I have had this all my life, diagnosed w/PCOS 5 years ago. Wonder if I had PCOS all my life, I have always been overweight, struggled with losing it. hmmmmm! The HS has decreased tremendously in the past 4 years.

I just wanted to thank the OP for posting this. I've had this since early puberty and I had no idea what it was. All of my doctors, even my OB who is treating me for PCOS really didn't say anything about it. I have horrible scars under my arms and in my groin area from these nasty things. I'm really embarassed to wear a bathing suit or sleeveless top because of it. I'm glad I finally have some insight into what it is!

Yep me too, I am very self concious about a bathing suit, I tried cleaning the areas with rubbing alcohol, and it reduced risk for boils for me. I quit getting them under my arms about 2 years ago (knock on wood) now I get them under my breasts, which are really uncomfortable and gross

Wow! I'm so glad I stumbled across this thread. I started getting these under my armpits last year. I thought it was stress related (we were building a house in the country and planning our wedding) but then I started BCPs and they disappeared. I'm definitely going to mention this to my doctor at my next visit.

I used to get them all the time, but since I've gotten my diabetes under control with Metformin and lost 97 pounds, I haven't gotten any!

I also have hs. Just wanted to share what has been working for me. I use to have a couple of these on my thighs all the time. I have been using Ivory soap (it is a drying soap) and after I shower I use a stridex (acne) pad all over my upper thighs. Then I use a hair dryer and make sure that my skin is dry. I have not been getting them very much at all. I have also noticed that the purple scars have faded tremendously. My dr. also suggested pouring hydrogenperoxide over the area before showering. Hope this helps someone.

I don't know if this is what I have but I have something. Two years ago i started getting ingrown hairs around my bikini area. Now it's all over my thighs. Lately I've been getting bigger ones. They're filled with white pus and there's a hair that grows in them. I don't have them in my groin area or my underarms. it's on my thighs. I don't have too many active at one time but they leave marks. I showed them to three doctors and they didn't help me much....just told me to use antibacterial soap. It's one symptom that bothers me the most.

i havent had a flair up in about 14 months. Whats helped me - is drinking 2-3 cups of green tea a day, and 2 cups of ginger tea a day. Also, i use a pit rock - (herbal stone) not a 'real' deodorant.

Thank you soooo much. I have had these for years and never knew what they were. I have always been too embarrassed to bring them up to anybody so I have just suffered through them.

It love to be able to put names to my problems. It somehow makes them seem "real"

I will be doing alot more reading on this thanks to your insight.

Thanks again

Once my Dr's increased my gloucophage dosage to 1500mgs I have only gotten 1. I'm so happy their finally not as bad as they once were!

I feel for anyone that gets them

I've also had them before - - one on my thigh and another in my private area. Was so painful - - went to an emergency clinic to have them removed. I was in so much pain I wasn't embarassed to show my coochie. Had one appear on my upper thigh and went straight to the doctor's office. Wouldn't you know, my regular female doctor was off that day. Had to see a male doctor. He looked at it and said it was a cyst, that I needed to see a dermotologis - - scheduled me an appointment for 4 weeks out, can you beleive it? That one DID turn out to be an ingrown hair because it busted that night (I'd placed a band-aid it to help stop the pain). I was glad I didn't need to have it lanced and drained like I did the other two times, but I was mad that I had to pay $20 co-pay to get the wrong diagnosis!

Red face Omg

You are such a blessing to have posted this info. I've had this problem for 7 years and never knew what it was except for it was horribly bad on my inner thighs. I did notice though my caffine intake effects the severity. My poor legs are so scarred up from me leaving them alone and them breakin themselves. Well thanks bunches for the answer I've been searching for.
