Default Hirsutism Survey

Just a li'l SURVEY here lol. created by ME! part of this is from my own xperience so im just wonderin how many people are like me. u dont have to write in complete sentences but if you make it self-explanatory it would be great, altho i always have this to refer to. THANKS! theres 19 questions here.

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants?

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet?

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck?

4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible.

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason)

6 favourite method of hair removal (besides laser/electrolysis but if youre on it PRAY TELL how its working for you and how long it took to complete the treatments) here are some preferences: sugaring, waxing, threading, plucking, shaving, finishing touch/electronic hair removal blades, nair/cream. also please recommend brands, types, and pros of cons of the ones you like or dislike very strongly.

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet?

8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there.

9 HOW on EARTH do you get rid of all that tiny black stubble? the kind that looks like pores in your arms or wherever you remove it from? the ones that when you shave or whatever its still there! my legs even kinda look like that bcuz im so pale and then i got these li'l dots except on my legs its pores, on my arms its hair. anyone got any ideas?

10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit?

11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it.

12 anyone had any luck w/ the facial hair buffer, hair off mitten, or the Sally Hansen hair removal kit that includes the "hair wand"??? i dont know what the hair wand is but its called something like that i think, i cant remember but i was and am tempted to try it except that i think its probably going to be something like nair in a tube, or "wand". i just wanna know what it is!

13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc.

14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth?

15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit?

16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life?

17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control?

18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse?

19 pros & cons of your favourite method/least favourite method. i know ive put this a few times on here probably but i figure that different products may be listed on different areas so you dont have to answer this if you have already and youre going to say the same thing you already said...lol bcuz i dont wanna be a hassle BUT this is more for the last words on any product that is worth knowing about.

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants?
Well, I've had extremely hairy arms forever, so I'm used to it, although I have bleached it before. If I have any stubble on my legs whatsoever, I do wear long pants, though.

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet?
The hair on my toes has never really bothered me...I've recently started to shave it because I personally notice it more...I am not too self-conscious about it.

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck?
I've worn scarves before to try to hide the hair on my chin in the winter.
4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible.
I definitely try to style my hair so that my sideburns are hidden!

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason)
I always shave...none of the other methods are as effective for me.

Shaving only for me! I usually use the Target brand twin blade razors...they have a green rubber handle. I have used the REALLY cheap razors before like the yellow bic razors, and they tear my face apart. I use whatever shaving cream my husband has laying around.

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet?
I've never shaved my arms or my feet, but I do occasionally shave my toes...I haven't cut myself so far.
8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there.
Between my breasts!!
I haven't found anything so far that does this.

10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit?
I've tried them..they don't work at all.

11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it.
It's basically sandpaper..ha ha..very irritating to the skin.

I've tried those, and once again, sandpaper. They don't work for me.
13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc.
Shaving, and shaving alone. It's a little annoying to have to do it everyday, but it has just become part of my daily routine. I'd rather shave my face daily than have long hairs growing. Shaving does tend to leave some stubble, but I can live with it.
14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth?
Hirsutism does affect my love/social/sex life in some ways. I have to make sure that I'm "clean shaven" before I go out anywhere to avoid feeling self-conscious. In the past, it has affected my self esteem, especially when I was a teenager. I have learned to live with it, and it is just a part of my daily life.

15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit?
My husband does know that I have hair, although he tries to deny that he notices it. I shave every single morning unless I'm not going anywhere for the day.

16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life?
I wouldn't say that hirsutism causes a less-fulfilling sex life. Some of the other symptoms of PCOS do for me, such as being overweight...this causes me to have lower self-esteem and therefore makes me more self-conscious and less able to enjoy sex at times.

17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control?
Like I said above, at this point, I'm used to it. I used to worry a lot about the hirsutism, but I don't wonder what things could be like, because I know how things are and I have to get up and move on!
18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse?
Not that I've noticed.

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants?I don't worry about the hair on my arms but it does bother me on my legs

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet?I will shave it if it starts to bother me.

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck? I will wear shirts to cover the hair on my chest. I just started getting it in the last few months

4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible.I try to keep that waxed

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason)Yes I will shave if I do not have time to wax.

