How to began the planning stages of this. I have thought about eventually adopting but Im not sure. I have read all these horror stories that scare the dickens out of me. First Im single, thats a strike against me. I have no plans to marry, mostly because my job (second strike) isnt appealing to most men. Im a fire fighter and though the law says they cant discriminate aginst me for that occupation, many agencies, I have heard, have rejected TWO parent families because one is a firefighter. Its not as dangerous of an occupation as one might think, more roofers and electritians die each year because of accidents than firefighters or police officers. I am also overweight, though no other health issues (pcos but its not that bad) that would threaten life or limb. I would like to begin to look into this, as I am not planing to adopt anytime in the next, say two years, but I am begining to look into the planning process and see what I will need to do to qualify and so forth. At this point, what do I need to be looking at and into. What types of roadblocks can I expect? Where can I research my options before I approch an agency? Like I said, Im not running off tommrow and looking at adopting a child, but I want to have all the facts in hand before I even began to make plans. I want to know where I stand, and where to look for the information that I need to began the planning process.
any suggestions as to where to research? |
