I am also in Atlanta. I will give her a call. What treatment has she done for you? I'm curious. My doctor just gave me Metformin and sent me on my way. I think because he's a man, he just doesn't understand.
Any advice you can give me about your doctor would be great.
I, along with GA Sister are both curious abt your experiences w/ Dr. Dawson. (I'm actually familiar-more like aware) of her. I visited her office when she was downtown right by the hospital-before she more to Baltimore Row. Are you actively ttc?
Dr. Dawson does not believe in offering or suggesting pills as the first line of treatment. The only meds that she suggested was a progesteone cream called ProGest which can be purchased @ a health food store like Return to Eden or Rainbow Grocery. She knows the names of a few stores to get a good vitamin reggie. She also does, which isn't covered by insurance, is vitamin screening to identify the vitamins that your body needs. Her most recommeded treatment is diet and exercise. Eliminating most meat from your diet...if not at least consume organic meat. She also suggests, 5-10 servings of veggis mostly greens or yellows and lastly some form of meditation or prayer. She believes the mind helps in healing the body. The changes are just as noticable as med changes. I've taken Medformin in the past only to be too sick to move...so no more meds for me...except HBP meds until my weight is lower and I change jobs.

Dr. Dawson is one of the most thorough physicians that I've visited. I have been to what's deemed as Atlanta's specialist in IVF and reproductive health -Dr. Mark Perlow and was very turned off by him.
Dr. Dawson is NOT a warm and fuzzy type of person but she's thorough and I can appreciate that. She works with the patient's lifestyle and history along with her expertise to come up with a workable plan. I love that she's not trying to push meds. No, I am not TTC. She may be able to give suggestions but she no longer does OB work just GYN.
I see her as well as an Endo, Scott Issacs. He's somewhat of a med pusher but stand firm and he will back off. He's big on diet and encourages his patient's to use his program. It seems very support but since I do not live in that area, I chose not to attend. If I still lived over there, I would. He has a nutritionist on site to help with nutrition options if that's what you need. One note, he LOVES to take blood tests...so if your insurance doesn't cover that, it could become costly. He will run every test known to man.

Reginia, did you ever pick up a copy of his book from Amazon? It's really good.

Hello,
I just read some of the info on the link, and this statement caught my attention: "Dr. Dawson is board certified in holistic medicine, as well as obstetrics and gynecology (one of the first such physicians in the state of Georgia)."
I think that if many physicians were certified in both holistic medicine and obstetrics and gynecology they could offer us much more treatment options and a more well rounded approach to dealing with PCOS.
I wonder if any such doctors exist in Canada ? If not, why ?
Kat, I actually read pieces of it each time I am in the office. After a few more visits I should be finished. LOL. He has a few in the waiting area and in the exam rooms, so I just read away while there. (So cheap, I know).

Paola, I am sure there has to be such doctors in Canada. My PCP is also board certified in holistic care and "regular" meds. I did a search for such doctors for my area and found these wonder ladies. If I ever move from the area I would probably fly back annually for an appointment. They are not pill pushers and I love that.

That is exactly who I'm looking for....what kind of search did you do ?
There is a website to find doctors in Ontario, but all they do is list the doctor's name and location, and so I'm not sure what search I should even be doing.

Dear Regiina, So nice to see another atlanta cyster on this forum. Your experience with Dr Perloe mirrors mine. Any issue I ever have gets funneled to his nurse who promptly returns calls but I find her a bit dismissive. I have been on metformin for about a year and half now, and have improved on all fronts greatly. I am grateful to be even started on the met because my whole life I bounced around from doctors who did not dx my pcos. However, the effects of met being able to regulate menses seems to have worn off slowly. I get no empathy from Perloe's office only an offer to start me on Progesterone- pending a blood test.
For this reason, I am considering going to Issacs for another opinion. I dont want to stop metformin, it has helped me greatly even though I dont fit the classic picture of PCOS (i am a thin cyster I guess). In light of my dilemma, I have issues with low libido and HORRIBLE pms before my period.
In your experience, do you think I should go the holistic gyn next or issacs? If your answer is both I would do that as well. I am all for blood tests if they help him understand my body better. I am happy with any information you can give me.. thanks!!
