Question Hives?

I am wondering if anyone else has any problem with hives. I started getting hives a couple of months ago. I have decided that it isn't anything in my environment and wondered if it was my hormones or something. DOes anyone else have an experience like this?

What kind of hives are they? Where and when do you get them?

I get them once a day. THey really don't always come at a certain time (sometimes in the morning and sometimes at night). The appear on my arms and legs and sometimes my face. If I take an anti-histamine they go away within an hour or so.

It sounds like an allergy to something to me, but I'm not an expert (just a person with a lot of allergies). I have had hives randomly from all kinds of things, including shoes, fabric on some furniture, and some foods cause that for me. Allergies evolve and change over time, so it's worth getting checked out.

A couple summers ago I had a really bad spell of Hives two different times. Like my whole body broke out, palms and soles of my feet were swollen, I had to go to the ER both times. The doctor *thought* it might be an NSAID allergy, but nothing was ever decided on it. He gave me Decadron to take if I start to feel an attack coming on (usually starts out on my arms) and that has taken care of the problem. But yes....I've had weird spells of Hives as well.

I hive off an on without any known triggers mostly on arms and chest. I also have seasonal allergies, allergic to shellfish and penn. but not iodine. (Iodine is the commonality between the two.) ...just very strange overall. The more I read posts like these the more convinced I becoem that PCOS is part of a larger overall autoimmune disorder.

Lightbulb itchy itchy itchy

Hey there , i get this something terriable but i know they also tend to be chronic if i am stressed so in that sense they are kind of like hives but having seen my consultant today she has dismissed them as anything to do with the pcos. she also dismissed my scalp problem too even though there is sufficient evidence to suggest a link. I find that a surgical wash ran in a tepid bath helps to make them go away than if you leave them to clear up....if your anything like me you probably scratch them in your sleep withour realising!
happy trying x

Default HIVES, me too!!!!

I thought I was the only one!!!! My hives are really bad at times and they just pop up at any time. I could be just laying in bed or playing rough with my husband. Have you been told there is a link with hives and pcos and what do you do to relieve the itching and irritation?

My son has had a serious case of hives. I took him to the ER and then to his regular doc..

There is nothing they can do at the doctor's office that you can't get over the counter.

There is such a thing as an H1 (histamine) and an H2 blocker.

H1 can be found in Benadryl. If oral Benadryl won't work for you, try the topical Benadryl. My son's doc said it's the exact same thing.

H2 is Generic Name: ranitidine or Zantac over the counter.

My son's hives would not clear up after 1.5 weeks of an H1 blocker so we added doses of the H2 blocker and it cleared up after about 3 days.

Good luck. I worry that my son will have autoimmune issues.....He has so many of the symptoms on this site!

I have found the surgical wash thing in the bath helps me as it seems to kill off the irritant thing on the surface of the skin that makes you want to scratch. i have tried piriton, benadryl, allereze, and other own brand anti histamine tablets and cream but none of them give the instant relief you need for these things as it is the whole area around the core that also goes red solid and swollen too. to my knowledge there isnt a strong enough antihistamine over the counter as the above take 3-4 weeks of taking to have an effect and i dont want to take them everyday just in case they come up. once i ended up in hospital and they gave me a histamine jab in my bum which stopped them after 2 hours but that was when they first started about 2 years ago. if i get an attack now i carry a cooling witch hazel gel in my hand bag and jump in the bath when i get home. most important though is that i cut my nails as soon as they come up because i do scratch in my sleep!

Well it started in 94 for me... I would get hives head to toe and benadryl would knock me out for 3 days but it helped... I was in the ER a bunch of times as they were literally everywhere... I had hived on & off with no relation to anything for about 8 (yes EIGHT) years. Then things would trigger them... going into a pool even if it wasn't that cold, obviously allergens but even locked in a room where is knew i was safe I woudlbreak out. If had no rhyme or reasoning. I did allergy testing to reveal many allergie but none that were causing my hives. After seeing a few doctors it was just hives with no explanation.

After I had my 1st son, I dont randomly get them.. no if a cat licks me or a dog brushes up against me or I lie on a wool rug, I break out in the site but not all over.

I hope it just comes and goes for you.. it was really bad for me for when.. I took nearly a semester off in college b/c I wa sa head to toe hive!
