1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants? I do for my legs mostly. Last night I had very close friends over for a cookout and I had spiky legs and wore shorts. No one cared- not even me, yeah! I love being in my 40's. My arms are SO hairy and I actually like it. I once used NADS (evil product - see below) and took my arm hair off with it. It hurt like hell and my arms looked scary, naked and like chicken legs - eeeew!

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet? Not me - the hair on my toes is light and it doesn't bother me

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck? Not me

4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible.
not me

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason) I shave my face every day. I have way too many hairs to pluck. It would take 1/2 a day and I'd want to jump out a window.

6 favourite method of hair removal (besides laser/electrolysis but if youre on it PRAY TELL how its working for you and how long it took to complete the treatments) here are some preferences: sugaring, waxing, threading, plucking, shaving, finishing touch/electronic hair removal blades, nair/cream. also please recommend brands, types, and pros of cons of the ones you like or dislike very strongly. I shave every day - lower face, chin, neck.

Shaving really doesn't do it for me or make me happy as I shave my face/chin/neck every day.

I recently got a Fotofacial RF treatment (similar to laser). Prior to the first treatment, the doctor told me go see an endo for medication and also put me on Tri Luma cream for my face. I have never been to an endo (was on custom progesterone cream as alternative therapy). The Dr. (he's a plastic surgeon) told me the progesterone cream wouldn't do anything for my hirsutism - go figure - I didn't know that!. I had to go see my new regular doctor anyway and asked about endo/hirsutism etc. and he put me on Met. That Dr. agreed w/Dr. Fotofacial and told me we'd do the endo route if the Met didn't work and also told me no more Progesterone Cream. With just going on Met, the Tri Luma and the one treatment my hair is much less noticeable. Even my friends have noticed. Yippee. I'm going again in 6 weeks for another treatement. So far my hair situation is the best it's ever been. I look at my chin and I don't see "the black shadow" anymore. I still shave every day though - but it's much easier.

I also had done electrolysis (sp?) but that was bDS. When I got pregnant with DS (a minor miracle) my hair got so bad because of hormones, I stopped electrlysis. It wasn't working too well anyway.

I've tried Vaniqua and that was useless and a big waste of money.

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet? Not applicable

8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there. Sometime I shave around my nipples as I get about 8-10 long hairs around them. I don't care my fingers and toes are hairy but the hair isn't dark.

9 HOW on EARTH do you get rid of all that tiny black stubble? the kind that looks like pores in your arms or wherever you remove it from? the ones that when you shave or whatever its still there! my legs even kinda look like that bcuz im so pale and then i got these li'l dots except on my legs its pores, on my arms its hair. anyone got any ideas? see answer to 6 above. For my legs - just a really good razor and some color - a light tan? I live in TX so all I have to do is go outside for a little while each day.

10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit? No - that sounds interesting....

11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it. No - that sounds interesting....

12 anyone had any luck w/ the facial hair buffer, hair off mitten, or the Sally Hansen hair removal kit that includes the "hair wand"??? i dont know what the hair wand is but its called something like that i think, i cant remember but i was and am tempted to try it except that i think its probably going to be something like nair in a tube, or "wand". i just wanna know what it is! Nope

13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc.

Least favorite - in order of unhappiness

Waxing - got my legs waxed the day before my wedding (20 years ago tomorrow!). Was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. Basically I paid some lady $50 to torture me. Had little red dots all over my legs that you could see thru my white hose. Good thing no one but the DH ever saw them! I did have smooth (although unsightly) legs for about 3-4 days. SO not worth it.

Nads - saw the ad on Tv (5 years ago) and bought 3 sets. Two for me and one for my sister who I think has skinny PCOS. Didn't work at all on the chin or the legs. Tried the arms - it worked, mostly - although it hurt like hell and I got some bloody pores from ripping the hair out. As I've noted above, I also didn't like the look - scary white chicken legs with hands attached - eeeew! It's almost like my arms need the hair to even out the fact they're so skinny (the only skinny part on me - sigh). Never sent the NADS to sis - tossed all of it. Sent curses mentally to the creator of such an giant waste of time, agony and money.

Vaniqa - big waste of money

Nair - just plain 'ole doesn't work. Smelled up the bathroom.

