When the lord above decides to bring my period on, I have horrible cramps. OMG it hurts so bad. I just feel like curling up in an egg position and stay there until they go away. I haven't found anything to make them go away, but sometimes I put a heating pad across my mid-section and lay down for a while. That seems to ease the pain some. I also take like 3 Advil.
Have you tried taking Midol? My mom used to take those, and she said it helped.
Good luck, and I'm sorry you hurt so bad.

I wasn't diagnosed until I was in my early 30's but have endured excruciating, debilitating cramps since I was 12 years old. I feel your pain, literally!
I had a boyfriend once happen to be unlucky enough to be there when the cramps started and he said, "Damn, hon - those aren't cramps, those are contractions!"
I have a running perscription from my doctor for Naproxin and Darvocet. Even that doesn't take the pain away, but it makes me not care that it hurts so much and then I'm able to sleep.
I too have abosolutly excrusiating cramps....they make me nausious and I also cry when they won't stop - it doesn't matter if I lie down or walk round.
I find that hot water bottles help a little and if they get really really bad, I just get into a hot bath - that seems to help.
I take Ibeprophean (spelling?) for the pain - in the uk I have found that Anadin Extra Ibeprophean has helped with me.
Also try and sleep it off as best as you can...I know its hard to...try sitting in a comftable chair instead of lying down...
thanks everyone. i am on neproxin and it easies the pain just a lil. its good to know that i am not the only one. my mom is calling my doctor tomorrow to make srue that it is not a cyst. i had one when it was first diagnosed and they took care of it. a friend of mine has ovarian problems as well, though they are not pcos, she is making sure that i get to the doctor asap. thanks everyone. i will talk to you guys soon! take care, blessings all.

While it's always bad, the pain seems to be worse every other month, and radiates from my right side. When I was diagnosed, my right ovary had several small cysts (where the poly cystic in PCOS comes from, nothin' gets by this cyster I tell ya!). I'm guessing when I'm supposed to be ovulating from the right ovary, which doesn't work, is when I suffer the most.
My right ovary is the one that gets the big cysts that get out of control and requries surgery. Though my GYN reports that both my ovary have tiny little cysts all over them. Did both yours have tiny little cysts or just one?
Is there a prevelance in the right ovary having more and/or worst cysts then the left cyst?
That's an interesting question. I'd like to know where most cysters cysts are or which side hurts worse, left or right. Maybe someone could do a poll on it (I have no idea how).
It's been 5 years ago now, and I can't remember more than being told my right ovary had several small cysts. My left may have been clear or not had as many - can't recall now.
Just seems coincidental that my right was notable enough for the ultrasound tech to mention and that's where I have most of my pain come from.
whenever i have pain, it is usually on my left side. my right side has little to no pain besides maybe a 'normal' cramp every once in a while. mainly it is my left side that makes me cry. it too is the one i had a cyst on when i was first diagnosed. thanks guys... hear from you all soon. have a good day!

Because my cramps were so bad i was taking 1600 mg of ibuprofen every 4 hours around the clock in order to get some relief, my doctor prescribed Bextra. It works on the same idea as celebrex, that is to say, it only blocks the stuff that causes the pain, and doesn't mess up your tummy..... you might ask your doctor about it.

I get those horrible cramps, though not every month. When I ge them I just take excedrin and grab the bean bag. I actually have 2 different ones, one work well for sitting and the other for lying down. The one for lying down has some kind of sand in it and is long (used for around the neck), I just heat it up and lay with it on my ab area. The other is square made with feed corn and smells great. It also had bee heated and lays great accross my lap when I am just sitting. Also, sometimes I take a nap with them and I feel a little better when I wake.
Mine also get so bad that I get nausea. Infact I actually throw up on the occassion, which makes it feel better. I feel that way for 2-3 days and it sucks. I had heard that some women use those heat patches, but they are too costly for me.
Also, some nice herbal tea helps with the cramps and nausea and I am sure I saw one for PMS and Menstral cramps. I don't remember what is in them, I think raspberry leaf is one ingredient. They are in the natural section at the grocery store.
So days, nothing works, but most of the time one of the above helps tremendously.

Hi guys...I'm new here, and like you, one of my biggest concerns is HORRIBLE cramps...here's what works for me...
The day that I start my period, I take Excedrin migraine...for cramps. I know that sounds silly, but it really works. I work in a pharmacy, and my boss told me about this...she's my new best friend. I have started taking 2 Excedrin migraine as soon as I wake up until my period stops...I can't say that the cramps are completely gone, but they are much better. Also, the little heat patches that stick to the inside of your panties are a godsend. I usually use them days 1-3 as a precaution. Luckily, my cramps usually lessen each day..except for this last month, which was just wierd in every way......because of length of period, horrible acne, faster facial hair growth and severity of cramps, my boss said that I probably had a cyst this month...the kicker is that no doctor in this town will listen to me, and I haven't been diagnosed.
Hope this helps!!!!
Carissa
btw...2 tampons...YUCK
