Default Hives

Hi Eva,

I dont think I am allergic to anything as my diet has not changed in the last year. Only thing different is that I have a daughter. The hives started about 8 weeks after giving birth. I thought they were down to tiredness and stress (my daught had craniosynostosis) but over a year later they are still coming up every day.

I did see a specialist but he put it down to stress too.

Just interested to see if any others with PCOS are suffering with the same.

Vic

I wonder if there is something that you are allergic to now that you have had the baby. Your body goes through so many changes. Plus as you get older your body changes. You can develop allergies later.

I know EXACTLY what you are going through!! I am suffering from the same thing. It has been a little over 1 year that I have been dealing with chronic hives. It started as just a couple bumps on my thighs. Then, quickly it migrated all over my body including my face. At times it has been a living hell. Nothing can relieve the itching, at least in my case. My legs are a mess from all the scars from the bumps and itching. I also suffered from facial swelling. Even my hands and feet swelled. Doctors put me on steroids and it didn't work. Finally one of the Dr's suggested I cut out my BCP. Well, what a difference that made! I still get a few itchy bumps but nothing like what it was. Now I just break out with a few hives on my thighs and a couple on my forearms. I was able to ween myself off the anti histamines to only 1 pill every other day. But I am very very careful with everything I eat too. No nuts, berries, artificial sweeteners. No perfume and I only use hyperallergenic detergent and soap. Hang in there! Things will get better. You are in my thoughts!!!

Thanks for your message funny girl ! Sorry for being a bit dumb but what is BCP ?? I must admit I have started to watch what I eat but there does not seem to be any form of pattern to the hives breaking out.

Take care

Vicki

If the antihistamine you are one doesn't work I would try another. Zyrtec seems to do well for hives. I would also try steroids. You can also try using an OTC lotion called Sarna. I used the lotion when I was dealing with an all over body rash for a month. I does leave a cooling feeling on your skin and smells like Vicks. But, it does work well.

My son is 13 and just developed a nut allergy. He's been allergic to apricots since he started on solid foods. Almonds are related to apricots and he had a trip to the ER via ambulance just a few weeks ago. He now carries an Epi-pen with him. Just proves that allergies can pop up at any time. We had no idea he would have such a bad reaction to just tasting marzipan.

Birth Control Pill can cause hives. The drug facts say to see your doctor if you notice hives after starting a new kind of BCP. I have had hives twice. Both times I had taken the flu vaccine a week before, and then cleaned up something that might contain mold. Once it was wet leaves, and the other time I steamed cleaned my bathtub area. I figure the flu shot somehow jump started the histamines in my body. Mine were itchy raised red welts that clustered near my joints and moved from place to place.

My neighbour was totally fine with cats up until she had her daughter. Then she suddenly became allergic to them. Her daughter was allergic also, although only for the first year. My neighbour still is allergic to cat 6 years on, and has to have antihistemine injections to control her allergies. She comes out in hives, and her face swells up. She doesn't have PCOS, but I'm just relating this to the changes your body goes through while pregnant.

HTH,
