Default Highly suggest you investigate

Hello Ladies, Happy Thanksgiving. I will make this as brief as possible. I was diagnosed with PCOS about years ago, have had irregular periods since I began menstrating, hair loss for 4 years, etc. I have been to the "best doctors" in the Atlanta area, about 5, one of which may have had an idea as to what was really going on. I've done met, bcp, spiro, dutasteride, ovarian drilling etc. I went to Dr. Taylor who specializes in bioidentical hormones. After all this time, my salivary test came back and revealed something that has gone unnoticed. Though I may have secondary pcos, my primary problem is from my adrenals. We will retest in 4 wks to see if it is due to an enzyme defiency or they simply don't produce cortisol. My cortisol was 2 (should be 13-24 early morning) and was 2 throughout day and my androstenedione was 547 (borderline high is 275-400). I was given Cortef and am still going to take the flutamide for a while. I feel better already and it's only been a few days!!!! She explained that since my body was deficient in cortisol, my adrenals were pumping out androstenedione= masculine characteristics. This was not revealed by blood tests, only salivary. We all have different etiologies, etc. but if and when nothing works, test adrenals via salivary testing. I don't know if I am free and clear yet, don't want to say, but I feel like it!!!!!!

Default I wonder

Few years ago i was dx with an adrenal tumor. They did cortisol tests and all looked fine. I am supposed to have it removed but lord knows I dont have enough time for a surgery. I wonder if maybe thats whats going on with me? My RE hasnt done an ultrasound to see my ovaries, she took one look at me and said PCOS. I dunno...

thanks for posting about all of that. I thought my doctors would never come to the diagnosis of my having PCOS because I had to go through so many tests to rule everything else out and having my cortisol levels checked was one of the things. I just got frustrated with having all of those tests run, but now that I have read your post I am really glad that they did run those tests on me to rule it out. Thanks for posting your experience.