Plucking - I used to pluck when I was young (teen to early 20's). I haven't plucked since I had DS - it would just take too long. Plus - when you pluck, you get more in-grown hairs and pimples.

Shaving - this is what I use every day and every other day for the legs. The only thing that works day in and day out.

14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth?

When I was younger it affected me somewhat but to be honest, it got much worse as I got older and especially after I had the DS. I 'm married and DH never mentioned(s) it - so really no effect. Now that I'm in my 40's I'm actually doing something about it and it's just for me and no one else. What a terrific thing too!

15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit?

The longest I will let my facial hair go is maybe a day and 1/2 and that's only if we've had a rough work week and we slug out for a day or so on the weekend and basically stay inside in our pajamas. During the winter I may not shave my legs for days.

16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life? Nope

17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control? The hair thing never made me as sad as the weight thing. Granted, I've been on an anti-depresant for 4-5 years and been in therapy for the same amount of time - and both have really helped. It's taught me not to beat myself up over things I have no control over, to take care of myself and to actually understand and practice what that means. I could go on and on here - LOL.

18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse?
Nope

19 pros & cons of your favourite method/least favourite method. i know ive put this a few times on here probably but i figure that different products may be listed on different areas so you dont have to answer this if you have already and youre going to say the same thing you already said...lol bcuz i dont wanna be a hassle BUT this is more for the last words on any product that is worth knowing about.

I sure wish I'd gone the drug route alot earlier. I'm very impressed with the Met, the Tri Luma and the Foto Facial RF. I'm betting laser would be just as good.

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants? I always wear long pants if I haven't shaved my legs..even at home. I usually don't try to hide my arms ..unless I haven't waxed in a long time, then I'll wear longer sleeves when I go to work.

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet? I usually wear slippers around the house, but I started waxing the little hairs on my toes so I don't mind going barefoot!

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck? I don't wear low cut blouses if I haven't removed the little hairs on my chest.

4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible.
YES! but my sideburns aren't the problem..its the hair on my cheeks.

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason) yes..but not the hair on my face..just by body.

It depends on the part of my body where I am removing the hair..I wax my toes, shave my legs, thighs and bikini area, wax my arms, bleach my face and neck, tweeze my brows and wax my above my lip.

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet? sometimes..but I love the Intuition razor..hardly any nicks!

8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there. my chest

I wish I knew. I don't like wearing shorts, even after I shave because of this.

10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit? no...looks like it would feel like sandpaper!

12 anyone had any luck w/ the facial hair buffer, hair off mitten, or the Sally Hansen hair removal kit that includes the "hair wand"??? i dont know what the hair wand is but its called something like that i think, i cant remember but i was and am tempted to try it except that i think its probably going to be something like nair in a tube, or "wand". i just wanna know what it is! no luck.

13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc. favorite-shaving, bleaching because its easy and quick..I also LOVE Nair roll on WAX (not hair removal CREAM!) for my arms! it is clean, easy to use, removes all the hair, washes off easily and I can do both arms in about 15 minutes! This is great for the chest area too.
Least favorite- Veet, Nair hair removal cream..stinks, does not remove all the hair, burns and the hair grows back fast and thick!

14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth? I was teased horribly when I was a teenager. I'm 30 now and still remember every incident. All of the men I have been involved with have teased my about the "hair" except for my husband. God bless him, he has never made me feel like less of a woman because of it. But I'm to self concious to let him look at my face in the bright sun light..or be intimate with the lights on. Sorry if TMI..but he's a butt man and I never let him touch my behind because I don't want him to feel any of the little hairs. Sometimes I will not take my shirt offbecause I don't want him to feel anything..We can never be "spontaneous " because I always have jump in the shower to shave..(as if he doen't know what I'm doing!) So I would say on a scale from 1-10....it would be a 9!. I wish I could erase the comments that have been made to me by other men so my husband wouldn't suffer for it but...I can't.

15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit? he knows..but has never mentioned it..Its hard to keep it flawless all the time...

16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life? well..its always in the back of my mind..I always feel like my bikini line is too rough or my legs aren't smooth enough. Sometimes I wear thigh high stockings when being intimate..they're sexy and hide stubble!!

17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control? I don't think a day goes by that I don't wish I didn't have this problem..I constantly compare myself to other women that don't suffer from this.

18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse? I feel more stubble when I have goose-bumps.

