Default How bad is it anyway??

I know that everyone is different, but I was just wondering how bad the diahrea can get? I was just diagnosed and started on 1000mg of Met yesterday and was wondering what to expect. My doc said that diahrea was one of the more common side affects but to just stick with it becuase it will get better.

Is it running to the bathroom becuase you're going to blow bad? Or is it more of just whenever you have to go to the bathroom you have the runs?

Sorry for the graphicness.

Stacy

For me it was definitely if I had to go, I better find a bathroom FAST! Some people don't experience any side effects at all so maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones.

Good luck.

For me it was both! LOL More than a few times I have grossed my hubby out. But your doctor is right, if you can stick with it, it does get better. Good luck!

Diarhea is my bowels usual state. While on Met. it actually cleared up a little. It was almost normal. But, after 1500mg, I would throw up or begin to feel nauseaed. So, everyone is different. Hopefully it won't bother you at all or at least barely. Good Luck!

I'm surprised they started you at 1000 dose.
It should have been 500 for at least 2 weeks.
Then up it weekly if you can handle it.

So if you feel your having alot of probs, cut down to 500 aday for a week or two then up your dose.

Good Luck,
Patty

Actually, I haven't even noticed any side affects yet, except that I'm not as hungry all the time anymore. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and hope that that's all it's going to be.

Thanks!

I just started on 500 mg every 3 days for two weeks, and then will gradually build up to 1500/day. I mistakenly took my first pill with dinner b/c it said to take it with food and that was the first meal since having it filled. Let me tell you - THAT WAS A MISTAKE!! I was up all night in the bathroom. I hope this tapers off as my body adjusts b/c I can't imagine living with that all that time. GOOD LICK!

Wink It gets better

For me it was find a toliet as soon as possible. I gradually built up to your dosage, so if you feel that its too bad try and reduce it.

It really does get better, although at first you wonder what is going on. I can say although I have been on it for a short while I have seen a difference already...keep with it.

Good luck

You know, I've taken 4 pills now and still don't really have any side affects. It sounds like everyone gets the symptoms after taking the 1st pill. Maybe it's not working or something.

It took several days before I felt any side effects but every woman is different so you may not experience any SEs. Just keep an eye on how you are feeling and how your symptoms are responding.

Smile I am sure that it is working

amr some women do not have side effects, but that doesn't mean it is not working, since taking mine (started April) my acne too is much better. I have stopped craving choclate too.

I am finding that it does get better, sometimes it is how you take it I can too relate to taking it with food BIG mistake.

Just look after yourself and how you are responding and hopefully you will not experience the s/effects. I will keep my fingers crossed for you

I am DEFINITELY going to keep my fingers crossed for you that you will have no side effects......BUT, I just wanted to let you know that when I started taking Met about 6 weeks ago, the first 3-4 days the only thing I noticed was the loss of appetite. Then, all heck broke loose around the end of the first week, and I now know my bathroom on an intimate basis...LOL For me, that only lasted about 2 weeks or so, though....now, it only comes back every once in a while. (Thank goodness!)

i was first prescribed 500mgs of metformin twice a day...i started taking it in the at lunch time and then again at bedtime. During my first two weeks, i felt that warm funny feeling, which clued me into getting to a bathroom, FAST! I learned to time my outings and made sure that i didnt go anywhere an hour or so after taking my pill.

I had other side effects, such as spiking of the blood pressure, fatigue in the morning, bloating and weight gain while taking metformin. So my doc cut me down to one 500mg pill a day...i still took it at lunch time...but i was still having stomach problems....soi then asked to be put on glucophage XR...the stomach problems have gone away...but i started to gain weight! so i put a post up on this board, and was given the great advice to switch the time i took the medicine...i started taking it after dinner. I have found that my bloating had gone down quite a bit, and my blood pressure is back at normal..

I think i may have spared myself the morning "runs" by not taking it in the evening at first. it was during my 5th week that i made the switch to the evening.

So far so good.

Default waiting until after weekend

Wow-I am glad I read these messages before I started taking my met. I just got a prescription today, am planning to go to the beach over the weekend. I think I will wait to start it when I get back so I don't spend the whole time in the hotel bathroom!

Well, I think the fun has begun. I woke up this morning with extreme nausea. It's finally starting to get better though.
