I don't know about the rest of you ladies, but my throat is smaller than normal and I struggle to swallow certain pills that are large in size, especially if they aren't coated. I just opened my first bottle of Metformin to start tonight and am floored! These suckers are HUGE!! Do they come in any other format or just big?? This is going to be difficult for me...

I wonder if they come in different sizes, because it never occurred to me that the pills are big. Then again, I can swallow several pills at once without water, so I guess I'm not one to know, lol.

I'm envious!! I have to swallow each pill I take with a huge gulp to get it down. I was so thankful that the Clomid is so tiny, and now these are like horse pills for me. Oh well... bottoms up!!!!!!

try to break it in half and swallow each half at a time with each gulp. See if that helps. I agree... they are pretty darn big!!

I thought about that, but the instructions say not to do that. Plus, I've tried that before with other pills and it actually makes it more difficult because it creates a jagged edge on the pill... so it scratches more.

Do you have the XR ones? If so then yes.. do NOT break them. If not then it should be ok as long as you're taking both halfs at the same time....

Extended Release... this type of met releases medication over time, so if you break them, the medication will release much faster than it should.

Think metformin is smaller, round, coated tablets and Glucophage SR (slow release) is the huge uncoated buggers. I cant get on with the normal metformin. I have to take the SR version but i too struggle to swallow them!
I have the same problem, I have to take Fortamet (it costs $160 a month before insurance vs. generic at $4)!!! Boo on that, but the pills are much smaller, round and coated. I'll pay the extra money to be able to take the medication.

I don't have any problems taking them, but the xr metformin is kind of a big pill. I'm also taking Rainbow Light Just Once Prenatal vitamins, and THOSE are huge. They're almost TWICE the size of the xr metformin. I do have a hard time swallowing them... maybe the metformin are just easier by comparison. ;-)
