i have to say i love the pic !!!!
im also glad that there are some people who can actually embrace it because im just not one of them. and instead of not caring i care way too much and its a blow to my state of mind. i wish i could just leave it alone and let it be but i get so disheartened even when its barely noticeable and looks just like a blackhead. that really bothers me. i feel like i cant even go out sometimes!
especially now that i have some painful ugly acne. not the worst case of it but bad enough for me.
thanks everyone who posted here ! ! ! good knowing that im not the only one in this stupid boat!!!

2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet? I tend to shave any foot or toe hairs that are on my feet before wearing shoes that show my feet.
3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck? I've not really had to deal with that.
4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible. I shave my sideburns daily.
5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason) I've never waxed and nair burns my skin. I'd spend all day in the bathroom if I plucked. I shave because it's efficient and smoother for me.
6 favourite method of hair removal (besides laser/electrolysis but if youre on it PRAY TELL how its working for you and how long it took to complete the treatments) here are some preferences: sugaring, waxing, threading, plucking, shaving, finishing touch/electronic hair removal blades, nair/cream. also please recommend brands, types, and pros of cons of the ones you like or dislike very strongly. I shave. It's cheap and my skin doesn't react badly to it. I hate that I have to shave but I just deal with it rather than fret about it.
7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet? I don't usually knick myself on my toes or feet. I have to be careful on my chin, ankles, knees.
8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there. I carefully shave the hairs around my nipples. Unfortunately, one time I nicked my nipple on the day I was having my annual gyn appointment. That hurt so bad and it bled forever.
9 HOW on EARTH do you get rid of all that tiny black stubble? the kind that looks like pores in your arms or wherever you remove it from? the ones that when you shave or whatever its still there! my legs even kinda look like that bcuz im so pale and then i got these li'l dots except on my legs its pores, on my arms its hair. anyone got any ideas? I don't know how to get rid of every bit of the stubble.
10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit?no
11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it.never used one
12 anyone had any luck w/ the facial hair buffer, hair off mitten, or the Sally Hansen hair removal kit that includes the "hair wand"??? i dont know what the hair wand is but its called something like that i think, i cant remember but i was and am tempted to try it except that i think its probably going to be something like nair in a tube, or "wand". i just wanna know what it is!never used one
13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc.Nair burns my skin, Nads doesn't work, plucking taking forever, so I'm stuck shaving since it's economical and a bit quicker that other ways.
14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth?No it doesn't effect my love, social, or sex life. I'm a little paranoid if I think someone other than DH might notice and comment about excessive hair.
15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit?DH does know. I try to keep the hairs on my face, pits, nipples, and tummy in check. I tend to let some of the other go for a bit.
16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life? no effect
17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control?I feel like I've come to accept the problem. It's annoying but I've got to deal with it. Life's too short to worry too much about that.
18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse?I haven't really noticed.

1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants? Never. Always too hot to be able to wear long sleeves and long pants.
2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet? Always wear sandles - again - so hot all the time I try my best to stay cool.
3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck? don't have this problem
4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible. I wear my hair straight down all the time.
5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason) yes i do - more so for the sake of others not having to look at it. and thinking they are staring at it make me concerned
6 favourite method of hair removal (besides laser/electrolysis but if youre on it PRAY TELL how its working for you and how long it took to complete the treatments) here are some preferences: sugaring, waxing, threading, plucking, shaving, finishing touch/electronic hair removal blades, nair/cream. also please recommend brands, types, and pros of cons of the ones you like or dislike very strongly. i tweeze or shave, but also found a shaver called personal touch that really seemed good - it is a dry shaver. started vaniqa though now and only on it for a month and not using it always like I should, but i can tell it is working. if you are going to use a regular razor - try to use a different one for legs and face and keep the face one new and sharp at all times.
7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet? fortunately it never happened to me
8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? around my nipples
9 HOW on EARTH do you get rid of all that tiny black stubble? the kind that looks like pores in your arms or wherever you remove it from? the ones that when you shave or whatever its still there! anyone got any ideas? painful but stand in front of a strong magnifying mirror and take your fingernails and force those hairs out of the pores. almost treating it like you would a pimple. but do it when you have a day or half a day without others being around. your face/legs could get really sore from it. i try not to do it more than once a month but it helps.
10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit? never tried
11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it. never tried it
12 anyone had any luck w/ the facial hair buffer, hair off mitten, or the Sally Hansen hair removal kit that includes the "hair wand"??? i dont know what the hair wand is but its called something like that i think, i cant remember but i was and am tempted to try it except that i think its probably going to be something like nair in a tube, or "wand". i just wanna know what it is! never tried it
13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc. pretty much covered this in above answers
14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth? i think the biggest problem is being close to a man/woman knowing that it is there. makes me shy away when someone tries to touch my face. have learned how to have "hooker sex" (i.e. sex without kissing or intimate touching/breathing/etc if he/she is close enough to see if I haven't tended to the hairs). I constantly find myself appearing standoffish or prudish even if I really like someone.
15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit? i will let it go for a few days until it starts getting really noticeable or i have big business appointments. if i am seeing my partner, definitely have to be clean looking and smooth feeling no matter how long it has been sine the last time. they do not know of the hair. only my family and a few close friends do.
16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life? not necessarily, but yes because of the loss of ability to be fully intimate with someone without holding back.
17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control? you will always wonder how it could have been but you have to learn to accept that this is what you have to deal with and you have to accept it and live your live the most fulfilling way you can regardless. only you can let it control your life to the point of bringing you down. take control, take ownership, live strong.
18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse? i live where it gets fairly cold and fairly warm. i do seem to have to tend to things more in the winter. but i don't know if it is necessarily the weather making it grow more, or if it is just I have less to keep me preoccupied and so i notice it more.
19 pros & cons of your favourite method/least favourite method. i know ive put this a few times on here probably but i figure that different products may be listed on different areas so you dont have to answer this if you have already and youre going to say the same thing you already said...lol bcuz i dont wanna be a hassle BUT this is more for the last words on any product that is worth knowing about. already mentioned above