6 favourite method of hair removal (besides laser/electrolysis but if youre on it PRAY TELL how its working for you and how long it took to complete the treatments) here are some preferences: sugaring, waxing, threading, plucking, shaving, finishing touch/electronic hair removal blades, nair/cream. also please recommend brands, types, and pros of cons of the ones you like or dislike very strongly.I like the way waxing makes it feel smoother but it hurts a lot. When I shave I will have stuble and I don't like it.

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet?I don't

8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there.I guess since I am a woman I would say removing hair from my face and chest would have to be strange.

9 HOW on EARTH do you get rid of all that tiny black stubble? the kind that looks like pores in your arms or wherever you remove it from? the ones that when you shave or whatever its still there! my legs even kinda look like that bcuz im so pale and then i got these li'l dots except on my legs its pores, on my arms its hair. anyone got any ideas?I just leave it. I don't know how to get rid of it.

10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit?no I have not tried that

11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it.never heard of them

12 anyone had any luck w/ the facial hair buffer, hair off mitten, or the Sally Hansen hair removal kit that includes the "hair wand"??? i dont know what the hair wand is but its called something like that i think, i cant remember but i was and am tempted to try it except that i think its probably going to be something like nair in a tube, or "wand". i just wanna know what it is!never tried it

13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etcI like waxing. It is hot and messy but to me it is quicker and does not smell. .

14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth?It affects me a lot. My husband is ok with it and never makes me feel bad about it. The social part is hard. People will look at me funny. I have had people ask me what is on my face. I think the worst part would have to be my family asking questions that are extremely personal about it and making me feel like I don't fit into THEIR family because of this.

15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit?my husband if fine with it. He never says anything about it. I do not try to keep it perfect all the time unless I am going somewhere or doing something that requires me to be around people that are not used to it.

16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life?No

17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control? For the most part I have come to accept it. I don't like it but it is always going to be there. I do wonder what is would be like to not have to worry about it all the time. I started getting it in high school and that was hard. It does make me depressed but I try to deal with it.

18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse?I have never noticed.

I bought my waxer at Sally's and I use the honey wax. I like it and would recommend it to anyone.

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants?
Don't really get much arm hair and epilate my legs so I don't really mind whether I wear long/short sleeves and pants etc.

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet?
Again - just epilate my legs, don't get much hair on my toes/feet

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck?
I did this for a long time and got sick of it. Sometimes if I can't be bothered with makeup/plucking etc I cover up with a scarf, but I usually make the effort these days

4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible.
I have started wearing my hair down more (on the plus side my boyfriend prefers my hair down!), but whatever I don't pluck, I started growing some of it out rather than shaving it off up to about halfway down ear level and it's just starting to look like regular hair I can sweep behind my ears now :s

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason)
I never shave cos my skin gets irritated. I haven't seen any probs as a result of plucking, in fact I find it grows back slightly finer and sparser but there are lots of people who seem to think damage gets done...I guess it's different for each individual. Though if I'm going away, I epilate my legs properly before I go, and pack some tweezers and a mirror and I'm set for at least a week

I found waxing too messy (though if I have a lot of time on my hands I'll still do it cos the results feel better), depilatory creams too smelly, shaving too sore (again cos it irritates my skin). The only hair removal I do now is underarm, leg/tummy epilating and plucking stray facial hairs with tweezers along with a razor for places like knees and I find it works quite well

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet?
Nope cos I don't shave much. Though having said that, as long as I'm not cold I don't get nicked! (all those goosebumps are just asking for it....)

