Question how about unyielding dry skin and dizzy spells?

I have most of the usual symptoms of PCOS--irregular periods (made better with my medication), acne, thinning hair, hair along my jawline, weight gain (but now i've lost some). But there are other things wrong with me and I'm not sure if it's related to PCOS or something else. So I'm wondering if anyone else can relate to this. I have dry skin that will not go away no matter what I do. I drink water all day and lather up my skin with many different types of lotions all day. My feet have cracked skin. My legs are as dry as the sahara desert. And recently I got this small, round dry patch on my right nipple. I've had it for at least a week but I think it's finally getting better. I also frequently get dizzy spells. Have any of you had these symptoms? If so, have you been able to do anything or take anything to make them better?

When I have dizzy spells they usually come when I'm standing up from a sitting or lying position. I think it's because of a drop in blood pressure when you stand up, because the blood goes out of your head and you start to feel dizzy and like you're going to black out. If I stand up slowly I don't get as dizzy.

I used to be dizzy a lot too if I hadn't eaten and my blood sugar dropped. I'm insulin resistant and I try to eat regularly even if it's just a small snack. That seems to help too.

My doctor told my mom to put Crisco on her dry dry skin. Seriously. Right before bed get a paper towel and dip it in the little tub of solid Crisco and spread it on your legs. Cut the feet out of some tube socks or leg warmers and use them just to cover the Crisco for the night. They help hold in the moisture and keep your clothes/bed from getting dirty. It really helps me when I'm having dry patches.

hope this helps!

Default I know how you feel!

I definetly have the dizziness spells that you're talking about! Very frequently when I stand up from sitting or lying down, vision gets all cloudy and I can't see for a second. Sometimes I have to sit back down because I lose my balance.

I've been told that it could be from low blood sugar, or maybe from the medications I take: Metformin and Spiro. Do you take any meds?

Something that may be related is I think I just have poor circulation in general. Lately, I've been noticing that my arms and legs "fall asleep" really easily. Some mornings one of my arms will be TOTALLY asleep and I have no sensation in it for awhile- when I touch it with my other hand it feels like there's someone else in bed with me and I'm touching their arm- quite a freaky thing to wake up to! lol

Well, I'm not sure if this was any help, but yes, others do have these kind of symptoms. I'm not really sure if it's something we need to be concerned about? But ahyhow, you're definetly not alone!

Default Dizziness and dry skin

I had the dizziness and dry skin also. For me it was Anemia and I needed an iron infusion. It could also be Hypothyroid, which can be common down the line with PCOS. There is a thread on this site about it. Have you talked to your Doctor, you should get checked-soon

The other suggestion I've heard is using vaseline right after a shower. It's very oily, but if you do it right after a shower, it'll lock the moisture in from the shower. It works best if you shower at night and then cover the skin with some old soft clothes you are not attached to to go to bed (that way you aren't greasy all day).

Also, how hot is the shower you are taking? Really hot showers can dry out the skin. I don't remember why, but I do remember reading that somewhere.

I have very dry skin. If I use a good quality lotion like Curel or Aveeno (Aveeno's the best to me) for extremely dry skin it helps (DH had to talk me into getting the good stuff. I didn't want to pay the high price for the good stuff, but now I'm glad I did!). I keep my showers as short as possible. I've tried many different body washes and soaps. Caress is a very good body wash for dry skin and Dove is also. I stay away from perfumes in soaps. All of this combined helps, but I have to be vigilant and make sure to moisturize at least once a day and then if I feel my skin drying out I go ahead and put on some more.

I also have dizzy spells a lot. I notice it more during the changing of the seasons and when a lot of pollen is dropping. In the south something is always blooming. I attribute it allergies and sinus problems. Usually if I take allgergy or sinus medication the dizziness seems to go away.

Is PCOS causing this or not? I don't know. At this point I feel like nothing works right!!!

Hope this helps!

I discovered the cause of my dizziness to be coming from bad water retention during PMS. I'll hold a good 8 lbs of water, not very comfortable at all. I started progesterone supplementation and water retention is a side effect. When I get dizzy or bloated I take a diuretic to rid my body of some of the extra water and the dizziness goes away. Fortunately I only have the problem during PMS, it's at it's worst for about 2 days before my period starts.

My dry skin is on my breasts and legs. I've changed soaps to Dove unscented and I'm also using Aveeno lotion which is helping a great deal!

i don't have the dizzy spells (unless i've had a glass of wine ), but i do have the dry skin

- lisa i've also seen small round dry patches on my breasts (also the right!).

i try to use a moisturising soap bar and a thick cream - i really like body butters - i used to use the dove cream (and deodorants) but i got horrible, horrible painful skin "lumps" (forgot the proper name) that were like cysts under my arms so i switched deo's.

You all might want to research mitral valve prolapse. You are describing some of the symptoms. Basically, you're dehydrated, and drinking water doesn't help. Upping your intake of salt does help, because it will cause you to retain more of the water you drink. It's estimated that up to 10% of the population has this problem. You've got to wonder if it's because we've been preached at about how bad salt is for so long.
