I've got one that is driving me insane right now on my inner thigh-- i just want to go home and soak in the tub but Ive got a job that requires me to stand and walk around.... (with the exception of checkin SC every now and then)

I am SO glad I am not the only one who is dealing with this issue.

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE!! For my entire pregnancy my doc has been treating me with antibiotics (thinking it was a chronic staff infection) for these boils on my groin and armpits (that started about 26 weeks into my pregnancy). finally 2 nights ago she suggested that this is what i have. she told me to try turmeric (sp?) anyone have any luck with this. not only is this painful. it's embarassing! my dh says he dosen't care, but i've got horrible scars and open sores. I know this is what I have and I know I can blame PCOS for it. Does low-carb dieting seem to help?

breoliver,

Since I started cutting all the sugar and limiting my carbs to complex ones (whole grain stuff on every piece of bread I eat and only six portions tops of carbs a day), I haven´t had a single one, this is over a year ago.

So for me, it works. Hope it works for you!

A friend of mine had one on her bikini line that snuck up on her..... it got so bad she was hospitalized and had to have it surgically cut open and packed. She was running a high fever. Did you know that if thebacteria from one of the cysts enters your blood stream it can kill you? They really are dangerous... you have to watch them!

Wow! thank you for posting this!!! I just thought I had bad luck and that those bumps were just really bad infected hairs but they would never like pop and they were always hard. I am definitely going to bring this up to my doctor the next time I go. i had no idea that this was a symptom. Thank you!

I had no idea that these were related to my PCOS! They have never been so bad that I thought I needed surgery, except the dark red scar they leave behind. Is that what happens to everyone? I always thought I was getting pimples and that my circulation was bad or something which is why they weren't going away. And by the way...the pictures that come up when you search the web are horrendous!

Wow I am so glad I found this thread!! I've had these flare ups since my teens and never known why! I remember finding my first one about a week after my first sexual experience and was convinced that I'd caught a STD. Even though I had tests done which confirmed it wasn't one I still swore off sex for more than year!

I get them on my inner thighs, bikini area, armpits and under my breasts every few months. Great to see some tips which might be less painful than my usual popping!

unfortunately, scarring is part of it. I have not got one since I stopped drinking diet coke. Last month, I drank one diet coke, and here it came again. Amazing. I am in menopause however, so my hormones are all over the place. I am not sure still for sure, but still...

Okay ladies I need some help here! = ) I just entered a new exclusive relationship, about 2 months so far. I explained HS to him & let him read all about it on tha net etc & I've shown him my groin area since we're intimate. I really care about him & he says he really cares about me too. However sometimes he makes comments about how tha HS bothers him a lil bit, which is understandable. He keeps thinkin it's contagious or STD-related. Even tho NO website has EVER said so, & trust me I would know if it was an STD or if it was contagious but he's still kinda leery about it. Plus I've told him "Don'tcha think you'd have it by now if it was an STD or contagious?!?!?" But you know men!! = ) Has anybody else experienced their new man hesitating about it & was there anything th@ worked for you & yours (like more conversations about it or more research or something like th@)? Any ideas could really really help me here.

I am sorry you are having to go through this! The first time I got these nasty, painful things was when I was a very innocent thing in the 10th grade. .. definitely not an STD!!!

Have you let your SO read these boards? It really is just a kind of acne that we get on our inner thighs.

I learned when I was pregnant that Acne Free and Proactive type creams were helpful for me. My doctor advised me to follow the skin care routine on my thighs. It actually helped.

Also, when I have my IR under control (IR diet and metformin) they go away or are not as bad.

Hope that helps.

Default A few things that work for me

I stubbled upon this message board, researching folliculitis and any connection to joint hypermobility sydrome or Ehlers-Danlos Hypermobility type.

I've had the problem of what I've called ingrown hairs anywhere I have courser hair, mainly but not limited to inner thigh, bikini area, and underarm as well as flair ups both of my legs from ankle up. Other areas include face (mainly chin/jaw line), scalp/hair line behind ears, forearm and bottom. Potentially anywhere I have a hair that is coarse and any kind of curl, which I assume starts to clog this nearby oil gland.

I've had many bad experiences with male doctors who have given me a tiny trial antibiotic tube to use on what is about half my body. Another told me not to shave, I tried that. It did make the overall flare ups better, where I would have minor infections on every hair follicle on my legs. These flairups happened with increased heat and humidity. However, not shaving made the major problem of little boils/ingrown hairs increase and worse. Shaving acted like a luffa stopping some problems, but the whole leg flair ups once or twice amonth, was not acceptable either. In college a well meaning female doctor kept giving me antibiotics, which inevitabily were followed by a yeast infection. Occasionally, they would need to be lanced. For about 15 years I did the following which was incredibly time consuming, but made it managable:1. I used tanning beds once a week or so (nude) only for partial time, about 7 mins. It helped dry out and kill bacteria, helping to prevent infections. 2. I waxed and did not shave at all. This took away some of luffa affect for my skin, but overall was more tolerable.3. Inbetween full waxing which took most of an entire day, I used tweezers and plucked/prevented problems from occurring. If I noticed an infection starting but no opening or hair to allow drainage, I would lance it myself and squeeze any fluids etc out. After dealing with this my entire life my pain threshold is pretty high. I suppose anyone who can do their own bikini wax has to have a high pain threshold.4. For some relief the Tea Tree soaps and dandruff shampoos helped as well as if shaving (though I only shaved my lower legs inbetween waxing) using an alpha-hydroxy lotion helped after shaving burn after the initial sting. 5. Currently I have found the closest thing to a cure I believe there is in laser hair removal treatments. It takes about 12 treatments and is not inexpensive, about $3000 to $5000 from start to finish. But it is cheaper than I thought it would be. Even though I have had to stop tanning and waxing, it has been worth it. It takes a minimum of a year, but I am halfway through and been getting treatments as I can for two years and it has been liveable at the worst and heavenly at best a week or two after a treatment. My insurance wouldn't cover it, but my medical spending account can be after jumping a few hoops.

After reading all of your postings, I felt the need to share what has helped me. I hope the information is useful.