My Mood: Points: 12,756.20 Bank: 42,441.30 Total Points: 55,197.50 | I'm a newbie, glad to have found this forum. 1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants? I don't tend to worry about the hair on my legs or arms, it doesn't to me at least seem any more than normal
2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet? lol I probably should but I don't, I'm actually shocked to see this question because I just thought it was genetics.
3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck? I hate turtlenecks and don't use scarves.
4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible. I have started to wear my hair down more.
5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason) I haven't shaved yet, I'm too afraid it will grow in more coarse.
I wax and pluck any random hairs still remainging.
7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet? I don't do it ongoingly but I have gotten knicked by shaving my toes and the top of my feet.
8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? Um to me the strangest is my "sideburns" 9 HOW on EARTH do you get rid of all that tiny black stubble? the kind that looks like pores in your arms or wherever you remove it from? the ones that when you shave or whatever its still there! my legs even kinda look like that bcuz im so pale and then i got these li'l dots except on my legs its pores, on my arms its hair. anyone got any ideas? I break out the tweezers and call my husband in to help if I can't get it lol.
10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit? No I'm relatively new to PCOS... I've never really noticed it as being a problem until I got facial hair.
11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? I don't know but you let me know if it works!.
Haven't tried them
13 favourite method? most effective? least favourite? least effective? please give details as to why, if you can. i.e. the smell, the residue, painful/leaves burns, too much preparation time/doesnt remove small/long hairs effectively, doesnt remove hair as its supposed to, etc. Waxing and plucking some, I refuse to shave.
14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth? I would say 2 maybe, my husband is very open and helpful. He even helps me on occasion if I have trouble removing a stubborn hair. He's been great. Socially, I'm really embarassed. I tell my good friends but it makes me want to crawl into a cave.
15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit? He sure does.
16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life? No not really
17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control? I really wish that I could just be well "normal"... I really hate being 23 and having facial hair. I joked about it a lot at first just to cover up how embarassed I was about it. Now I'm starting to accept it and can't wait till I have the money for electrolysis.
18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse? I hope not!
My least favorite was the wax wand. I guess I could never get the wax to melt enough. Waxing is effective but sometimes I get a little red and irritated from it, it also makes me break out under my chin.

Points: 765.41 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 765.41 | 1 when hair is visible on your arms or legs, how many of you wear long sleeves w/ pants? I always wear short sleeve shirts. However, I mostly wear pants because I haven't found an effective way of getting rid of the hair on my legs. 2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet? I just shave those areas. 3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck? I live in Florida so that's not an option. 4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible. I like the way my hair looks when it's down better than when it's up so I usually wear it down anyway. I also shave my sideburns so wearing my hair up isn't a problem. 5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason) I've done it before but I try not to. Ok. I haven't tried sugaring. I've tried waxing (at home) but could only do a couple of patches on my lower leg before I stopped. What I liked about waxing is that it took the hair out from the root so you couldn't see a "shadow" under my skin. What I didn't like is that it was sort of messy and it wouldn't take out all of the hair in one spot. I haven't tried threading. I pluck my chin which works out because it always leaves my chin feeling really smooth. My current method of hair removal is shaving. I hate how it leaves a shadow under my skin but I figure that since I live in Florida, a tan would make it not so noticeable. Also, I can't shave two or three days in a row because I get rashes. So usually I'll use an electric razor in between days to touch up. I have also tried an epilator which was extremely effective.. for a while. After a few days, my skin got really itchy and I got a lot of ingrown hairs (even though I exfoliated regularly). It did a good job of removing the hair and not leaving a shadow. Also, unlike shaving, I only had to do it about once a week. I've tried the creams but they didn't take out any hair. 7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet? Only if I'm going really fast or if it's a brand new blade. 8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there. Under my bellybutton (which is actually the biggest pain in the butt in terms of hair removal for me). On a scale of 0-10, I'd say it's a 9. I try to relate myself to other women and it's tough knowing that hair removal is a daily thing for me whereas in most women, it's not even an issue. Sometimes I just want to be able to go on vacation and have FUN instead of worrying about when I'm going to have time to remove the excess hair. 15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit? I've definitely always wondering about how things would be different if I was "normal". As a teenager, hirsutism shouldn't get in the way of me having a good time but unfortunately, it does. 18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse? When I get goosebumps, the hair on my legs grows so I'd say yes. I'd say that the most effective method of hair removal for me personally has been my Braun epilator. If I could find a way to get rid of the ingrown hairs, I'd have found something that actually works. |

