High LH:FSH, low insulin, what is going on? Long story...
Two years ago after years of NEVER having a regular period and being told it was due to low body fat, I went to a new doctor for pelvic pain issues. He decided to run some blood work on me.
Turns out my LH:FSH ratio is 5:1. Pretty scary considering doctor told me 3:1 was related to PCOS. He also did fasting insulin bloodwork, and as it turns out, my fasting insulin is actually LOW (3.0 mcU/mL), fasting glucose is What does this mean? Every time I don't eat often enough I shake so bad I can't walk and break into a cold sweat. I am also a carb addict!
I'm fairly thin (very muscular/athletic) and don't really have any excess body hair or acne problems. All of this was a total surprise. The doctor basically told me I really didn't need to worry about it until I was ready to have kids (I was 20 at the time), and didn't run any other tests.
I have been on Ovcon 35 for several years. I still don't really have a period, maybe slight staining. I have felt like I am practically spayed or gender-neutral! Well for the past 3 months or so my hormones have gone COMPLETELY out of control. Major bouts of erractic cramping bleeding, breast pain that lasts for weeks then disappears, unbelievable mood swings that happen in the middle of my cycle, hair is falling out, and I feel like I have gained weight, although my eating/exercise is the same. Also, I now have no period, at all.
Until lately I had just kind of put out of my mind the whole PCOS thing. But now I am so out of whack and my husband and I are more serious about having kids. We have moved to a new area and I am seeing a doctor next week.
Any insight on what is going on? One of my biggest questions is why did my insulin level come back low, what does that mean? The whole insulin connection is a little confusing to me.