19 pros & cons of your favourite method/least favourite method. i know ive put this a few times on here probably but i figure that different products may be listed on different areas so you dont have to answer this if you have already and youre going to say the same thing you already said...lol bcuz i dont wanna be a hassle BUT this is more for the last words on any product that is worth knowing about
BCPs do help..I just wish there was a way to control this without the use of drugs.

Have been looking at this survey for a few days deciding whether to reply to it as I am different from the majority of cysters on here as I don't mind my hair, it's part of me it's who I am and to me it hasn't really been unwanted as I know I should have been born male. I have been hairy since about the age of 8. Here goes...

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants?
Nope, only tend to wear long sleeves if it's cold not to cover anything up

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet?
Nope

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck?
Nope, I used to shave my chest when I was attempting to be feminine and straight, but now I don't

4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible.
Nope never done that apart from when I was a kid I have always had short hair as it looks like I have more hair when it is short..lol At the moment I have had a full beard for a week

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason)
Only shave if I am going to see family or into hospital or hospital appts, although today I went to pick up the new lenses for my glasses with full beard and nobody batted an eyelid, and tomorrow I have an appt with my GP and it will be the first time she has seen me with beard. I haven't shaved my mustache since 2004

Either wet shave or occasionally an electric razor, of which I find mens razors the best. I did try Nair etc on my legs and stomach years ago but it hardly took the hair off and it burnt my chest, and other creams just made my hair go curly rather than remove it. Tried waxing and apart from hurting and would take ages it left me looking like I had a bad case of measles. Electric razors the best one I had was Remington sensitive, and I find Braun good razors as well. For wet shave I use a Mens Schick Quattro. I use sensitive skin shaving gel usually with aloe as I find the gel better than foam. The King of Shaves stuff is pretty good as well. I also use Mens after shave balms/moisturiser as I find it less greasy than the womens and I don't have an oily skin so don't like the greasy feeling.

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet?
Nope have never shaved my arms, toes or feet

8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there.
haven't really had any really strange places, had to get my buddy to shave my back/shoulders a couple of times when hair decided it was going to appear there for awhile

No ideas

10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit?
Nope

11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it.
No idea

12 anyone had any luck w/ the facial hair buffer, hair off mitten, or the Sally Hansen hair removal kit that includes the "hair wand"??? i dont know what the hair wand is but its called something like that i think, i cant remember but i was and am tempted to try it except that i think its probably going to be something like nair in a tube, or "wand". i just wanna know what it is!
tried a hair buffer thing about 20 years ago, it didnt remove any hair and left me with a rash

13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc.
Wet shave

14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth?
When I was trying to be feminine it was a pain in the butt shaving everywhere, but it didn't affect my love/social/sex life.. sometimes my self esteem would take a dip but my view is that the people who are staring at you or making comments should look at themselves, they are so up themselves and think that everyone should look like them, when in reality I think it is them who have the low esteem so have to pick on others. Also being hairy hasn't had any affect whatsoever on my love/sex/social life, my last girlfriend loved my masculinity and hairiness

15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit?
used to shave when i used to go out with guys, but not my tummy they never said anything about it, sometimes my legs i would leave again they didnt say anything.. and any of the women i have been out with knew i was hairy.

16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life?
Not at all my hair is one of my erogenous zones...

17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control?
Accepted it a long time ago, it's me and what moron decreed that women can't be hairy.. ok I know many of you don't like it but i have many non pcos friends who have to shave just as much as I would if I shaved, sod the rest of the world we are exceptional people.

18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse?
Nope with me it grows more in the hot weather

19 pros & cons of your favourite method/least favourite method. i know ive put this a few times on here probably but i figure that different products may be listed on different areas so you dont have to answer this if you have already and youre going to say the same thing you already said...lol bcuz i dont wanna be a hassle BUT this is more for the last words on any product that is worth knowing about.

Yeah, I find leaving my legs, pits and nipple-lashes intact is much more sensually rewarding than shaving 'em off ;-> My partner either actually agrees, or is smart enough to say the right things .

The odd little wiry hairs on shoulderblade, cheek, and chest, however, they can go.

I've never minded a proper pelt. (on me or anyone else) but I *hate* scraggly hair on myself.

