Hi, Im new here and I am curious for those of you with dark/coarse facial hair that have to shave everyday.
I am growing very tired of cuting myself with those darn cheapy razors.. do any of you use the electric expensive ones? If so, hows it working for you and which one do you have?
I'd like to know this too. I have to shave everyday and am always knicking myself. I want to have it lasered off, but it is going to take a while for me to be able to afford that.
$10 at Walgreens. I have been shaving my feet since I was a teen, then needed to start shaving my belly, etc. It's such a pain! This little razor is cheap, but never leaves cuts. It shaves close. Cut off the string it hangs by or it will get get in the way. It takes batteries, but doesn't go through them quickly. I change batteries in it about once a month, even with shaving my legs. The blades have not dulled either.
Well, I use hot wax. It's not as painful as it sounds, it's quick and it lasts several days. After several uses, I notice that the hair is weaker an less apparent.

Tried it ALL.. best way to go, in my opinion is a pretty good electric shaver. It may feel weird at first, but isn't it WAY better than being hairy?! WAYYY better, if you ask me! Lol. Then again, people don't touch my face a lot, so perhaps that's why I like it. By the end of the day, I feel a bit of stubble, I hate to call it, but again ain't no one touchin' my face on a daily basis. It's fast, easy and effective, though. Only takes a minute every morning. I've tried an epilator (like tweezee or tweeze, don't know what it's called), but my face is very sensitive and I broke out from the plucking of the epilator. Also quite painful if you have a lot of hair. Tried waxing, but really broke out every time, BADLY. I don't like regular razors because it affects my skin also. Bleaching makes your hair thicker, as I've found, and doesn't really get rid of it. Depilatories work well, but can harm your skin if you have even a little sensitivity. They last at least 2 or 3 days, though, but would only recommend it for chin or neck or maybe sideburns. Hmm.. what else. Those little trimmers are only good for a few hairs. Electrolysis is SO painful and pretty slow, not to mention not that cheap. Laser is great (there's a very painful kind and a not very painful kind, i've tried both and recommend the NOT painful one lol). However, its a bit expensive and if your hormones are out of wack, don't even waste the money. It's your hormones that are causing the hair to grow, so it's not going to go away permanently if your hormones are still unbalanced. Been there, done that. Anywho, it's the electric shave for me..

Agree with PP: Laser is a God-send. For me, even if hormones are out of whack. Did it while TTC and now after delivery. Not permanent but slows it down a great deal. While PG, couldn't get laser so used an epilator. I think it is a Panasonic. It's just like plucking--just quicker and can get a lot of hair (I had a lot!). If I were to pluck every day, it probably would have taken me an hour.

I'm a great enthusiast for the Norelco electric razors from the men's range.
I found that by far the most difficult thing about shaving was the mental trauma of shaving my face at the start -- it seemed such a "male" thing to be doing. But once I accepted the fact that what I had was a moustache the same as males have, and started to think of it as such, that was really the end of the problem. I simply deal with it in the same way as a guy would. In any case, the fact is that my hormones are not in the normal female range and so other methods of dealing with the moustache would not be all that effective.
When I eventually started to develop beard growth on my chin it wasn't really traumatic at all -- more of a natural progression.
I reckon with Norelcos (known as Philishaves outside the US and increasingly branded as Philips even in the US) it pays to buy near the top of the range. The model numbers are confusing and change very frequently. Expensive but very good. Completely non-irritant. But beware of the fact that they've one problem -- they're useless on hair longer than about 1/16". They're designed for facial hair and for nothing longer than stubble and they're brilliant at that.
I use the Remington silk epilator on my face. But there are some really coarse thick hair on my neck that grow back in like 1-2 days. So I have to shave almost every day under my chin and neck. The rest of the face - cheeks are fine for about 10 days.
