Default High TSH level Still??

This is my story pretty much.. i was DX hypo on 1/10/08 with a TSH of 6.75 a short few days later i saw my primary care and was put on 25mcg of Synthroid.. i went back February 13th or so and my TSH had gone up to 7.5! Well he put me on 50mcg of levothyroxine.. i started that and went back March 13th and my TSH was still at 7.5!! Here i am in April and am now on 75mcg and i still feel pretty crappy... i don't think my TSH has really gone down and if it did great. I guess i am just starting to lose hope. I go back April 8th for another lab check... my question is will my TSH ever go down.. why is it with some people with higher levels than me their TSH goes down with 25 or even 50mcg but mine wont even go down at all with 50 and possibly 75!! I mean we have been playing with my dosage now for going on 4 months now and im getting irritated and losing hope that my TSH will NEVER reach normal limits.. why doesn't my DR just up me from 75mcg to like 120mcg or w/e it is instead of me getting upped 25mcg a month to only go back when the dosage isn't working?? I am also TTC and the TSH is playing a big part in my infertility i just want my TSH number to go down already. =(

I was diagnosed with hashimoto's and hypothyroidism last year. My levels still aren't right. My last tsh was 6.42. It takes a while for your doctor to get the right dosage for you. Are you seeing an endocronologist? Normally a doctor will slowly up your dosage until they find the right one that your body needs. I am currenty on 125mcg of Synthroid and I have slowly worked up to this dosage. Also it takes a few weeks before you may feel any difference if any. Hang in there! I know it is frustrating. My tsh before this last one was 2.9 and then jumped to 6.42. You will get to euthyroid status it just may take a little longer than expected. The doctor also doesn't want to overdose you on synthroid because that can cause you to go into the hyper category. I hope this helps you.

Sometimes it can take several months, even up to a year, to get the correct dose. Are you taking it at the same time and the same way everyday? Are you taking it before a meal and not with a meal? How you take it can affect your dose. As long as you are taking it the same way, at around the same time everyday you should be fine.

I assume that you are seeing an endocrinologist, if you aren't I recommend that you find one that specializes in thyroid disease/dysfunction. You will likely receive much more specialized treatment for your hypothyroidism. And the endo will be more likely to look at other reasons why your TSH still hasn't gone down, like Hashimoto's or a nodule.

Hang in there, I know it's a pain in the ass, but soon you will feel better!
