I was just curious if anyone has high prolactin. I believe I do currently but not sure why. If anyone does, do you have pain in the area of the milk duct? My pain has decreased tremendously, but I still have one little knot in that area that is sore. Thank you for all your replies and help!

I just wanted to let you know that when I was tested back in 2003 my prolactin was very high but I had no problems it was just part of the work up the Dr gave me in part of checking for PCOS. Hope someone else can help you out with it.

My Mood: Points: 2,534.50 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,534.50 | A few years ago, I was getting ready to participate in a PCOS study. However, when the doctor did the preliminary tests on me, he discovered that my prolactin level was too high for me to participate. I didn't really know what all of this meant and I chickened out when I should have gone back for more testing. I'm not even sure if I should be concerned about this now, 3 yrs later. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. |

When i was dx with pcos they found i had high prolactin from the blood tests. my only symptoms from it were that i produced a watery like substace from my nipples (wtmi) and they got really achey sometimes.I'v never been pregs so that was not the reason. since then from the reseach i've done it also can be the reason for irregular af. which i have. that's bout all i know

My Mood: Points: 4,295.26 Bank: 5,885.09 Total Points: 10,180.35 | I had high prolactin. First they tested me for a tumor of the pituitary gland. If you have one of these adenomas, it can generally be treated with medication. I did not have a pituitary adenoma, so from there they deduced PCOS. I think I also had marginally high testosterone.
During that time when my periods were wacky and my prolactin was high, I also had sore breasts quite a bit, but I never had a milky discharge. So I can't say if the nipple or areola changed. Mine did not. Just that my breasts had increased in size and they often hurt.
But since losing weight and my prolactin being back in the "normal" range, I haven't had the pain (except during pms).
PS, Stacey, I like your lamby ticker. cute!

Points: 646.98 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 646.98 | Hi, I have high prolactin too. I don't know how my tests compared to others, but I know they were concerned about a "prolactinoma" - a sort of tumor on the pituitary that secretes prolactin. I went thru 2 brain MRIS w/ negative results. Other than that, I haven't gotten any treatment. But, I don't have any breast problems though... Who know's, it's a mystery to me.

Points: 538.52 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 538.52 | I currently have slightly elevated prolactin levels. I was sent for an MRI and it came back as suspicous of a 5mm microadenoma but it isn't confirmed. The endocrinologist isn't convinced I have an adenoma cuz my prolactin levels were around 50 and with that they should be in the 100s. He thinks I have PCOS. I just went for my glucose test today. He is also sending me for a retest of my prolactin levels, thyroid and t something on Thursday. I get the results on Tuesday.
I used to get really back stabbing pains in my left breast but for some reason in the last few months it has stopped. There is no discharge. |

Yep - that! Although I only went through 1 MRI and it came back clean. I never had any problems with my breasts however. I did go on some medication as I was TTC and my OB thought it would help me ovulate (nope) to have my prolactin in line.
After I had my DD, I never dropped a drop of Breast milk - knowing my issues with my prolactin to begin with, I chose to FF and in hindsight, I'm glad I did as I doubt I would have had any breastmilk.
