There really isn't any real way to diagnosis endo for sure without a lap surgery, and while there are hormonal treatments you can get for endo, most can cause more problems with your PCOS that just having the endo removed surgically.

Hello my Soulcysters sisters,
I was diagnosed with pcos at age 18, and last month my new ob/gyn told me I may have endo, well my question is..Is there any way to diagnose without a laparoscopy?
For the last few months I feel some discomfort when I pee and I mostly feel pain in my right ovary and a little in my left. The right one gives me more trouble I know this is the pcos. But when I told my doc I feel alot of pain in my reproductive system when i'm having my menstrual cycle while i'm on a bc, he said this shouldn't happen.
What are some other symptoms that I can know whether or not I have endo?
A lapersocopy is really the only way they can be sure, but you might want to go to a urogynecologist to make sure you don't have I.C (Interstitial Cystitis). It's basically a condition where the bladder becomes very irritated and causes pain in the pelvic area (sometimes like cramps), you can also have pain during urination similar to when you have a UTI (burning, irritated feeling) and when you have a flair up it can cause painful intercourse. Symptoms tend to worsen around A/F bc there's more doing on down there and all those organs are around each other. Scientists don't know the cause yet of I.C but they think it's the bladder's manifestation of a more general condition that causes inflamation in other organs and parts of the body.
There is no cure for it, but it's treatable in most cases. The treatment was pretty simple: try to avoid acidic foods, drink plenty of water, try to urinate frequently to not over-fill the bladder. If you're going to have an acidic meal, drink a small glass of water with a little baking soda in it to control the acid. If this doesn't help, there's a medication called Elmiron.
Thanks everyone for the replies. Samie that is such a good idea to chart down all the times i experience pain Thanks!! I guess i just need to be more assertive, i am a very big pushover and if the doc says he thinks i dont have it then i just shut down . I really really like my new doctor, but it would not be the first time i switched to someone who could treat me/ listen to me better.
I guess im just worried to push having the surgery and then find out i dont have it, put myself and my doctor through all that for nothing. dont get me wrong though of course i hope i dont have endo, i just would feel idk i guess stupid for pushing the surgery if my doctor wasnt 100% sure. My pain has gotten less this year and i am wondering if it is because i have been having less periods O_o when i was younger i would have one every 3 weeks and oh boy was i always in pain =(.
I go see my doc on Dec 22nd. I have not done the shot yet cause honestly i am in school right now and i dont need the stress of hot flashes and mood swings during midterms/ finals lol. Plus i am a little scared of doing it .
Blah sorry i talk (type) way to much sometimes lol . Thanks again everyone for your thoughts and opinoins!!
Rachel.

Rachel, its ok!
I did want to add, please please please do MUCH more research into this shot...you are soooo young in respect to your fertility health...
As far as your doctor being 100% sure... they can't be, not without going in. And something to consider, that if it isn't endometriosis, do you really want to be putting your body through all of that , AND still in pain?
But from your description of how you had periods so frequently when you were younger, and now that they aren't as frequent the pain isn't...that signals endo as well.
Before you decide to do that shot, get a second opinion, not saying you'd have to change doctors...and don't shut down...I know its hard, but YOU know your body more than anyone...you are its advocate, NOT your doctor.
If you'd like, I'll post some links, etc that you can read when you get a chance.

That would be great!! I really really appreciate your help. I agree with getting a second opinoin with the shot i was supposed to do it 2 cycles ago but i chickened out i mean i am only 20 its scary to think about going through a fake menopause. I think that i will push the lap because it does make sense that the more i have my periods the more pain i am in. I just want to find out what is going on with my body, very fraustrating!!Whenever you have the chance if you can post those links that would be awesome. TIA!! ::hugs::

I had a laparoscopy about 5 years ago and was told I had endo. For me it was severe pelvic pain, though I was told I shouldn't of had that much pain for the amount of endo found. After I healed from the cauterization thing they did my pelvic pain was gone. I guess I was just really sensitive about it.
Thinking about having a lap done this summer to confirm mine ( I wish there was another way) I have painful sex and very bloated abdomen for about 3 or 4 days after. Iam getting to the point that I have no choice than to get it done, since the hubby and I are thinking about having a baby.
My diagnoses took years and years for both endo and PCOS. from the start of my periods i always had really bad pains, horrible periods, massive clots, bleeding for weeks at a time and then not bleeding at all. They always told us that we would grow out of it. When i started having sex i noticed that the pain never went away and would sometimes last for a while after words. Started going to the doctor again and was still told that its normal and would straighten itself out. Two doctors even told me that i was having pain because i was having flashbacks of being abused as a child! That ticked me off so bad! how can you tell someone they are having flashbacks. and i clearly was not. i FINALLY found a doctor when i was 20 that sat back and listened to EVERYTHING. he immediately suggested Endo. he put me on BCP and told me at the end of the month to omit the white pills that make you have your period and that if that helps with the painful periods that he wont even do the surgery. i ended up not being able to go back and see him because i had to move here. Went to the doc in december of 08 and she did an ultrasound, saw, and diagnosed my PCOS. She also believed that i had endo and it was finally confirmed when i had my laprascopy in march for my ectopic. I still cant get over the doctors that told me it was all in my head. i had not even said anything about the abuse to them other than when they asked if i had ever been abused i told them when i was a child i was and that was that.

Thank you all so much for posting your stories, and thank you RaeRae for posting the question - I do hope you get answers soon.
I would just like to pose a question. If they suspect endo, but I would like to get a hysterectomy anyway will they mess with the lap test?
Thank you, thats why i asked everyone what they had to go through because I know there are more people like me who are not sure and might not want to make a choice like doing a lap. But hearing everyone's stories and inputs has made it that much easier for me to take charge and request the lap!! I appreciate everyones support more than you even know!! I hope everyone else finds the answers they are looking for too!!!!
Rachel.
