Default High Blood pressure meds and ttc?????

Ive posted this on the ttc board but also thought it may be appropriate here too so here goes: Hi Guys!! Need some help after a verrry stressful day. I know some of you out there are being treated for high blood pressure and are ttc. Keywords are being treated. I have been treated for 5 years and I have been fine till recently. My RE said the med I was on was dangerous for a fetus and to talk with my pcp about changing it. That was 4 months ago-- I was changed to methyldopa which is safe but unbeknownst to me was not working. My PCP has since relocated and I have not found a new PCP. I went in for my ovarian drilling last week and my bp of course was high. I was told to make a appt with my pcp to have it checked so today I went to my old PCP's office to see a NP and they take my bp with a wrist cuff. Im 300 lbs how can one of those be accurate on me. I always have needed the use of a thigh cuff on my arm to get an accurate reading. Well my reading on the wrist cuff is 186/135. The NP starts freaking out and gets the doctor. Now mind you I have no headache,my cheeks are not flushed and no whoooshing in my ears --all which are my "symptoms" when It gets excessively high. The doctor comes in in a panic and says we need to do all these tests which I appreciate at first because she is concerned for me. Then in her next breat she says and I quote "I must be rediculous If I was even considering pregnancy in my state". Now mind you I have seen an endicrinologist about my weight about 6 months ago and he told me to get pregnant now and then he'd treat me after for my weight. Then he referred me to my RE. I've invested 100's of $$ so far and just had ovarian drilling 1 week ago. Does she think I woke up this morning and decided to ttc???!! The f-ing lady met me for the 1st time ever today. AAAGGGGHHH!!! SO anywho! I had an appt with my RE for follow up for my OD--and I simply break down in the nurses office. He comes in and jokes with me & stuff. Then the nurse tell him what happened and he asked me about it so after a 1/2 hr with my boo hooing and he said he wants me to just see a nephrologist who can probably perscribe something for my hbp and be safe for a fetus. SOOOOOOO to those of you taking hbp medicine and TTC---what are you taking and what support do you have with your Dr.s????

Next time, don't let them get near you with that wrist cuff! I had my BP checked on one once (I am big too and need a large cuff) and my pressure was sky-high! Your doc really freaked out for no reason. Now, your reading was horrible but it was probably the dang cuff, not you. Don't feel bad!

I had OK-to-borderline BP before I conceived, and it began climbing around 12 weeks pregnant. The doc put me on Labetalol, which is baby-safe. There are also some pregnant cysters here who take Aldomet. Both are fine for babies. Don't worry! Your dream of being a mom will come true and you can safely control your BP. Best to do it before you conceive. Good luck to you and let me know if you have any questions.

Do you monitor your BP at home? I do and it's very reassuring.

methlodopa(sp?) can be increased in dosage to help. I was on that while pregnant when my blood pressure first started becoming an issue and was VERY high 170/120 YIKES!!

Aldomet was the one I was on which is generic for that I believe.

buy a monitor to watch at home because some people(many) do get increased bp in the dr. office. Bring it with if you get one and they can compare it to their readings.

I was on Aldomet while TTC (methlydopa is the generic). It can be increased in dosage if it's not working for you. There are several baby-safe BP meds out there. I would definately find a new dr!

Good Luck!
