I had one on my tail bone about 8 years ago. It was already leaking when I saw the Dr, so he was able to drain it in the office. I put antibiotic cream on it and it went away. I don't think it was related to the HS, though.
I use tea tree oil on all sorts of things. I don't think I've ever tried it on a cyst, but it works well on acne and bug bites. When I go my nose pierced the tech told me to use it on the site if there was any sign of infection. It worked great for that.

I have gotten these awful little boil things in the thigh area since I hit puberty. I stopped getting them earlier last year when I started taking Vitex and then later started metformin. I am now 20 weeks pregnant and have the worst constellation of them ever. I am having trouble resting tonight because of the discomfort. They are all over my inner thighs. I guess the fact that my thighs are bigger now and rubbing together has made the problem worse. I don't know what to do. I have my ob appointment next week and will show them to the doc. Anyone else pregnant and dealing with these things?

I've had this since puberty and didn't know until yesterday that it was linked to PCOS. Once I started Met they got slightly better. The boils no longer get big enough to drain. Now it's mostly like black head and blemishes more than boils. I get them mostly under my arms and on my thighs...also on my waist line and under my breasts. I'll sometimes get them in random places..like on my stomach away from my waist line...or on my back or my shoulder, often where my bra strap hits. I have an appointment in march and plan to talk to my OBGYN about it, see if he can suggest anything...or send me to a dermatologist who can.

Once again - Kudos to this website. I am just amazed. I have had this since I was 19 or 20. I went to a Dr. scared to death as I get them on the inside of my thighs right along the crease - panties/pants really hurt. The Dr. I went too invited other Dr.'s into the room and REALLY embarrased me. He said it was due to shaving - if I stopped they'd go away.
That is not true. So I have dealt with it for 17 years. I have decided this year to take care of my body. So at my last appt. 3 weeks ago with a new family Dr. I brought it up and let her see my new growth. Again, I was told that it was because of shaving, but I had not shaved there.
I feel bad for all of you that are experiencing this same painful problem - however, I feel so much better knowing I am not the only one!!!!!!! Thank you!
Huh. So that's what that is. I always thought they were just big ugly pimples.
I'm lucky, I guess - I just get one or at most two fairly small ones (large pimple-sized) at a time on my upper inner thighs, backside, or hip, every so often, so I guess I have an incredibly mild case.. I usually treat them with lavender oil or tea tree oil, and that does tend to be effective. If they get bad, I have used ice cubes to bring the swelling down and put some Neosporin and a Bandaid on, and that will usually clear it up. Although - reading this thread, maybe I'll try heat instead.

I have been getting a LOT of these lately despite taking supplements (See my list in my signature). I don't know what I can do to avoid them. Any advice?

My bumps went away completely when I was on Met last summer (1500mg/day). (I stopped Met when I got pregnant in September.) The bumps started to painfully cover my thighs beginning in January when I was having more difficulty coping emotionally and physically at work. (They have always been exacerbated by stress for me.) It was getting worse and worse. I finally mentioned it to my doctor at my last visit (2-12-07). He suggested that I use the AcneFree (like ProActive) that I have been using on my face.
After a week, they are all mostly healed and no new ones!!!! I just use the repair lotion (step 3) on them after bathing. (I start an early maternity leave next week, so that should also help me out with my stress levels.)
AcneFree (Walmart or CVS) or ProActive might be worth a try for some of y'all! Good luck!

I had to have surgery for a peri anal abcess a boil in the worst area and it healed but keeps coming back it's awful. I was just diagnosed with pcos I go to the Dr. for my follow up tommorow.
I may have to try that AcneFree stuff...see if it gives me some results before my appointment next month. Thanks for the suggestion.
They say not to shave the area...that just makes it worse...but I've found there is not differance either way...and I'd prefer to keep my underarms shaved if you please.
I also tried changing deoderants...i've tried many...and even tried not using it at all...that didn't last long. It's amazing the things a person is willing to try to make these things go away.
