I have come to the realization that some people believe that if you are overweight and have PCOS that maybe you should not have children. At least that is what my MD has made me believe is her opinion. Especially when at my first D/A I was told that she wasn't comfortable treating me unless I had a miscarriage. Which just to let you know I did on 12-30-08 at 9 weeks. After she put me back on BCP's because she stated she didn't want anymore unplanned pregnancies out of me (this was planned). I feel like maybe I should have tried to find a new MD after that D/A because who knows if she was really giving me all the treatment I needed. I was in uncharted territory being this was my first pregnancy. I just feel like I was treated unfairly about being pregnant. There are many women who have babies that are overweight and have PCOS so why am I the exception. I have no other health issues, nothing. For God sake I freaking got pregnant after 2 months of trying with no help from medications. That in its self is a miracle because I thought that was the biggest hurdle us women faced with PCOS and I have already overcome it. Now I have to worry about being able to sustain a pregnancy but I do believe that if I had been taking the Metformin I probably would still be pregnant now. I don't know sometimes I feel like we are all alone in this fight against PCOS and these MD's don't even realize how hard it is. The just say lose weight, I would if I could. I just would really like to have a MD that cared and knew about the condition rather than thinking that I am some fat woman that overeats and doesn't workout. Which is not the case normally. Since my miscarriage almost 3 weeks ago I really have no motivation to do anything, but I guess that is to be expected. All I know is that sometimes I really hate MD's and people especially when the don't understand the condition but they throw out there opinions like they will work for us. Ugh.
I think you should change doctors as well. If you got pregnant w/o medication, I would question the need for metformin during your next pregnancy, but I would also have my progesterone tested to make sure it isn't too low to maintain pregnancy.

I am obese, and out of my ob/gyn and my RE neither has ever said anything about my weight or chances of conception/miscarriage.
You need to find someone who is going to help you. If you feel like you should be on Metformin, find a doc who will work with you. Maybe a gyn who specializes, or has basic knowledge even, of PCOS. Many ob/gyn's prescribe it...
(I can not stand fat-o-phobes. I had a regular doctor like that once... dropped her like a hot potato.)
(*hugs*) Sorry the doc was such a jerk.

Sorry about your loss. You definitely need to change doctors ASAP. There is no reason why an overweight woman can't have a successful pregnancy even with PCOS. It was wrong of your doctor to imply such. You were very fortunate to get pregnant so quickly without any medication, that I would question the need for Metformin. I agree with a PP about checking you progesterone if you get pregnant again. I conceived naturally and lost that pregnancy, my progesterone level was extremely low (only 3 and usually you would like to see levels of at least 10). I have talked to other PCOS women I know personally and have heard similar stories of m/c. These women, myself included, needed progesterone supplements to sustain early pregnancies until the placenta takes over at about 11 or 12 weeks.
Find a new doctor who is going to respect you and be willing to help you. Not one who is going to put you on BCP to "prevent unplanned pregnancies!" Good luck!
