Default hkgrl7 - quick question

I recently joined Essential Baby. I was reading the GD support thread, there is a user there with the same username and as it is unusual, I was wondering if it was you?

When I saw it, it took me a while to remember where I had seen it and ta da, I remembered Soul Cysters.

If it isn't you, I am going to be very embarrassed *lol*

Nah I wouldn't worry about the name change...you are still you right *lol*.

I do have GD, although the Dr's at the hospital think that sometime between my son being born and this pg I have actually developed Type II. I failed the GTT (full 2 hour) at less than 9 weeks pg and failed it quite spectacularly too I might add. I started on insulin at 10 weeks....oh well, time will tell.

How are you doing....you just GD or Type II also, because I notice we are only about a week apart ..

gotta run, the 2 year old is having a melt down *sigh*

Well I have PCOS (obviously!) and insulin resistance so my endo decided that I should have the glucose tolerance test at 12 & 26 weeks. It came up positive at 12 weeks as expected so here I am!! I've just started testing which isn't as bad as I thought it would be and so far so good. They did tell me that even though I may be able to control it with diet now, I most likely won't be able to as the pregnancy continues because I had it so early on...

I did notice we're only about 1 week apart. How are you feeling? I've just started to feel a bit of movement which is exciting!

Type 2 runs in my family so I will probably need to deal with that at some point so I guess it's good I'm getting used to it now! How is it going with taking insulin? I'm a bit nervous about the idea of injecting myself when the time comes..of course you do what you have to but it certainly takes some getting used to.

Your LO is adorable by the way. I love that picture, it's great!

Thanks for the compliment on Sam. He is very cute (yeah I am biased *l*) and most days we will keep him. Occasionally have threatened to put him on ebay or in a cardboard box at the side of the road with a sign reading "free to good home"...but we figure we waited so long for him (more than 5 years ttc) to give him up that easily!!

I am feeling pretty good, and to be honest with you, the insulin really helps that. Please don't be nervous about it. The actual injections are nothing (um, unless you hit a small nerve or blood vessel, then it stings a little and a small bruise - which I have 2 of right now), the finger pricks hurt more than the injections. Once I knew I had failed the gtt, I actually was looking forward to the insulin because when I was pg with Sam it made me feel so much better and made it easier to keep my numbers down. If you have any questions/concerns etc if and when the time comes, please don't hesitate to ask me.

My Mum has Type II, but both my sister and I had GD in previous pg, so with the PCOS etc I figured I was a shoe-in this time too *lol*.

How are you feeling? Are you having any m/s still or gone already? Mine actually pretty much disappeared right around the time we lost Baby B.....the only "clue" really (in hindsight) that something was wrong. The second Tri energy boost seems to have kicked in too, which means my house is now a lot cleaner and tidier than it was a month or so ago!!

Sorry to have made this all about me (isn't it always *grin*). I am in Brisbane by the way, so if you are anywhere close, maybe a coffee sometime!!

Going to call it a night...talk more soon

take care

Hi Linda,

LOL about Sam. 5 years is a long time ttc...I have to admit that we feel extremely blessed that I was able to get pregnant so quickly (1st month off bcp) but I put it all down to metformin. They said I may never be able to get pregnant. For me, it has been amazing and I'm still taking 2,000 mg and I guess that will continue until I start insulin later on.
I worry about taking it during pregnancy but my endo says it's fine and I'm better off on it than off so what can I say to that...

I am feeling really good actually. My morning sickness (or all day sickness I should say) stopped at around 10-11 weeks which was great! I'm VERY tired most of the time though but I think that's because I have low iron..supplements should help with that.

Glad to know that insulin shots aren't bad. You know when I found out I had GD, I thought, I'm never going to be able to do this because I'm just not good with medical things. It's been fine much to my surprise!

I just read your signature about baby B (sorry I'm a bit oblivious sometimes). I'm so sorry to hear about that..it must be difficult. I'm glad everything is going well with baby A now.

I live in Sydney but if your even down here or I'm up in Brisbane, we'll do coffee!

We're moving this weekend so I have to pack more..Ahhhhh! Can't wait until it's over!

Ooohh I love metformin. This is actually my 4th (1st m/c @ 5wks - prob low progesterone, but I didn't know about that then), then Sam, then earlier this year I had a blighted ovum and then this pg and Metformin is all I have ever used !!! I swear by that stuff!! My GP I was seeing didn't want me to stay on it, and to be honest I was worried it would mask GD if it showed up (seeing you though, don't think that is an issue is it ??). I was on progesterone though, because I had that tested with Sam and the Dr expected me to loose him, it was that low. So BFP = progesterone pessaries around here *l*.

Thank you about Baby B. It was a shock to find out we were having two, then to have seen them both 12 days before the NT scan, doing well etc, then having the NT scan and being no sign of B was an even bigger shock......still not sure I am fully dealing with it, you know...sort of pushing it to the back of my mind and will deal with it when I have to..

Enough about me, how is the packing going? I hate moving, and after moving across the Pacific ocean TWICE, I told DH if he wanted to go back to Canada, he would be doing it on his own *lol* (he is Canadian). Don't push yourself too hard with packing and make sure you take plenty of breaks ..(yeah yeah...you know that already and I need to stop being a mother hen!!)

Apparently we are going to be in Gosford in March (weekend of the 16th) for a few days....probably as close to Sydney as I am going to get for quite some time. I don't know how far that would be for you (I could look at a map hey *l*) but maybe we can set something up?

I just realised the title of this thread, and not really a "quick question" anymore *l*

HI! I tried posting the other day and then Telstra cut the internet to hook it up to the new apartment so here was my post!

I love metformin too! I feel like such a strange person because I'm alway SO pro metformin and I think people think I'm a bit strange!! I know it doesn't work for everyone but my dr. says it works for about 90% of women with PCOS so I feel it's my responsibility to recommend it, LOL.

Different doctors view met and pregnancy differently. My old OB wouldn't have let me stay on after the first trimester but this endo it VERY pro met which is good I guess. I thought that it would help prevent GD! Nope...When I had the GTT they told me to stop the met 2 days before so I guess it showed up that way? It's interesting to because this morning I ate breakfast (muesli and milk) and forgot to take the met until about 45 minutes after I ate. When I tested, I was at 8.1! I had the same breakfast the day before but took my met on time and had a reading of 4.9 so I think it really does help..

I can appreciate that you are having trouble dealing/coping with the loss of baby B. That's traumatic and you need to give yourself time to take it in and grieve, which is to be expected.

Moving is terrible. I'm taking a break now! We moved down from Hong Kong in April 2007 and our container with all of our personal belongings was stolen in Sydney. Horrible experience..DP's baby pictures and everything from his childhood were in it and everything. It was really sad. Where is Canada is your DH from? Both DP and I grew up in New York/Connecticut area in the US (DP is actually Aussie by decent but born and raised in the US)

I would definitely have to look at a map. I'm ashamed to say I don't even know where Gosford is!!! I made DP splurge on a car with a navigation system when we moved down here b/c I figured I would be completely lost without one! I was right too..
