Default How to approach this?

Hi,

I have an appointment with my OB/GYN on Thursday and would like to talk to him about PCOS. I have had irregular periods for my entire life and since the birth of my daughter 4 years ago, they have gotten longer and longer and heavier. I am overweight with high BP, my mother is diabetic and I have facial hair. So I do have some of the PCOS symptoms.

When I last spoke to my dr. about my heavy periods, he suggested endometrial ablasion and I was going to do that until I started doing some research and came across the PCOS info.

I know that the ablasion would simply be treating the symptoms and not the disorder so I would like to be assertive about finding a cause of my symptoms. Does anyone have any insights as to arguements ( if needed) that I can make when talking to my dr. about why I need to be tested? Also, is most PCOS treated with diet, exercise and medication or just diet & exercise when TTC is not concerned? I'm just trying to get all my ducks in a row before my appointment.

Thanks so much - this is a fantastic resource and you all look like a great group of ladies!

Sarah

Sarah - Check out the stickies in the forums. They're full of research studies. And, if you PM me your email address, I can send you some copies of research studies that found Met helped with PCOS. Not sure if you want to go that route, but the info might come in handy.

Take a list of PCOS symptoms with you.

The symptoms you have, plus the fact that your mom is diabetic should ring warning bells for the doctor! Take info with you. That way the doctor will know how informed you are and he will know he can't blow it off.

The best thing you can do is educate yourself - through articles, like vivcrayton suggested. The more you know, the better you can help your doctor to help you.

Good Luck!

Thanks so much for the information. I'm really frustrated because I've gathered a lot of PCOS info, psyched myself up, practiced my speech and today my appointment was cancelled for the second timethis week. I'll try again on Monday!Sarah