8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there.
Probably just the sideburn area (not really that strange all things considered)

9 HOW on EARTH do you get rid of all that tiny black stubble? the kind that looks like pores in your arms or wherever you remove it from? the ones that when you shave or whatever its still there! my legs even kinda look like that bcuz im so pale and then i got these li'l dots except on my legs its pores, on my arms its hair. anyone got any ideas?
I have relatively pale skin with dark hair so this problem plagues me too. I epilate so I don't get that horrible stubble-like stuff and I only have to do it once every week or two (rather than shaving every few days) which works out well. I have a lot of that stubble problem on my neck and sideburn area, but that generally gets plucked out and it's fairly coverable with makeup

10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit?
Haven't tried that, but I've used a Silkymit before (sounds similar except it's just like a sandpaper-like pad you use and it feels just like that - sandpaper.) I got a hideous rash after using it once and decided never to go there again :s

11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it.
Not sure, but I'd imagine it wouldn't do me much good cos I'd still get that stubble-look just under the skin

Haven't used any of those but the 'hair off mitten' sounds like that Silkymit I was talking about before

13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc.
Fave and most effective for me is just my Braun epilator (hurt like hell first few times I used it but it's become far less painful, have had to do it less and the hair is growing back finer on my legs)

14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth?
Scale 1-10 is probably these days a 4 (it used to be a 8 but I think I've just gotten 'used' to it...if that's possible). My boyfriend doesn't really notice (and if he does he doesn't say anything), my friends don't notice either. If anything, it's just a bit of a hit to the self-esteem some days....

15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit?
Sometimes I do let it go a bit if I get busy, but it's just become part of my routine. I haven't brought it up with my partner but I'm sure he must notice it. General plan is usually to pluck it all out and if it's a bit red, cover it up with a little bit of powder

16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life?
I used to feel self-conscious, but I think it's was more that I was well overweight AND had hair, now the weight's started to drop off I don't care about the hair so much any more

17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control?
I think I go through phases of wondering what I would be like if I didn't have hair - I used to do it a lot more and I'd get frustrated to the point of bawling my eyes out for a good half hour or so, but as my weight's been dropping it's been a lot more manageable so I guess it's a lot easier to accept plucking a couple of hairs out every couple of days rather than plucking a LOT out every couple of days...

18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse?
No, but it makes epilating hurt more!

Fave method is definitely my Braun epilator (which also doubles as an electric shaver) along with a pair of trusty slant-edged tweezers. If I have to use a regular razor I have a Venus, and if I'm home waxing I use Nads, an Australian waxing product (it smells awesome (apparently you can even eat it cos it's all made from natural fruity stuff etc.. my flatmate's eaten some and says it tastes ok but I can't quite bring myself to do it.....) but it is incredibly sticky.....

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants?
I don't have excessive arm/leg hair...but if I haven't shaved my legs I will cover them up!

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet?
no excess hair there

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck?
no excess hair in those areas

4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible.
I have done this

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason)
really shaving is better? huh. i pluck but if I can't or i'm in a hurry I'll definitely shave!

Plucking and shaving for me...creams make me red and blotchy and I haven't the courage for wax!

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet?
N/A - I don't need to shave those areas

8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there.

I guess the spot between you eyebrow and hairline?

9 HOW on EARTH do you get rid of all that tiny black stubble? the kind that looks like pores in your arms or wherever you remove it from? the ones that when you shave or whatever its still there! my legs even kinda look like that bcuz im so pale and then i got these li'l dots except on my legs its pores, on my arms its hair. anyone got any ideas?
I can sometimes squeeze it out (yeah, I know, gross) or really good foundation...not sure what you could do about your arms?

10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit?
Yup! It actually works too!

11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it.
They work sometimes...you have to pull the skin taught (which is kinda hard to do on parts of the face) and it's like sand paper...it gets rid of the hair but you still get the "stubble" look sometimes

Nope, never heard of it???

13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc.
Favorite? plucking and shaving (some spots are too sensitive to pluck!) I find it gets the hairs!
Least favorite? Creams because they leave my skin blotchy, it never gets all the hair regardless of how long I leave it on for, and it smells aweful!

14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth?
That's a tough one...my husband doesn't really care (he actually never noticed until I told him about it!) so for love & sex live I'd say maybe a 1 (doesn't really affect it)
As for self-esteem/self-worth? probably a 5...It bothers me quite a bit, I worry a lot when I'm out that people can see it.

15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit?
He knows...I try to keep it flawless all the time...I think only once did it get away from me (I was sick). I just don't like it, so I get rid of it!

16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life?
I'd would say NO.

17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control?
I don't know that I've accepted it, I think I've gotten used to it...I sometimes think about when I didn't have excessive hair.

