I have been on it for 6 or 7 weeks now and have lost 17 pounds. Am very happy with the results thusfar and haven't had the urge to cheat (ok I had Thai 3 times but I blame that on work)
I am heading to the Diabetic clinic today to see what my #'s are from last time I was there (before starting this) just curious if anyone else is doing it. (I searched but ?)

Haven't tried it but googled it quick and it looks interesting. Do they tailor the diet to your specific hormone levels and then tweak as they change? What types/how much of things are you eating? Are you getting your levels checked more regularly for the diet itself?

I would love to know more about the hormone diet. All of my hormones are out of whack and I am struggling with this daily. I have zero energy and sleep much of the day. Is it just a diet to follow or are there supplements to take as well? Thanks for the information.
Dna, are you doing the strength workout they recommend, too?
Quote:
From The Hormone Diet website:
Our philosophy is simple - keep it short and high intensity, use a moderate to heavy amount of weight (without compromising form) and recruit as many muscle groups as possible during each session. You must also consume the right foods before and after your workouts to maximize it’s hormonal benefits.
The end results you can expect from this style of training are:
* a workout that offers the best results esthetically - if you want to love the way you look in the mirror, this is the workout for you
* improved insulin balance, which leads to loss of fat around the “love handles”, back of the arms, lower cholesterol, better blood sugar balance, lower blood pressure and anti-aging
* reduction in cortisol and avoidance of the stress associated with over-exercising
* improved balance of the sex and anti-stress hormones in men and women (estrogen, testosterone and DHEA), which offers improved fat burning, motivation, sex drive and anti-aging effects
* maximized growth hormone - the main hormone involved in muscle and bone tissue growth, repair and antiaging

I am not doing the strength excersizes but I do walk about 30 mins a day if not more.
I eat a protein shake for breakfast, so Mango, Strawberries, 1/2 banana 1 cup of water, ground flax seeds and flax oil and a scoop of protein powder. or Kashi cereal with soy milk or eggs and toast.
For lunch its generally a salad with tuna or chicken and their homemade balsamic dressing or a pita with something delicious inside.
For dinner its turkey, fish, chicken, basmati rice and a huge serving of vegetables.
I dont know why I have found it so tailored to me or why I havent found the urge to cheat overwhelming. After the week or so on detox everything else just fell into place.
After going to the clinic to get my levels my blood sugars are still a bit high at 6.8 but thats becuz i am supposed to be taking my metformin *oops* but my bad cholestoral went from 7.5 to 5.7
I am not taking any extra supplements as I am a horrible pill taker and always forget but they recommend a few in the book that would probly help out the weight loss more.
I guess after I write this I see I could be doing better but I still recommend it. I used to eat 2 pieces of toast for breakfast with peanut butter, take away for lunch like a hamburger/fries/large pop, then a few chocolate bars and chips in the afternoon and then junk again for dinner. It was a terrible cycle and I always felt like poo.
I believe its along the same lines as the IR diet and PCOS diet really if you break it down. Its no white sugars, no white flours and as Clean as you can get it .
Now I have rambled

The strength work appears to be a major part of the program because of its impact on hormones. Why have you opted not to do it?
From the website regarding their strength portion:
Quote:
* improved insulin balance, which leads to loss of fat around the “love handles”, back of the arms, lower cholesterol, better blood sugar balance, lower blood pressure and anti-aging
* reduction in cortisol and avoidance of the stress associated with over-exercising
* improved balance of the sex and anti-stress hormones in men and women (estrogen, testosterone and DHEA), which offers improved fat burning, motivation, sex drive and anti-aging effects
* maximized growth hormone - the main hormone involved in muscle and bone tissue growth, repair and antiaging
but after reading what you pulled out I see maybe I shouldnt have skipped the excersize portion of the book ! lol
will be checking it out, doing it and getting back to you
