Question How do I finance an adoption?

So, what do you all suggest for financing an adoption? We still have plenty of school debt to pay off from attending private college. We haven't even begun the process yet, but will probably start in a year or two when we are sure we are ready. We want to be financially stable for a new baby. We've considered saving (or trying to save) as close to 1/2 the cost as we can ourselves. Is this wise? What other options are there? Please let me know. We would like to have 2 to 3 children and since we will have to adopt all of our children we want to plan accordingly. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Default hmmmm

Not sure if California or the US for that matter allows people to advertise privately letting people know you are interested in adopting. I've read on the internet of people putting up flyers and such posted at colleges and places like this that may have birthmothers wishing to put their child for adoption, this route I hear is much less expensive and called a direct domestic adoption. You still have to get counselling and a homestudy, but I'm from Canada and I only know how it works here. And I know that in Canada you can get a loan from the national bank of canada for international adoptions, maybe there is some bank similar in US if you were going the more expensive international way. Hope I was of some help

Default Thanks!

Hi. Thanks for the info. We actually just moved to Kansas, so I'm not sure what all is entailed to adopt in this state. We plan to try to adopt domestically and through our church is an adoption agency that only places infants. So we're thinking about trying to adopt through them. But I also work at a daycare and we almost had the opportunity to adopt a baby from an unexpected pregnancy from one of the part-time workers who is still in college. But she changed her mind and decided to keep her baby. So we're hoping we can afford the agency adoption in a couple of years. Thanks for the advice!

I think that is great that you are planning on saving for the costs. I think there is some information in the sticky about financing adoption as well.

I really dont want this to be takes as me being rude, and i apologize in advance if you do, but i just want to post some positive adoption language alternatives to the old language.

Such as..

Birth parent vs real parent
terminate parental rights vs give up
make an adoption plan vs give away
to parent vs to keep
parent vs adoptive parent
