Default at-home waxing

I've only ever tried at-home waxing once, and it was a completely failed experiment (whichever kit I got didn't melt very well and even then it didn't stick to the hair at all!)

But I really want to try again - mainly, around my bikini line (nothing tooo crazy, I'll still use magic cream/razor in the most "intimate" areas, but around my thighs and under my belly button, it'd be wonderful) and my armpits (that hair grows crazy fast, and my skin gets irritated from the 1-2x a day shaving). Everywhere else, I'm doing pretty well with razors and magic cream.

So I have two questions:

1) does anyone have any brand recommendations for this?
2) and tips? I'm especially nervous about my armpits because I tried to nair them once and DAMN it hurt!!! I couldn't wear deodorant for 2 days!
3) is this feasible to do at home or should I go to a pro for the first time? I'm pretty cheap so I'd like to not do that, but I will if you guys think it's the best idea

Have you considered an epilator? Cheap, easy, effective.

I've been using Nads 'pre-waxed strips' for my bikini line and I love it. They're way, waaaaay better than Nads in a jar. They remove coarse and finer hairs and leave no irritation afterwards.

I second the epilator. I use the Braun Silk Epil in that area (not in the most personal spots, but on top, sides, thighs). I waxed prior to that and used Surgi Brazillian. It comes with a little oil that keeps the wax from sticking to the skin in that area. It really does help.

Armpit hair...ugh. Armpit hair is like the cockroach of body hairs. Those little suckers can survive anything. I would suggest getting a pro to do them the first time, and then doing frequent touch-ups at home to maintain. The initial rip is misery. The hair in that area (at least for me) is so thick and dense. It hurt terribly the first time when all the hair was out. Now I maintain about once a week with the epilator. It still doesn't feel that great, but it's much better than that first time with the wax.

Not laser. Be sure to ask about this area when you go in for your upcoming consultation!

hmmm, maybe I will look into an Epilator. I was afraid that it would hurt way more than waxing, but someone else just started a thread about it and it sounds like it's not much worse. My mom loves hers, but I've always been so wary.

btw I love your description of armpit hair being like a cockroach! Had me LOL!

moom wax is the best wax i have ever tried. It is better then salon wax and makes the legs very smooth and hair grow back fine. It is onyl when you shave again it grows back thick.

I use Parissa Wax Strips and they are pretty effective. Make sure you warm them up first, rub them a lot when they are on, and rip them off quickly. I waxed my armpits a while back and it hurt way too much — I'd get them done professionally the first two or three times til the hair things out, then I'd attempt it myself.

I just use the Sally Hansen Lavender wax, and it works well. Its the only thing that will rip out armpit hair. And the ladies are right- the first armpit pull is agonizing- but its worth it! Having smooth armpits is heavenly!!

I tried an epilator and it flat out hurt worse than waxing, and only pulled maybe 10% of the hairs with each pass. Granted, my technique was probably bad as it was my first time, but I'll stick with the wax.
