Default High Platelet Count and other problems.

Hi Everyone,
I have a question. Hopefully someone can help. I have been having a lot of problems lately with endometriosis and ovarian cysts. The last two blood tests that I have had have shown high platelet counts. I have asked my doctor and he has never really given me an answer. Has anyone else had this? Also, I am looking for a doctor in the DFW area. I have been going to one and am not happy with the treatment. He has been prescribing Metformin, which is great, but acts like I am a freak of nature about the endometriosis. I have pain most of the time due to the endometriosis and cysts but he tells me the only thing to do is to take Lupron. After knowing all of the side effects, I am not willing to do that. At first he mentioned a laprascopy but has now decided that I am too big for surgery and should go with Lupron. Help!
Thanks!

Hi melanie...
I do not have this problem myself, but I can tell you that an elevated platelet level is not as big an issue as a low platelet level. It will make you more prone to blood clots though, which might be why your doc does not want to risk a surgery. Surgery itself carries a risk of blood clots on it's own. But I am not sure Lupron is the ticket either. PLEASE research it. it can have serious neurological side effects. Be sure you know the risks of Lupron. Endometriosis is closely related to estrogen, so you might want to check out a progesterone therapy for a while to see if that helps the symptoms. progesterone can also help with conception. you can try a natural remedy also like chasteberry. PLEASE do research though. 8 Years is a LONG time to wait for a baby, and I am not sure Lupron will make that wait any shorter. You might prefer to wait on the met, and work on raising your progesterone level.
