How does a newbie actually gain reputation power? I'm still showing at zero. I've received lots of karma from other users (866 points), and have been spreading karma around as much as I can every 24 hours.
Is this something that will increase with time, earning points, higher posts, etc? Or do I need to keep passing around karma? It just seems a little silly to keep doing it right now without any power .

As a follow-up - I just did my 50th post, and suddenly my reputation power went from 0 to 13! Woo-hoo!
So I think it might stay at zero until you make at least 50 posts. At least that's what seemed to happen to me.

Sure! Go to the tabs at the top of your forum, and click on "User CP"
On the main page it takes you to, there will be three sections in the middle. The second one says "Latest Reputation Received" and then has a total number of points next to it - the total number you have.
The third window says "Latest Reputation Given" and it also has a number - that is your reputation power, or how many points you give another user when you give them karma. Mine was at zero forever, but now that I have 50+ posts it is moving up.