18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse?
You know I've never really noticed! It does seem to grow faster in the summer though.

19 pros & cons of your favourite method/least favourite method. i know ive put this a few times on here probably but i figure that different products may be listed on different areas so you dont have to answer this if you have already and youre going to say the same thing you already said...lol bcuz i dont wanna be a hassle BUT this is more for the last words on any product that is worth knowing about.
plucking and shaving are my chosen methods...

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants? I NEVER wear skirts!! I usually put veet on my arms in summer so I can wear short sleeves otherwise its always long sleeves aswell

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet? Only in winter

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck? Nope

4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible. Yes all the time

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason) I have never shaved my face, I'm too scared, I pluck or use hair removal cream on my face. Have shaved everywhere else though

Ummm none of them? I pluck my face or use Veet wax strips or Nair facial hair removal cream. They are the best wax strips/ hair removal cream IMO. I shave my legs and tummy with Gilette Venus - the one that vibrates with a battery in it. Shaves the best for me, I have coarse hair. I use Veet on my arms If I can afford it which I very rarely can, I get everything waxed

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet? I made my arm bleed last year from shaving it in a rush

8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there. I think my fingers/sides of my hands, and my lower back

9 HOW on EARTH do you get rid of all that tiny black stubble? the kind that looks like pores in your arms or wherever you remove it from? the ones that when you shave or whatever its still there! my legs even kinda look like that bcuz im so pale and then i got these li'l dots except on my legs its pores, on my arms its hair. anyone got any ideas?I wish I knew, I have the same problem

10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit? Never heard of them?

11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it.never heard of them either..

I used "silky mits" once, they are like sandpaper and you "sand" your legs down? It worked ok between waxes but its alot of hard work

13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc. I don't like any of the methods. But if I had to choose I suppose it would have to be a professional wax, at least they can see what they're doing. I hate shaving, it takes so long and my razor gets clogged from all the hair. I have the smell of creams and I have burnt myself many times with it. Facial waxing never removes all the hairs.

14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth?I am ALWAYS self concious about it, ALWAYS. I constantly worry about it, especially when I'm with someone
15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit?Don't have a partner at the moment, but if he did know he never said anything.

16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life?Definitely. I can never relax enough to enjoy myself

17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control? I think I have just come to accept it. If I think about it really hard I do get depressed, and I think it has played a huge part in previous bouts of depression that I've had

18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse? I haven't noticed

Like you I am still searching!

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants? I used to be very self-conscious about my arm hair, but am not anymore. I usually wear pants so I don't have to shave every day.

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet?I definately do. When it's summer time and sandal weather I will shave my toes and the tops of my feet.

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck? Never.

4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible.Nope.

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason)I always shave. I have too much to pluck.

6 favourite method of hair removal (besides laser/electrolysis but if youre on it PRAY TELL how its working for you and how long it took to complete the treatments) here are some preferences: sugaring, waxing, threading, plucking, shaving, finishing touch/electronic hair removal blades, nair/cream. also please recommend brands, types, and pros of cons of the ones you like or dislike very strongly.Just shaving for me.

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet?Of course!

8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there.Around a mole on my wrist.

9 HOW on EARTH do you get rid of all that tiny black stubble? the kind that looks like pores in your arms or wherever you remove it from? the ones that when you shave or whatever its still there! my legs even kinda look like that bcuz im so pale and then i got these li'l dots except on my legs its pores, on my arms its hair. anyone got any ideas?I'm at a loss.

10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit?Nope.

11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it.Had a friend who tried it. You might as well buy sandpaper and rub your face with it.

12 anyone had any luck w/ the facial hair buffer, hair off mitten, or the Sally Hansen hair removal kit that includes the "hair wand"??? i dont know what the hair wand is but its called something like that i think, i cant remember but i was and am tempted to try it except that i think its probably going to be something like nair in a tube, or "wand". i just wanna know what it is!Haven't tried any of the above.

13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc.I just shave everything. But I do like the Magic hair removers for my "nether regions". It smells bad, but lasts for weeks.

14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth?I don't know...it bothers me, but I try not to focus on it.