I'm a tall, strong-featured woman, and have often been mistaken for a male anyway. I don't *think* a full beard would bug me too much. I think I still wouldn't like having my pubic hair patch protruding around my swimwear, though.

But that's probably more sensory than social, in all honesty

Reading the distress in some people's posts really makes me want to go out and strangle whoever made them feel so imperfect just 'cause they're hairy.

I lived in Germany for a couple of years, and they (most of Europe, in fact) have a totally different view of bodies than we do.
They even had some porn hat I liked. Some of it was crap ;-> But some of it is *real*. Real people, real bodies, real(istic) stories. It's a whole genre there that glorifies realism. What a concept.

And I knew some very beautiful and much-desired women over there who had a *lot* more hair than me ;->

It really awakened me to how *stupid* the American hair-and-hygeiene fetish is.

When I went back to the US, I had a very hard time taking any of it seriously.

I'm glad you posted It's good for people to get a different perspective.

Glad my erogenous hair made you ROFLMAO.. so why lie, right..

I am German by birth and several years ago one of the Endo dr's I saw said that even without the raised T level I would have been hairy just by virtue of how much hair covers my body...and asked me what my background was so I said German and he wasn't surprised that I was hairy... see it keeps you warm in the cold winters.. ... my theory is that I am Darwins theory of evolution in reverse and that one day I will wake up in a tree craving bananas and have the ability to swing through the trees like Tarzan on speed...lol

It is the same in the UK as it is in the US regarding women and hair, but as I said it is the minority idiots who think that they are the perfect specimen of womenhood who are the ones who stare or make comments etc.... it's a shame that they don't look in the mirror and actually see how flawed they are.

I worry about posting my views sometimes because most of the cysters on here do find it hard coping with the excess hair and how much it can depress you, and I can understand that...and my views are the exact opposite of what most feel on here and I don't want to offend anyone. I try and give advice to the best of my ability as I have lived with pcos since i was diagnosed back in 81/82... I came to an understanding with my body and mind and accepted that hey it's me so i am hairy. many of you on here have loving husbands, boyfriends and girlfriends and they love you for who you are... I don't have a problem with my hair growth and today had my review at my dr's surgery and I went with a full beard, nobody batted an eyelid, ok I look like a guy anyway but even when my dr called out my name nobody in the waiting room took any notice that a masculine body with a beard got up in reply to a female name... I will however shave next weekend before my dad comes down for a few days, he knows I keep my mustache but I don't think he would cope with me with a beard...

I have a similar problem in other communities regarding weight issues.
I have a genuine difficulty with keeping weight *on*, and it would be nice to have some support now and then.

From the skinny-end, my pesepctive on weight and body image is a little different from a lot of people on weight loss forums (obviously) but sometimes it is useful and helpful to others to share that.

I don't judge my weight issues by appearance or by how anyone else sees me or by a chart or anything else. I judge my weight by how I feel. And sometimes I try to get that concept across to other people... sometimes it's well received and sometimes not ;->

But I don't think a message of self-acceptance is ever misplaced even if the "self" involved is a bit outside the usual parameters of the group at hand.

Life hands us enough cnallenges. Fighting my body's natural tendencies if I don't *have* to just seems like picking a losing battle ;->

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants?

I don't wear long-sleaves, I don't think I have any more hair on my arms than normal. But, I do wear long pants simply because I don't shave my legs. I haven't shaved my legs in a couple of years.

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet?

I have hair on my toes, but not on my ankles and feet. So, no socks if I'm wearing sandals. (one, sandals and socks equals yuck; and two, I look stupid with jeans and sandals on, but oh well

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck?

I don't wear anything low-cut, like crop neck shirts. So, no, no turtlenecks, I have huge breasts, turtlenecks makes them look bigger.

4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible.

I don't have enough hair to try to conceal my sideburns.

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason)

I just take one of those little face shavers and shave my face every few days or so (I'm mostly a shut-in). I don't wax, or shave any other part of my body.

None, just shave my face every few days.

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet?

I don't shave my arms, toes or feet.

8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair?

When I get nervous, I take my tweezers and pluck the hair on, and between and on the sides of my breasts off.

I don't. Haven't bothered with shaving for years. I do hate those things on my breasts. When I first started getting hair on places other than my face, legs, stomach, pubic area and ass, people used to ask me "what was wrong with my breasts." How embarrassing.

