Holland- as long as it is draining that is a good sign. They need to heal from the inside out because of basically being holes.

I have never had to use pain pills. I use tons of Advil though!! The anti-inflammatory helps to ease the pain of the redness around the site. Although, I am probably damaging some other organ due to the amount of Ibuprofen I ingest.

I have actually taken knives to myself to break open and drain....I am going to try a heating pad next time. It sounds......less painful???? LOL

Reading everyone's experiences really lets me know I am not alone in this. For such a long time I thought I was.

Does having the boils/cysts affect intimacy? I know it does for me. I feel so many things...gross, smelly, infectious...how do you deal? My DH has never made me feel this way....it's all me and my head. Daytime or lights on sex is out of the question. I don't want him to see the scars, the bandaids, or the possible rupturing.

Does anyone get them where it is not a "hotspot"? I have gotten ones on my stomach nowhere near a waistband. I have gotten them on top my breast/chest. Nowhere near sweaty. Those hurt so bad because you don't have the "natural" moist/heat to hurry along the rupturing.

TMI....I don't think it is too much. It lets me know I am not the only one. I keep saying that I know.....but.....HS has been so mentally and physically damaging to me.

People who don't have it or know someone who does.....can't understand.

Yes! My calves! Go figure. The first one I got there, I didn't realize it was a boil and thought it was a spider bite or something. I've had a few there now and scars for each one.

When I have them, they do definitely affect intimacy, regardless of where on my body they are. I'm afraid he'll squeeze my leg too hard and get a nasty surprise. Or if it's a groin one - forget about it. It hurts to walk let alone get some action. Like your husband, my boyfriend has never made me feel bad about it, but I always do.

Luckily (???), mine were always limited to the groin. I stopped getting them after I began taking Met. I haven't had any since getting pregnant. I guess the hormone change did it for me. It will be interesting to see if they come back after the baby. I'm VERY glad to not have the severe ones you all have described.

I get them on my breast and tummy too, just mostly the groin. I feel the same way about intimacy also but dh has always been good about it. When I get one that is bad and I can barely walk due to the friction, I wear an ace bandage, not loose, kind of snug and that helps me be able to do things and get around. I also will put neosporin if I am out of bactroban under bandage.

I don't wear bathing suits or tank tops. You are not the only one. /my brother gets them too just as bad. I don't like for dh to EVER see them, they suck. They have definately affected my life in a bad way.

hi

mine are usually under my arms, and on my head. Having them on the head is quite rare, apparently......... :rolleyees:

I was diagnosed with PCOS and HS as well. My doctor said that HS was not contagious and to not worry. I used to be on BC and when I was, it seemed to clear up.....only scars remained......But now, they took me of BC because it was messing with my blood pressure. I've been on met for over 2 years and I read someone else's post here mentioning that since they been on met, there was no flare up. Unfortunately, that isn't the case for me. For me, since I've been off BC they've come up all over again.

It's nice to see that I'm not alone!!

I was a lucky one too with my pregnancies....never a one. It must have been the hormones. Also, being diabetic and pregnant I ate better and took care of myself. No greasy foods, etc.

Melissa- The one on your tailbone is a polynitol cyst (sp?). If it comes back again, you need to go to the dr and get it lanced and packed, so it can drain. I had one a long time ago, and I had to keep it packed and open for over a month so it can heal from the inside out.

Yep, she's right. I had to have surgery on mine when I was 19. There is actually a pocket that is not sealed while in utero that can become pussy and infected. The only way to permanently get rid of a polinidal cyst is surgery.

There are some wicked cool medical reports about finding "twin tissue" in the polinidal sacks. No such luck with mine. Just puss.

Hi girls. I have HS, and it's terrible. I've had it for 7 years. I started rapidly gaining weight and saw the first sign in my groin area. At the time, I didn't even know I had PCOS or what the hell was going on with all these boils! Yeah, TMI, but the majority are "down there". They are very painful and when they heal, they usually come back later or leave a hole with a black spot around it. I have some on my breasts and armpits as well.
Some have gotten as big as a golfball. I found draining is almost unavoidable. Sometimes I light a the end of a needle on fire and stick it to drain. Sorry, TMI, but it works to drain them so they aren't so damn painful.
My gynie says I have the worst case she's ever seen. It's emotonally and physically draining at times. Not to mention the embaressment of letting a DR se them, and DH. Thank God DH could care less!!!!
You're not alone girls. ((HUGS))

Intimacy - besides my own inhabitions, it can be painful. The rubbing against them and such. I agree, no lights, cameras (lol) etc. I also have to wear bandaids so they don't "leak" all over my clothes after a rupture. The scars are not so pretty, but DH could really care less, as long as he's getting some. LOL! KWIM? He loves me, and it's just my own insecurities.

I have gotten them around my waistband, and under my nipples. It can sometimes be a hot spot. We should wear looser clothing to avoid the sweating and rubbing when infammed.

((hugs)) You're not alone.

I've heard that tree oil keeps them at bay and has actually cured a cyster that I know. Anyone have any experience with tree oil?

Is this the grossest thread ever or what?

I never had any problems until after I had my 2nd baby and then started getting nasty boils, exactly as described here, but it had nothing to do with PCOS - it was a antibiotic-resistant staph also known as MRSA, probably from the hospital when I had the baby. And because I delayed treatment for over a year (who wants to go to the Dr for that, really?), my two babies also got it from me. Our whole family had to be treated and we haven't had anything back since then. Yay! The treatment is putting ointment in your nose, because that's where the stuff lives, even though it causes boils (and other nastiness, apparently) everywhere else - strange, huh?

I urge everyone to get tested for MRSA ASAP, just in case it is more than just a hormonal problem.
