cyst is removed. It can't possibly be making things better.

Question

Jess,

You know now I think about it, my mother has been plagued with boils for years and years. Doctors have done everything under the sun in terms of test and labs and they have been unable to come up with anything. Now she had a hysterectormy back in 1997. I can't remember if if was a complete or if she still has her ovaries. After just doing the reading here, I'm now wondering if she's getting them because she needs hormone replacement therapy.

Jess,

I will keep you in my prayers (as I will all of my cysters here) What you're going thru sounds exactly like what my mother has been going thru for years.

I've been reading that either topical application of plain yogurt (for 5-7 days) or eating yogurt with live cultures daily helps decrease amount of yeast infections we get. Has anyone see any info to support this?

You can also take probiotics. You can buy accidophelius (sp?) at any drug store, but the best stuff is going to be refigerated at a local health food store. Think yogurt x 1000.

Thanks Iralex I can't complain too much, I know there are others who have them a lot worse than I do.

Yet another thing I didn't know was closely related to PCOS....the yest infections. I don't get them as much any more but if I take an antibiotic--forget about it. When I do feel like I may be getting one (from something other than an antibiotic) I take those AZO yeast pills. They usually help & I don't end up getting one.