14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth?

I don't know about sex, I've never had it and don't particularly want to. I never had a social life either. No one has said anything about my facial hair to my face, but I have seen people staring, and I'm sure people did talk about it.

17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control?

I don't know. I was a social outcast even before the hair popped up on my face. I do wonder if I would have had a better life if my mother and I lived around people that looked like us (we live in a mostly white, rural area). It's really hard to say, I've been depressed and felt helpless/hopeless since I was six-seven years old. :|

18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse?

I can't tell really.

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants?
- I've never bothered with covering my arms. They are extremely hairy but for some reason quite light coloured. Its freezing cold where I live right now so I'm always wearing pants but during the summer I'll only wear skirts if i've epilated in the previous few days

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet?
- No, I've never considered that. Maybe because epilating is so effective?

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck? - I dont think I've ever worn a turtleneck but often if I'm wearing a hoodie I'll pull it up a bit higher and pull the hood forward with the excuse I'm cold.

4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible.
- quite often when I was heavier but my facial hair hasn't been as much of an issue since i've lost weight. Or maybe my confidence is just higher.

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason)
- Nope never, I know I'll regret it.

- my epilator! I'm slowly getting brave enough to do more than just my legs and armpits. I'm not sure about brands, I'd assume they're all the same but Braun always comes highly recommended.

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet?
- I gave up shaving a couple of years ago.

8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there.
- Chest hair.

- I dont shave because I hate that 'shadow' effect.

10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit?
- nope

11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it.
- ?

12 anyone had any luck w/ the facial hair buffer, hair off mitten, or the Sally Hansen hair removal kit that includes the "hair wand"??? i dont know what the hair wand is but its called something like that i think, i cant remember but i was and am tempted to try it except that i think its probably going to be something like nair in a tube, or "wand". i just wanna know what it is!
- ?

13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc.
- least effective - hair removal creams. Maybe there are heavy duty ones out there but all the ones I've used aren't designed for those of us with PCOS. If they brought out one that was specifically for men then I guess it might work.
- most effective - my epilator & my brazilian wax (although the wax is expensive to maintain so I save it for special occasions)

14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth?
- I would definately have more confidence in approaching guys but its never affected my self-esteem. All my boyfriends/sexual partners have just accepted that my hair is part of me.

15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit?
- my partner knows everything and anything about me. But I've always been a very open and 'TMI' type of person.

16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life?
- definately not. There's better things to be thinking about and concentrating on once you're into the act!

17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control?
- I have been affected by depression but it wasn't linked to hair. It was linked to the feeling of being completely unhealthy and out of control with regards fixing my health.

18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse?
- I live in Dunedin, the south island of New Zealand and I can confidently say that I haven't noticed a different. I think that if you are in a warmer climate you would generally have a bit of a tan and the hair would be less noticable.

- God Bless my Epilator!

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants?
My arms aren't very hairy, so I don't need to hide them. If my legs aren't shaved (it rarely happens) I wear long skirts or trousers.

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet?
-I don' know.

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck? - I dont have chest hair and neck hair.

4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible.
I wear my hair down although my sideburns aren't very bad. They are light and fine.

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? .
I pluck my chin and shave my legs
6 favourite method of hair removal (besides laser/electrolysis but if youre on it PRAY TELL how its working for you and how long it took to complete the treatments) here are some preferences: sugaring, waxing, threading, plucking, shaving, finishing touch/electronic hair removal blades, nair/cream. also please recommend brands, types, and pros of cons of the ones you like or dislike very strongly.
- I pluck my chin and shave my legs because it's quick and comfortable. If the hair isn't long I can do it in a couple of minutes.

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their
arms or toes or feet?
I have no problems with that.
-What is the strangest place that you have to remove hair? .
-Chin hair. I know many women have it but it's not very feminine. Otherwise I am a very feminine woman, nobody would think that I could grow a beard.

-Exfoliating helps a bit with that. I also use a small qantity of make up.

10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit?
-I am from Romania. They don't sell that kind of stuff here.

11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it.
-I've never seen them in our stores.

