I'm interested to hear what your RE/Endo says. In my personal experience, my RE tested then referred me to an Endo for further testing and meds.
I'm new to this, and posted similar info on another thread hoping others could give me some more information. But here are a couple of points I have found (from "American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists Medical Guideline for Clinical Practice for the Evaluation and Treatment of Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism" published December 2002).
- "Subclinical hypothyroidism refers to mildly increased serum TSH levels in the setting of normal free T4 and T3 estimates" ... while "patients with clinical or overt hypothyroidism exhibit reduced free T4 estimates and increased TSH levels"
- I have subclinical: TSH at 6.0, T4 and T3 normal, with no apparent symptoms
- "Treatment of subclinical hypothyroidism remains controversial"...."We believe that treatment is indicated in patients with TSH levels >10 mcIU/ml or in patients with TSH levels between 5 and 10 mcIU/ml in conjunction with goiter or positive anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (or both)"
Anyway, I've been on meds for a little over a week (25 mcg synthroid) and get checked in another 1.5 weeks for my response. I didn't have any overt symptoms before (I have recently been more tired than normal, but I think its because I've been on clomid), but I am trying to assess my energy level now and I may have more energy since starting the meds. Either way, I didn't have glaring symptoms prior, but maybe I'll feel better in general on the meds like others do. Also in 1.5 weeks I get evaluated further - more bloodwork to test for antibodies, ultrasound of my thyroid, etc. I'll learn more then.
Good luck to you!
