Thank heavens I have one thing to cross off my list! We received our homestudy in the mail yesterday and sent it off to USCIS today. So here we sit...waiting for our fingerprinting appointment.
So happy the ball is rolling!
Anyone else have updates?

I won't have an update for another week but mine will be that we're travelling up to Boston in April or May (Date to be Determined by Chris' travelling to Germany for work) to meet w/ CAWLI!
And I filled out my passport info & made sure Chris' had enough pages & hadn't expired!

dna -- so you don't have to be the correct age to begin the process? that's what i'm understanding from your post... is that correct?
of course, DH and I's problem is the length of our marriage, not our ages, and there doesn't seem to be any flexibility on that in the programs that I've looked at so far.

Traci--Maybe I can meet you when you come to CAWLI??? I"m only about an hour away and we could come to the office too--they love to see the girls anyway and you could meet Emily (and maybe Jess depending on when you come if she's not in school).
That would be neat!
Tariana--good luck in your decision making process--I know it can get so frustrating. If you can hold out till 29.5 y/o you can start the homestudy process for China. It's a WONDERFUL program!! I'm a little biased, I know!

Well, we just got married a month ago, so that will be Feb. 2007 before we can start work on adoption anyway -- at least with any of the coutries I've read about that are available in my state.
DH is also hopefully starting nursing school in August. If he does get in in August, which we're not sure of, it will be at LEAST August 2006 -- or August 2007 if he can't get in this year -- before we'll be making enough money to afford a child.
It just seems so far away. I hate the idea of being so old before we even get started with the process -- and by the time we get done, I'll almost certainly be over 30 -- and that was my internal "deadline" for having kids. I'm going to have to revise that, but it breaks my heart.
I'm thrilled for everyone that has kids and thrilled for everyone who's successfully gotten through the adoption journey. Really, I am. It's just going to be so hard the next few years, to see moms everywhere with their children and know that it should be me, and that it *could* be me if there weren't so many rules and regulations.
Sorry to go on the big rant, and your daughter is beautiful! DH and I are very interested in Asian adoption -- not Korea because of the weight issues unless they change in the next couple years, most likely not China because you have to be older and DH is almost two years younger than me -- another two year delay if we wait for him to be 30. But perhaps some other country in Asia?
We can hope, anyway. At this point that's about all we've got.

Of course didn't I get an email today saying we need to send a new birth certificate in for my DH?! Figures! So here we go--another glitch--hopefully one that won't take too long to resolve. We sent in the same BC we had when we went through this last time and they told me that CHina has gotten stricter and want an extended form. Sheesh. One more thing to drive me nutty!
Lisa--I don't know when we'll have all our forms sent to China but I was hoping for May. If it's May then we may have a referral in November--same timeframe as it was for Emily! I'm just outside of Worcester so about an hour west of Brookline.
Traci--Definitely keep me posted! You can let Chris know I'm not a crazy person or anything. Just ask CAWLI--I bet they'll vouch for me! Lol

That's good to know that we'll need the extended form BC's. How old can they be? Could we get them in April/May while we're up there (well, mine at least since I was born in MA) or is that too soon? (I know I should be asking this in the China Adoption thread but since you were talking about them here, figured I'd ask
I know exactly where Worchester is, I used to have an old b/f that lived out there (shhh....don't tell Chris!). LOL, I don't think Chris thinks you're crazy, I think he thinks I'm crazy!:p
Emily is such a doll! I love her outfit & even Chris said she was cute (which sounded completely funny coming from him!)
We're making some progress! I have the app for my passport & should be going to get it started in a few weeks. We're also flying to Boston April 5th - 9th for the orientation meeting April 6th & to turn in our app! Still working on someone to do our homestudy which I'm finding is difficult...most go through the agency that they use but since we can't I have to find another agency to do it that's non-profit.
It's pretty funny outright lying to our families as to why we're travelling to Boston b/c we don't want them to know yet... We told my family that we were coming up to see old friends that we hadn't seen in years & we're telling IL's that we're going up to see my family! It was also quite funny trying to get info out of my mom for my passport app w/o telling her I was getting a passport!

Tari, you make yourself sound like at 35 you should be in a nursing home waiting for your grandkids to come. LOL
My mother had me 19 years later than my older sister. She was 37 when she had me.
I would much rather be 37 and adopting a child than 37 and having a child.
This way, you can skip the pregnancy and the misery and heartache and fear, etc, and go straight to the good stuff.
Not saying that pregnancy is all heartache and misery, but at 37 years old, or even 35 for that matter, there's all those extra tests, etc that you have to take.
Many people are waiting until they're older to have kids...it's perfectly fine.
Just don't make yourself feel old before your time.
