Default High insulin level?

Hi I just went to the doctor and he said my insulin came in at 29 and its supposed to be below 12 do you think maybe this is why we are having a hard time ttc? Thanks Jamie

Hi Jamie,

Did she take other hormonal levels as well? My insulin is high and my progesterone is low. I guess when one hormone goes wacky, it throws all of them out of wack. I would definately have your doctor do further research.

YES! This is probably why you're having problems. Ask for a prescription for Metformin. At first, the tummy side effects will be a pain in the butt, but it's worth it if you stick with it. Metformin will bring your insulin into control, which will help balance out the other hormones. It's helped a lot of cysters get pregnant. Once you're pregnant, stay on it at least through the first trimester - it helps prevent the miscarriages that are common with us.

Did your doc check other hormones? With PCOS, they're usually very screwy... There's a lot of info on this in the Newbie forum.