15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit?My husband has seen me shave it. We will sometimes even shave together. Seach for my post "Those who shave together stay together".

16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life?I see no connection between my hair and my vagina. I don't let it bother me that much.

17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control?Like I said above...I try not to let it bother me that much.

18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse?I haven't noticed that.

Socially it effects me quite a bit, always think people are looking. Doesn't affect my love life, my DH is Wonderful. Defenitely affects self esteem.

15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit? Yes - I'm sure he must know. Though we have NEVER talked about it. (we've been together 12 years!)

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants? I shave the hair on my lower arms and legs; if I had missed a day or two and didn't feel like shaving then I would probably wear long sleeves and/or pants.

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet? I don't have much hair on my feet, I have a few strays on my big toes that I just pluck. Ankle hair I just shave when I shave my legs.

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck? I do not.

4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible. No, but I really don't have an issue with sideburns.

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason) For my own personal reasons, I refuse to shave my face. I would find a way to pluck.

I shave my legs and lower arms and that seems to work just fine for me. For my face, I use Nads on my upper lip and cheeks. I pluck the hairs on my chin and any stray hairs that come in between waxing. Oh, I also go to a salon and have a brazilian wax.

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet? I've knicked myself a couple of times on my arms, luckily it wasn't bad at all and was barely noticeable.

8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there.
I have a single, long, black hair that continues to grow on my ear. It's not in my ear or on the lower lobe, it's about an inch or so up from the lower lobe. If I let it grow, it gets very long! It's pretty funny actually!

I really don't notice any stubble on my arms and I honestly don't pay any attention to the dots on my legs.

10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit? No, I have not. I have been curious but have been a little afraid to try.

11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it. Not sure.

Have not used.

13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc.
For me, waxing my upper lip and cheeks works although the areas don't remain "smooth & hair free" for 6-8 weeks as advertised. haha. Plucking also works best for me on my chin and face area. It is very time consuming but it's what I'm most comfortable doing.

14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth?
Hirsutism does not affect my love life other than I am hesitant to allow dh to touch my chin.
Hirsutism does affect my self-esteem, I'd give it a 6.

15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit?
My dh & I don't talk about it but I know he knows. If he has ever visibly noticed it, he has not said. He knows that I use Nads (I don't think he's entirely sure what I do with it!) and he knows I spend a lot of time plucking but again, not sure he knows what I'm really doing. Recently I had surgery and brought my mirror & tweezers to the hospital with me and he caught me doing some tweezing but nothing was said. I'm unable to shave my legs since surgery so he has been doing that for me and yesterday I also asked him to check my big toes for hairs and pluck any if he saw some. He didn't cringe or act like that was an odd request at all. I think he just loves me for me and doesn't care about all of my 'maintenance'.

16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life? It does not for me.

17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control? I think I have accepted the problem. I have times where I get very sad over it and wish I didn't have to deal with this every day and wish for a day where I can wake up and not worry about plucking chin hairs......but I also know that things could be worse and I try to keep things in perspective. Not easy all of the time but I try to not let it take over my life & emotions.

18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse? I have not noticed.

THANKS! theres 19 questions here.

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants? I don't sweat the hair on my arms and as for my legs I shave but for some reason the Yasmin has made that less of a task. Less hair on legs, same on face? Hmmmm
2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet? no hair there

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck? nope

4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible.
when I don't shave... yes

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason) Yes, if I'm in a hurry and don't have the time
6 favourite method of hair removal (besides laser/electrolysis but if youre on it PRAY TELL how its working for you and how long it took to complete the treatments) here are some preferences: sugaring, waxing, threading, plucking, shaving, finishing touch/electronic hair removal blades, nair/cream. also please recommend brands, types, and pros of cons of the ones you like or dislike very strongly. I prefer to use sugar waxing by Nair and when I run out I use depilatories
7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet?
No

8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there. I guess I would have to say the breast area even though it has been less noticeable since taking yasmin
9 HOW on EARTH do you get rid of all that tiny black stubble? the kind that looks like pores in your arms or wherever you remove it from? the ones that when you shave or whatever its still there! my legs even kinda look like that bcuz im so pale and then i got these li'l dots except on my legs its pores, on my arms its hair. anyone got any ideas? well i don't worry about the legs but for my face I gently pluck them
10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit? I've tried the hair buffers and boy did it hurt. it left me with rug burns.

