DH and I have been discussing adopting another child through fostercare but still an infant or toddler not an older child. I keep checking the adoptohio website but most of the kids have an identified family, are older, or have been placed. I'm not sure how often they update the page but most of the last date home studies are to be submitted were for months ago! Anyone else know another route to go? Our home study expires in Jan 09 so I would like to get something started before it expires I do not have another $1300.00 to complete a home study right now and really would like DS to have a sibling.

Try the following website. I check it occasionally, especially when I get down and out about TTC. It makes me realize that if God doesn't have another biological child in mind for us that I can make a big difference in a child's life. However, a lot of them are older or are special needs. I think the best bet to get an infant to adopt through the state is to be a foster parent who adopts.
Thanks Christy~ I saw that site today and was looking at a 5 year old little boy but I think my mind is set on an infant or child no older than 3. DH and I were looking into doing foster/adopt but the agency we were going throuigh finally came clean to us and said they really only get older kids the first man I talked to from that agency said oh yeah it should not be a problem finally you a child that fits your criteria. Thank God the lady told me the truth or we would have been locked into that agency for a year! I think I will keep trying to find an agency that does foster care for infants and up. I spoke to the social worker this evening who did my original home study and she said I could go through the county and get it updated and it would not cost anything so that's what I think we are going to stick with.

Good luck adopting a small child from foster care or the web. We have tried for over 3 years. Adopt us kids has only had one baby without major issues in over two years, and I check every day. I know it does happen but it's rare. I am not trying to be negative in any way but in three years we are batting ZERO. If you can find a private situation it only costs about two grand for the legal fees, and that is what we are working on now.
It will be hard. B/c most of the time before the child hits a photolisting or website listing etc their current foster parents adopt the child. Your best bet is to become a foster to adopt parent in your area and request only infants.
when you adoption expires i think the fee is small to renew it you don't have to start all over you just have to have it updated.
also i would see about finding some local or fairly local social workers and maybe give them a call and see if your agency could send the a copy of your home study and maybe they have a child that fits what you are hoping.

We did foster care to adopt our daughter. She came to us at 7 months old and we adopted her on her 2 year birthday month. The birthparents rights were terminated when she was 16 months old and it was smooth sailing after that. You always have that fear that something could happen but in order to adopt in any situation you have to have Faith. I never doubted she would remain our child forever.
Also don't be afraid of drug babies. Our Hailey was born with 3 drugs in her system..meth, pot, and empetamines. She is perfectly healthy and bright and beautiful with no delays in any area. It's amazing how resilient children are.

We're foster/adopt parents in Ohio licensed through our county. We were licensed at the beginning of this year. I would say that to get that young of a child being foster adopt not just straight adopt would increase your chances greatly. We currently have a foster daughter who just turned 2 who's been with us for several months and there is court this month to TPR the parental rights. So it's likely we will be able to adopt her. She was our first placement. We're open up to age 6 and we still haven't had any non-foster matches from adoptohio or adoptuskids.org
Don't worry about homestudy expense if you go through the county. All of our expenses were reimbursed once we were licensed (background checks, cpr class fees etc) except for having to buy a crib and carseat we had no real expenses. Some counties might want you to be open to a slightly bigger age range for them to do the licensing. We're licensed to foster up to age 6. Another couple we went through training with is up to age 4 but I know they are encouraging them to go to age 6 as well.
I am an adoption specialist that works with kids in foster care. I am in the state of missouri. The adoptuskids is a great website, just remember the kids on the websites are hard to place kids, meaning they have behavioral problems, or medical conditions. There are more kids in care that are older, part of a sibling group, and AA. I wish you the best of luck in this process!
