Default highmark blue shield ins and bcps

Hi, I just had to change medical insurance with my company. I used to have cigna and my ortho cyclen was covered and only $10.00 a month but now I have the highmark blue shield insurancePPO, and I heard somewhere that it does not cover it or if does it is still like $40.00, does anyone here have blue shield insurance and if so do you know if it covers the ortho cyclen? I tried calling the pharmacy but they said that they would have to send the claim in first to see if it is covered. than

If it is Anthem/Blue Shield, it is covered.

My old insurance: Golden Rule, which changed into UnitedHealthcare, wouldn't cover it without a fight and a note from my doctor that it was to treat PCOS and not to treat pregnancy, so that is always an option if bcps are not covered by insurance for traditional reasons.

Does your insurance have a website where you can check...or a contact person who you could ask?

Usually your insurance policy folder has a number to call for these questions. There are tons of Blue Cross/Blue Shield providers out there and every plan is slightly different. Just call Customer Service or check the website--they'll know.

We have blue cross/blue shield of Kansas and it covers BCPs. We pay $30-$45for brand name drugs and $15 or less for generics. I just took in a new script for Ortho-Cyclen today and they filled it with the generic which I think is called Sprintec.

Good luck,
Michelle