11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it. They're like sand paper and you rub it around over the hair and the hair is supposed to rub off

Nope

13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc.
Waxing with sugar, less painful and faster. I also Pluck under my chin, i think this is more out of habit because i look for hairs even when there isn't any. I hate that buffer thing because it hurts like hell and leaves burns. i also like using depilatories, it works well for me and last for 7 days.
14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth? I'm less confident and assertive. I have a decent amount of self-eteem but I feel it would be better if the hair was totally gone. i know I'm worthy and loveable that's not the problem. It's more in the form of shyness when I know I could be more assertive.

15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit?
I think he does, although we never talk about it. i do try to keep it flawless because i'm not totally comfortable right now.

16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life? Hmmm, the sex is fulfilling but I do believe it could be way better with a boost of confidence for me.
17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control?
I have accepted it but I do hope that they will find something to get rid of this hair permanently. I don't let anything about PCOS or life keep me in a constant state of depression.

18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse?
hmmm, never truly noticed

19 pros & cons of your favourite method/least favourite method. i know ive put this a few times on here probably but i figure that different products may be listed on different areas so you dont have to answer this if you have already and youre going to say the same thing you already said...lol bcuz i dont wanna be a hassle BUT this is more for the last words on any product that is worth knowing about.

I hope i didn't mess up the layout.

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants? don't worry too much about the arm hair, always put on pants though if I see leg hair

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet? not really an issue

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck? nope

4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible. always try to, but doesn't always work out

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason) absolutely!

6 favourite method of hair removal (besides laser/electrolysis but if youre on it PRAY TELL how its working for you and how long it took to complete the treatments) here are some preferences: sugaring, waxing, threading, plucking, shaving, finishing touch/electronic hair removal blades, nair/cream. also please recommend brands, types, and pros of cons of the ones you like or dislike very strongly. wax- but I hate letting my hair get long enough so I shave

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet? once or twice on my arm-never bad though

8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there. Sides of my hand

I wish there was a way to get rid of it!! never found anything like that for me!

10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit? yep-it worked great the first time, but after that it burned. It took longer for the hair to get removed and you can only use it for so long...

11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it. tried it-never doing it again!

12 anyone had any luck w/ the facial hair buffer, hair off mitten, or the Sally Hansen hair removal kit that includes the "hair wand"??? i dont know what the hair wand is but its called something like that i think, i cant remember but i was and am tempted to try it except that i think its probably going to be something like nair in a tube, or "wand". i just wanna know what it is!
nope
13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc.
I hate shaving! I hate the smell of it and the way it constantly looks like I need to shave because of those little pore like marks
14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth? it doesn't affect my sex life, but it certainly affects my self-esteem. It is hard sometimes to feel desirable when I'm worrying about whether or not I have stubble on my chin/neck

15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit? I never let it go, I hate it that much. my hubby knows though

16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life? nope

17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control? I have accepted it, but I still dream there will be a day when I don't have to have it.

18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse? yes-absolutely

19 pros & cons of your favourite method/least favourite method. i know ive put this a few times on here probably but i figure that different products may be listed on different areas so you dont have to answer this if you have already and youre going to say the same thing you already said...lol bcuz i dont wanna be a hassle BUT this is more for the last words on any product that is worth knowing about.[/quote]

mbuyikian - how does the cold affect the hair growth? ure the first person who has said it does and i notice it but think it mite be psychological. a friend of mine once told me it grows when you get cold but i never knew if thats why i notice it more or if its in my mind.

Epilators are an electrial hair-removal device. They have a small mechanical roller covered in tweezers that pluck hairs out as you roll it along the surface of your skin.

I have a Braun one that doubles as an electric shaver as well (it has two heads that you can interchange)

Here's an example of one:

Oops - and about the leaving stubble, no it doesn't (unless the hairs are too short for it to pull, in which case those get left behind...). It's basically pulling all the hairs out at the roots like waxing and plucking does.