I don't remove the hair on my arms, so I where whatever. Usually I just take a few minutes for hair removal if I want to wear shorts/a skirt.
2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet?
I don't, but I do remove the hair on my toes.
3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck?
My chest hair isn't that visible (or so I tell myself)
4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible.
With my hair cut, they kind of blend in (or so I hope.) I can't stand hair in my face.
5 if you cant wax, nair or pluck for a few days, do you give in to the urge to shave? (actually i heard plucking is worse and shaving is better but i feel safer plucking for some odd reason)
I try not to, but sometimes I do--my chin nothing works but plucking because the hair is so coarse, but that takes forever, so sometimes I do shave which I always regret because then it looks worse.
I would wax everywhere if I could afford it. Instead, I use veet on my legs, shave my underarms, and have my eyebrows, upper lip waxed.
7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet?
Not since I stopped shaving there.
8 whats the strangest place that you have to remove hair? i dont know if its strange but my fingers...i actually woulda said the tops of my feet or a couple other things except that i saw some people who said they too have to remove the hair from there.
I don't know if it's strange, but the one I hate the most is that I get a unibrow if I don't have it waxed.
Veet--much better than shaving. Waxing would probably help too, if you can afford it.
10 anyone tried those hair buffers by con-air or any of that kinda stuff? the ones where you replace those pads on it? like a microderm abrasion kit?
no
11 WHAT IS A FACIAL HAIR BUFFER? they have those facial hair buffers at the stores but i dont know if they really work like they say they do and HOW do they work? thats why im hesitant to buy it.
I have no idea.
12 anyone had any luck w/ the facial hair buffer, hair off mitten, or the Sally Hansen hair removal kit that includes the "hair wand"??? i dont know what the hair wand is but its called something like that i think, i cant remember but i was and am tempted to try it except that i think its probably going to be something like nair in a tube, or "wand". i just wanna know what it is!
no

Like I said, if I could, I'd wax everything professionally. Veet is my new favorite product--it smells terrible, but I can remove hair only twice a week (instead of daily) and it works wonderfully, with no razor burn, ingrown hairs, etc.
14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth?
not really at all any more. Self worth, it has some effect, less since I've gotten better at hair removal.
15 does your partner know you have hair? do you cover/remove it and try to keep it flawless all the time or do you sometimes let it go for a bit?
Yep, he's been around since pre-diagnosis. Especially in the winter, I do let things go a bit.
16 does hirsutism cause a less-fullfilling sex life?
no
17 have you come to accept the problem or do you constantly find yourself wondering how things would be different if you DIDNT have it? does it cause a constant state of depression/loss of control?
It's annoying, but I've pretty much accepted it.
18 does the cold seem to make hair growth worse?
I never really noticed one way or the other.
Veet--Pro: cheap, leaves skin feeling great, not upset. Cons: doesn't last that long, smells terrible, takes a while to use.
Waxing: Pro: works wonderfully, fairly quick given that it lasts so long, Con: expensive, painful (although that diminishes with time, I swear I'm destroying nerves), sometimes the person doing it makes unpleasant comments about the amount of hair (this only happened once, but it was VERY upsetting)
Tweezing: Pro: only thing that works on my chin (I haven't tried lazering, but I've tried just about everything else), cheap. Con: very time consuming, kind of hurts, leaves skin irritated.

-my hair is always visable in my arms, usually i bleach but its so much hassle! i dont shave because i did it once when i was very young
and the haor gre thicker and sharper so i dont shave. i cant understand how all of you can shave. i wax my legs, upper lips and i do alser on my neck and side burns.
if i dont wax or shave my legs, i wear pants. i dont cover my arm hair. its embarassing though.my friend noticed how hairy i was. =(
2 how many people wear socks constantly to hide the hair around the ankle & toes & feet?
i dont..i dont really have hair there. one or 2 little hair maybe
3 does anyone wear turtlenecks/scarves to hide hair on the chest or neck?
nope..thank god i dont have hair on my chest. but my neck is long..it goes from my head to the side of my neck..but i laser them now..still growing a bit..
4 or comb your hair around your face so that sideburns arent visible.

7 does anyone else get knicked from shaving their arms or toes or feet?

FAVE MEHTOD : LASER but i hate that it grows back after while
LEAST FAVOURITE: BLEACHING plus it goes away n ur back to hairy..
i dont mind waxing though..not very painful for me maybe coz im used to it..shaving is ok for my armpits but it causes ingrowth and makes ur hair thicker
14 how does hirsutism affect your love/social/sex life? and on a scale of 0-10 (or OFF THE SCALE!!!) how would you say that the hirsutism affects your self-esteem/self-worth?