- least effective - hair removal creams. most effective -shaving (not for the face).I tried waxing and epilators, too. What I didn't like about them was the fact that you have to let your hair reach a certain length before you can remove it again and I can't bear being hairy. When the hairs start to surface your skin, it's very itchy and you get a lot of bumps and it's impossible to shave or epilate, your skin looks awful. If I shave my legs I can have smooth skin whenever I want to.(And I want them smooth all the time)

14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth?
-
I am considered to be a very attractive woman so I have no problems with self- esteem but I am annoyed that I have to spend a lot of time removing hair. I would never leave the house with a stubbly chin or hairy legs. I am a highschool teacher and it would be very embarrassing if teenage boys noticed that I have chin hair. I think I would die of shame.
Sometimes I wonder why I was cursed with this. It's a paradox of nature to be a pretty woman with a beard.

16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life?
-No, but that's only because I try to keep my skin look and feel perfect. Otherwise I could't be relaxed.17.have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control?
-It's difficult to accept the chin hair, I can deal with the rest.
18 Cold doesn't seem to make a difference.

I've been reading alot on these posts and find it quite amazing that I am not the 'only' one with this problem! It started for me when I was 13-14. I was riding home on the school bus and this boy pointed out to everyone on the bus that I had a hairy chin. It was bad enough that I was a fat kid all my life never mind all this happening! From that time on it just got worse and it still is. I am now 28 and it's still a major depressing annoyance.

For me my facial hair is thick, harsh and dark and I am light skinned. I have a little upper-lip hair but it is my chin and below and my jaw. My arms aren't that hairy and I do get a little on my toes and the top of my foot which is easy to take care of. However, I have excess pubic hair and on my buttocks (sorry if this is inappropriate to mention! - but it is a problem for me!) That part I dont know how to get rid of.

For my face I've tried creams and shaving, waxing (doesn't work right for my face) and I've spend hundreds of dollars on laser treatment. Laser is great for the 2 weeks after you have it done cuz your face is smooth but it just comes back and was getting way too expensive.

Also does anyone get dark belly hair too? Oh yeah, I also have dark patched skin in the armpit area which is why I don't wear short sleeved shirts - anyone else have that????

Is the braun epilator (sp?) the same as shaving/plucking or is it much better? If I pluck with tweezers i get stubble the next day and it grows back in so harshly and very dark until the hair grows out again( which is still thick and dark). And shaving I get stubble within 8 hours again.

So what is the difference between the Braun, a razor, or tweezers?

Does anyone have my similar problem? I'd like to know!

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants? I shave every day - arms and legs.

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet? I also shave the tops of my feet and toes

3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck? That gets shaved too...every day

4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible. Sideburns get shaved everyday too.

5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason) Shaving seems to be the only thing that works for me.

Shaving with a triple blade razor seems to be the best.

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet? Only if I am in a hurry, if I take my time, I love the results.

8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there. From the backs of my hands and my fingers - all 10!

Shaving everyday helps me keep that under control. It seems that if I can shave everyday, my skin doesn't get as red or bumpy.

10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit? No, they look uncomfortable...

11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it. Ditto above

13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc. Laser didn't work for me...the hair grew back. Creams burn ly skin...just easier to shave it all. Once you get used to it you can get pretty fast, I can shave it all and wash/condition my hair in about 20 minutes in the shower in the morning.

14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth? I don't let it anymore. Hubby knows and is okay with it all. Plus he likes my smooth skin...freshly shaven...

15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit? Yes he knows and is really good about it. It doesn't bother him if I am lazy for a day...just after our daughter was born I felt really bad and didn't shave everyday - showered, but that was about it.

16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life? No, it is all good!

17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control? I have accepted that I have PCOS, but I wouldn't miss it if it was gone!

18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse? No...but if I get goose-bumps from a scary movie or something, my arms feel more sensitive.

The only thing about this is that with all the products out there, all you can do is try them and see for yourself what will work for you. I hate shave creams...they make my skin really red, but I love goat milk soap on my face when I shave...I like how silky my skin feels. I also like that I can get it unscented to get rid of the irritation from the fragrance.

lol, it probably is more psychological than anything else. I never noticed it until a friend brought it up in high school-she hated getting goose bumps she said because the cold made her hair grow more...I think i just fell into that theory

I really don't worry about the hair on my arms, but if I don't feel like shaving my legs I will wear pants.

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet?
I don't have any hair on my ankles or feet but I get 1or 2 stray hairs on my big toe that I have to pluck.

no
