My doc gave me an Rx for it (not during a consult, I called in and asked to go back on it after a couple years off). However, she has me taking 500 mg 3x day which I know is WAY too much to start on.
How did people successfully start met so that the side effects were easier? What dosage and frequency, etc.?
Thanks!

welcome to sc i take 500 met after my lunch, and 500 after my evening meal. I can manage met as long as i try to avoid greasy/fatty/sugar foods - and always eat with the met
eva
Im on 1500 mg (500 mg 3 times a day) too. I started off with just 500 mg for a week, then upped it to 1000 mg and the third week started taking the whole 1500 mg.
I agree with Eva, take the met with your food. Sometimes when we go out for dinner I take it later when I come home and always feel sick after that. So I just carry it with me now.

I'd start out at 500 mg, and I'd take it with your evening meal, so at least if you have side effects, you'll be at home! I always take mine with a glass of milk, and that cuts back on the side effects.
After a week--or whenever you feel comfortable--I'd add your second 500 mg tablet, and then the third.

Hello,
When i started on met i took 500mg after my dinner, right before bed...did this for about a week and there were little to no side effect so i bumped it up to 500mg in the morning with breakfast and 500mg at night before bed. Ive been very lucky with met and have had very minimal side effects. within 2 weeks i was able to jump up to 2000mg. I take 500mg in the morning, 500 in the afternoon and 1000 at ngiht before bed and its been working out wonderfully. Just have to watch what you eat sometimes and ALWAYS take it with food. The only thing that i have found to really upset my stomach is rice..rice absolutly kills me!
Good luck with the met!!! Hope you have the same luck with it that ive had! :-)

Well too bad I did not figure this out last week. The doc never said anything about doing a step up on thsi medication. I was perscribed 500mg 3x a day. I started off with that right away. Not only that but I started my 10 cycle of Provera at the same time which alwasy makes me sick... Between the provera and met I was feeling like I was dying for a while.
I have been sick for the last week from it. But today I am starting to feel a lot better. Still naseaus and tired but at least the intervals of GI problems are gone.
