I have been on and off met for the past years. I started it on my own, not by prescription of a doctor, and it took time to built it to 1,500 mg a day. However, since I have been so long on it, I changed and started using apple cider vinegar instead of met when I am at home, and if I go out, I take 500 mg of met after meals.
In fact nobody adjusted the dose I need to take. How did your doctors determine the amount to take per day ?
Thank you !!

The LPN just bumped me up to 1500 in a weeks time starting at 500mg then moving up so that way I wouldn't have 'side effects'. I've been on 1500mg's for a year with no luck. I need to go back and get it bumped up or just go all alternative route. Thing is, I hate the LPN.

Thanks for your answer Dez ! well.... it has to be said that it seems nobody can exactly fix the met dose according to each particular case... I have read that "as soon as you see it working" you can stick with a dose, but seeing it work is a bit relative, specially when one has been on it for long.
I am not sure if my strategy works. I just get too sick on high doses of met. 1,000 is the best I can tolerate but I am not sure that works. Plus, many ladies quit the met after they are done TTCing.
I would really love to have a doctor to make tests then say : ok for you it is 1,000 met everyday ( that is your dose ) so I do not overdose and feel yucky all day long, or dose too low and it does not help !!
Anyone has figured out how to determine your dose ?

Does anyone know what is taken in consideration when determining a met dose? I started getting very very regular periods on met and lost some weight, could that be a sign I ovulated?
I think most of the time they do the glucose tolerance test to find out which is your right dose. Did you get it done? i think Dr. adjust the dosage according to the results.
I have been taking 500x 2 times a day for the last 5 years and it works fine for me. It was my initial dose. I barely have (or ever had) any side effects
yes...i had the glucose test!! Hmmmm..maybe thats why! I start 1000mg tomorrow! I just don't want to be sick...or running to the bathroom all day, especially at work!! **sigh** I guess i have to do what i got to do to have a baby!!! lol!!
